Re: FJs for the 3/1/21 week

If you were in high school in 1981 as I was, there was no way you could not listen to 'Don't Stop Believin'" I'm kind of surprised (as of now) only 40% claim to have listened to that song back then. OK, if you weren't born yet that's one thing, otherwise not sure how you could have avoided it. I bo...

Re: PRESIDENTIAL BIRTHPLACES 3/2/21 J! Round

I live just a few miles from the last guy's library and birthplace. Any one who lived through his Presidency likely thinks this one is overvalued. Who can forget the Western White House? Remembering the the Western White House might throw one off, or ar least slow one down. It was in San Clemente, ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

For 212 pages we've been beating the same dead horses: ... Whether you, TPH, know something is not an indicator of how obscure or difficult it is by Jeopardy standards. ... In the long, proud(?) history of this topic, I wonder how often posts like this appear. At regular intervals, or maybe somethi...

Re: Tuesday, February 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS) by Archivists

Sam found it and lost 2000 while a solve would have been enough to cinch the match. (Only because the last two $2Ks went TS) FJ was an instaget. "Oscars" + "sequel" pretty much leads to only The Godfather or Lord of the Rings , and I think Jackson's Oscars only came from the third entry. Yep. He wa...

Re: Monday, February 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

You could just see David deflate after the DD miss. How heartbreaking that had to be. I felt sorry for him...but that was a HUGE wager in a category that wasn't just knowledge-based. it should be an easy grab as it was picking out an animal in the text. 10k too much. 5k was a reasonable one, IMO .....

How many people got Samuel Barber? *raises hand* Same. Adagio for Strings is a concert standard, and its use in the soundtrack to the movie Platoon seemed to have put in more in the public eye. We often have our TV tuned to Comcast/Xfinity music channels for background noise, and its in regular rot...

1. No one says you HAVE to "blindly guess" London. YOU are the one suggesting "blindly guessing" is involved. The canonical way to answer the question would be to be aware that the first World's Fair was in London in 1851. This is not a piece of knowledge that is secretly guarded by dragons, it is ...

Re: Monday, February 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I seem to be the only one whose 50/50/90 led to London based on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Mental coin toss, but I didn't remember the second murder in C&P, and knew Mr. Hyde attacked at least two people. Turned out Stevenson was 20 years too late, and Hyde's only killing was of a man. Gotta get some...

Country crossover star Morgan Wallen (from Tennessee, mullet guy) is also a name to know if you don’t already - latest album is called Dangerous; "7 summers" and "More Than My Hometown" are his latest singles. ... Pardon me for this mini-rant. We see on the board from time to time questions if math is still being taught in schools when we see some baffling wagering. My observations over the last year is that people do not learn how to use common sense when dealing with risk. (Full disclosure: I learned formal...

Ben's interview story brought to mind some research I had done before a European trip a few years back. One commentator called the Czech diet a cardiologist's nightmare. Two favored items were fried cheese and fried cheese on a stick.
I did order the fried cheese sans stick just once for lunch.

Lefty guitarist from Seattle is a TS at $200?
I said Jimi, but did so hesitantly because I thought they were looking for a group due to the category. That may have thrown the contestants off as well.
I gotta say I was spoiled as to the nature of the category by J!6, but who else but Jimi?

I'll take the reciprocal. Socrates was the only "ancient" who came quickly to mind as having been famously tried and sentenced, but I only had about 5% confidence.

None of the words in the clue mean anything to me. Easter Island is off South America, and "Sutton Hoo" and "Bloomsbury" could be literally anywhere. In fact, "Sutton Hoo" sounds more Asian to me than anything else. The Boomsbury District also gave its name to the literary Bloomsbury Group, whose m...
