Re: LL BWA Entries

Way back on MD3, I kinda liked my response as a BWA candidate: Q4. AMER HIST - When the resolution that eventually became the U.S. Constitution's 19th Amendment (prohibiting citizens from being denied voting rights on the basis of sex) was brought before the House of Representatives in 1919, there w...

Re: LL BWA Entries

Voting is open for Best BWA. I didn't bother voting since I didn't find any of them to be remotely funny. The late offering of Purple Drank was mildly amusing. I'll confess to having not understood that one at all. It helps to be Memphis adjacent. I'd like to thank Oscar winners Three 6 Mafia for k...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

My answer for the M.F.K. Fisher question was "travel" because I had read her Two Towns in Provence . I wasn't aware that she was best known for food writing; and, in fact, an MFK Fisher Award for Excellence in Culinary Writing is given out every even-numbered year. You learn something every day. He...

Re: Monday, November 6, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Monday: Buzzy and Pranjal duel into five digits. Pranjal aims for $20k but Buzzy goes all-in, taking the win but with Pranjal easily clinching a wildcard. Good evening, I'm Nostradamus. I was going to basically message that to you earlier, but didn’t want to spoiler the game for you.

Re: How does one study for Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

So, I just did the WWTBAM auditions in Nashville on Friday, and made it through to the contestant pool (my J! airdate was Nov 2016, so I'll have some time to sit and stew on it for a while, if they call me in at all). The WWTBAM rules state you won't get a call for the upcoming season as you are in...

Re: LL BWA Entries

For LL73 MD14 Q4: FOOD/DRINK - Among the six standard meat/tofu items on the menu at the Chipotle Mexican Grill chain, the slow-cooked, seasoned shredded beef option is listed as what term? My response: "Beef! It's What's For Dinner! Now, with almost no E. coli!" Interestingly enough, I think I live...

Re: Thursday, June 1, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Very good, exceedingly tough FJ (at least for me). The topic is admittedly one where I have a HUGE blind spot in my knowledge banks. Would have never pulled Brazzaville or made the connection to the explorer, who I had likewise never encountered. Very well played game by all competitors. Good knowle...

Re: Thursday, May 25, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Also, I got it from the 'blacksmith's tools' bit, but WTF was that hammer and tongs clue talking about? It hurt me that no one got this one during the game, because it's one of my personal favorite phrases. I use it in my law practice almost every day when talking to clients about how vigorously we...

Re: Wednesday, May 24, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Strange to see a FJ! round with all three wagers 3000 on the nose. All three were crimes of varying degrees. Can't really fault Mackenzie for rounding 2801 up to 3000. But the other two were simply bad. According to OntarioQuizzer, with games in J-archive, the 3 way wager in this one is a first of ...

Re: Learned League 73 - Official Thread

For the ancient general I put Scipio Africanus. Lost 7(4)-6(4). Exceedingly timely podcast listening made that one particularly easy for me, as I had listened to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History show "Punic Nightmares" on a road work trip on Thursday before the Friday question came out. It's hard to t...

Re: Monday, May 22, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

1) A very lively, peppy pace to a game to start a fresh week after the Teachers completed their work... 2) Excluding the Bold & Beautiful video clue category. Ugh. I really, really hate those categories. They're really just cheeseball nonsense that makes it hard to see all of the clues. Add in a pi...

Re: Jeopardy alum on TPIR?

Does getting on screen without getting to play count? (Still in my post-J! game show blackout), but the wife and I went to a taping of TPIR back in October. Exceedingly long day. Probably fun enough to give it another go in the future, but only just.

Re: TD 343 - Ragbag - Q12 Results

The only regret I have is dropping the fabrics question. The only complaint I have (not a serious one) is that I specifically passed on Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever because it was tick-borne, not insect borne. That might've moved me into a T-5 instead of T-6, but probably not, because I bet a number...

Re: Thursday, May 18, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Definitely not taking away from Mary or David (who are both exceedingly good players), but Nan is a ferociously good player, and I love everything about her DD wagers and her FJ wager. She's clearly playing to win. She has two good opponents, but I think she believes she's the best player in the Tou...
