Re: Wednesday, April 19, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Instaget FJ. "Clayton Act" + "plugged gaps" <> Sherman Anti-Trust. Made up for a game where I had a number of 50/50's go against me (Tina Fey for Amy Poehler; Zimbabwe for Zambia; flounder for halibut). Funnily enough, for the one clue with two answers I only thought of one (add ...

Re: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I knew FJ about halfway through the music, but I could pull the word 'periscope' in time. I wrote down "peerage" on my paper, but I knew that wasn't the right word. Second game in a row where there was a clue for which I knew the answer but didn't actually know the answer.

Re: Monday, April 17, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Do you think they would have accepted just "Truman" instead of "Margaret Truman"? The contestant got it wrong by using the first name Bess, but I'm wondering if someone at that point could still have gotten it by just the last name. I actually thought they would, given AT's paus...

Re: FJs for the 4/10/17 week
     :( :( :( My best week on FJ's in a while. Wednesday's would've been a $0 bet no matter what position I were in since I know next to nothing about scary movies. I had no guess on the Vonnegut clue. The only book of his I could think of at the time was S...

I would have gotten the clue about Bismarck if I'd ever heard "Chancellor" referred to as a "prefix" before...And I still don't know what the Royal Opera House had to do with that category... :?: http://www.theartsdesk.com/opera/whats-your-title-royal-opera-house (I didn't under...

Re: Friday, April 14, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Got FJ! about 15 seconds in. The 'milk' angle didn't yield much at first, but I started thinking about where rich people like stashing their money (Cayman Islands, etc.) and then Switzerland fell into place. Israel didn't cross my mind at all so I was confused when Alex said there was a trap, but it...

Re: Thursday, April 13, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
My brain went to the olive branch/dove first before switching to the red cross about 10 seconds into the FJ music. They must have been generous on the pronunciation of Ghirardelli because the contestant didn't pronounce the r in it. And I thought I was the one who had blown it by pronouncing the r. ...

Post Your button-mashing is fine and exactly what you should be doing, but I imagine it would have been slightly faster if you had rested it against the table. I think we've discussed before but would that have been legal? Didn't hear anything on it in orientation, and contestant coordinators didn'...

Re: Tuesday, April 11, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
DJ! was a train wreck for me today, but at least I got FJ, putting me at 2/2 for the week. Pays to have gone to the East Coast for college and driven up and down I-95 a bunch. That said, I had to go the [Edison, NJ + WW from NJ + Lombardi sounds like it could be a NJ name] route to get to the answer...

Re: Monday, April 10, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I initially jumped to Hobbes on FJ, but I was pretty sure he wasn't American. The thought process from there was Leviathan > whale > Moby-Dick > Melville. The middle clue in NBA was a case of knowing too much for me...I thought they were asking for their college teams (KAT went to Kentucky and Wiggi...

Re: Thursday, March 30, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Should I know that Idaho has lots of Mormons? I went with coin flipping Illinois/Indiana since I figured it made sense for a Bible Belt state. Mormons are mostly found in the West. Think Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and, yes, Idaho. The Mormons were violently evicted from Illinois. Nauvoo in a thousand y...

Couldn't pull the FJ! word in time. Went with 'sayonara' just to have something, but I knew it was wrong. I also ran flags, though the hardly required an expert knowledge as one had nothing to do with flags and the other required knowing what Israel's flag looks like. [...] I went 4/5 in my birth ye...

Couldn't make it around to Mexico in time on FJ. Went with Heineken, hoping "Heine" was 20 in Dutch, but I knew what they were going for as soon as Alex asked about 20 in Roman numerals. Oh well. What was the 'JACK' reference in the Paul Bunyan clue? I didn't think I saw 'JACK' ment...

The cadence of her voice irked me. Also, that she phrased her clue requests as "I'll take [CATEGORY] for [$$], please" with little to no variation got old real fast.IronNeck wrote:Out of curiosity, why?theamazingchong wrote: I got pretty annoyed with her about halfway through the J! round, though,

Re: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Instaget FJ for the second day in a row. I picked up a copy of Steven Ferrill's book after getting The Call, having seen goatman's many posts recommending that book to prospective contestants--ran MYTHTAKE and got FJ today because of it, so I hope it continues to pay dividends. Lolita's buzzer skill...

"Nunnery" was my only miss in the rightmost column tonight, so that was on my mind going into FJ; 'twas just a hop, skip, and jump to get to Vatican City. I guess what goes around comes around.

Went with A.A. Milne--didn't realize Milne was male until I looked him up after the reveal. That said, I don't think I would've gone for Potter had I thought of her; I didn't realize she was that recent an author.

I'm wondering how many Jboarders got the Jeff City clue. I'm native Missourian or I'd never known it. This has to be a big YEKIOYD, since just the name of our state capital is a decent bar trivia bet in the first place. goatman very smart! Knew Benton > MO > Jefferson City, but I probably couldn't ...

Re: Wednesday, February 22, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
"Tailor" meant nothing to me, and I interpreted "rail-splitter" to refer to the Transcontinental Railroad; knowing it was completed in 1869, I dropped back to the Presidential election immediately preceding it. While I was only off by one cycle, wrong nonetheless; in retrospect,...
