Re: National Geographic GeoBee is finished
I made the top 10 at my state's Bee from 2003-2006. Best I ever did was runner up, but my brother won state the year I aged out. I was in the audience to see Caitlin Snaring become the second, and now definitively last, girl to win the competition. I second almost everything in Jurimetric’s post abo...

Re: Alex Trebek Announces Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer
I want to meet and talk to Alex before it's too late because he is one of the few people that I idolize. However, I feel that trying to write a letter to him or find a way to contact him personally would jettison my chances of being a contestant. Should I act as if I'm going to be one of the lucky ...

Re: James wouldn't have lost pre-James
It's a testament to James that the fundamental transformation of the game he brought about ultimately helped do him in. That's what the great ones do in nearly any competition. They raise the level of play of everyone around them and then fall victim to the increased competition if they slip up jus...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
The idea that I am on some sort of threadjacking rampage is pretty false. I've made 11 posts TOTAL on jboard since the thing about him being on went up. This was my first negative post about him in a month. There have now been more posts by you complaining about my posts than anything I posted, and...

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]
I'm working my way through a backlog of recorded shows, but I just got caught up. I haven't been reading this thread, so apologies if this has already been discussed. Have the mid level questions suddenly gotten much harder in the past few episodes, or it it just me? On the questions from several we...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
I think the usefulness of this thread has been pretty well destroyed. If the mods are okay with discussions of Holzhauer's past behavior, they should at least make it a separate dedicated thread. As a mod, I would prefer it to be confined to PM's or -- preferably -- some other off-board medium. I a...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
If you'll go back, you can see I've never questioned the cheating accusations. I've questioned their direct link to sociopathy, but not the fact that the accusations were asshole moves in and of themselves. I think it is fair game to lambast him for the accusations, but that has already been done. W...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
In Lampy's defense, how could he see it any other way? James accused him of cheating and he's stating that. The fact that perhaps otherwise James has seemed like a perfectly fine person isn't going to change that. Well, he could see it as someone upset at losing on a game show and taking out his fr...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
Not sure if trolling or serious. In the event that it is the latter, he was a challenger on Season 1 of 500 Questions. He was unable to unseat the incumbent, who was the most successful contestant of the season.

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
Who exactly am I "bullying" and how? Well, James for one. Not to mention BRD-98 upthread. Either James is an unapologetic asshole sociopathic bully, and you have taken it upon youself to warn the world, or he was a jerk to you four years ago, and you've made it your mission to totally des...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?
The worst thing about the article is the insinuation that assholes can't love their families so James might not be an asshole. Trump loves his family too. Most exploitative, bullying sociopaths do. I've seen the thread where he anonymously accused you of cheating at LL, and I saw where he said you ...

Re: Tuesday, April 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
However, he left a lot of money on the table over the years, I suspect probably over a million dollars. Ken left $119,978 on the table over 74 games. (An average of $1,621 a show.) He probably left substantially more on the table by underbetting on DDs, a higher percentage proposition than FJ. Not ...

I bit the dust on DD3. I normally fare very well in both Bible categories and wordplay categories, but while I've heard the phrase "feet of clay" several times, it's not one with which I'm deeply familiar.

Re: The connection between a quiz bowl background and J! success
A matter of correlation not equaling causation imo. Are the type of people who do well on J! also the type of people who do QB? Absolutely. But success in one is not guaranteed success in the other. I had a poor approximation of a kind of quiz bowl in high school, but my success on J! clues comes fr...

Re: Thursday, April 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I don't have a dog in this fight (or whatever it is) and I don't know anyone involved, and I don't have any firsthand information whatsoever. But back in 2014 when I saw James on The Chase I did quite a bit of googling to figure out who he was, and I didn't find him in J-archive, so I had a feeling ...

Re: Sony Reportedly Searching For Alex's Replacement
I think Anderson Cooper would be a good choice. He has a news background, so that gives him an appearance of being intellectual. Journos/pundits on Celebrity J! consistently show that their main job is to be empty talking heads in front of a camera without much in the way of real "on the spot&...

Re: Sony Reportedly Searching For Alex's Replacement
I have seen many threads on this subject over the years, and I don't think I have ever seen anyone suggest a promotion for one of the Clue Crew. All three obviously know how to read clues competently. Also, is it unthinkable for the show promote from within, with someone who reads clues during the ...

Pour one out for contestant Alex. He did better than I expected given the hype surrounding the challenger even before game one. I was on the wrong side of a game like this one. It was not fun.
