Re: Poll on Boardies Covid-19 Impact

I was moderately ill with cough, aches, and general malaise in early March (notably, no fever). It honestly felt like I had mono again, though without the sore throat. I traveled a lot for work and had been on 14 flights in January and February, all domestic. My SO had severe symptoms appear a few d...

Re: RIP India Cooper

I met India in 2019 while we both moderated the Regional Finals for the National History Bee. She and I bonded over the lack of good coffee provided by the school  . I was hoping to see her again this year, but she didn't attend (for now-obvious reasons). My condolences to her family and friends.

Re: 2020 Current Events Discussion Thread

In a shocking new entry into the "dumb celebrity baby name" contest, entrepreneur Elon Musk and his partner, the musician Grimes (aka Claire Boucher), have named their baby boy "X Æ A-12". In the subreddit /r/namenerds, there's some good conversation about how this could be pronounced. In Californi...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020

42 for real yesterday and 38 today playing from the video.

Both are better than my usual mid-30s, so either I'm actually doing better or the test is slightly easier.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), January 28, 2020

Fairly certain I got 42, which is my best performance in recent memory! A few tip-of-my-fingers (Valhalla, Dodgers) and one I wrote read too fast (Orion for Sagittarius), but otherwise felt pretty strong. One that I kicked myself for missing was Jaffa, knowing that from somewhere in the recesses of ...

Re: Tuesday, January 7, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I really enjoyed Karen's run and am excited to see her in a future ToC.

Unfortunately, my FJ! was preempted by NBC's special coverage of the Iranian missile strikes, so I was unable to actually see her finish. Luckily, ABC didn't interrupt the GOAT Tourney!

Re: Wednesday, September 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My entry point to this FJ! was the 2018 current-ish events angle, not Mark Twain. I didn't event know Mark Twain had visited Hawaii.

Not sure if I could've spelled Kilauea correctly in the 30 seconds; I may have resorted to phonetic spelling...

Re: J! in the Media

NPR's All Things Considered ran a piece on James yesterday evening from a new perspective: James' brother's wife's brother, Kenny Malone (follow that?). Since they share four nieces and nephews, the story focused on "favorite uncle" status more than James' Jeopardy dominance. Transcript and a link t...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), April 10, 2019

I was stuck on a last-minute flight during the Eastern test, which is my region. I really wish I had been able to take that one because I choked big time on this test. I normally float around the high-30s and I definitely didn't crack 35 this time. Seemed much more difficult than past years.

Re: Sony Reportedly Searching For Alex's Replacement

What about someone from NPR such as Ari Shapiro or Audie Cornish? They both have excellent voices that I would gladly listen to for 61 clues and check these imaginary "boxes" that are being thrown around. Also, All Things Considered isn't as polarizing as some cable news channels, so Jeopardy wouldn...

Re: Sony Reportedly Searching For Alex's Replacement

LeVar would be interesting. He's a good trivia player as well, having won on both J! and The Weakest Link. I'm down with that. Yeah, a host who's 62 would be a great way to attract a younger viewing demographic. Many younger people (myself included--late 20s) remember LeVar Burton primarily from Re...

Re: Show tickets question

I saw the tickets for Saturday and almost grabbed them, but I wanted to confirm flights first. With spring break and short notice, flights were very expensive, but I decided it's worth the cost. Less than 6 hours later and all the J! tickets were gone. If anyone sees them pop back up for Saturday, p...

Millionaire was very specific about wearing no shade of blue, because players who wear blue end up getting lost in the set. So that eliminated 90% of my wardrobe options "No blue" must have been a newly added rule this past year because I wore blue for S15. Not that I was able to wear my option 2 o...
