Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 3 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

Olympia was a WAG, but I couldn't see 22 cities outranking the capitals of ND, MT or ID. I need to look at a map - I didn't give up on the Northeast but likewise knew it couldn't be Portland, and wasn't sure about placement of Montpelier or Manchester(?) relative to Portland. And, 22 cities in Wash...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 3 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

Singer is major negbait for the 6-pointer in "Tributes". He didn't die until 1875. Howe died in 1867. But since the correct answer hinges on people knowing those dates, this is much too hard for a 6-point question. I think you ought to consider a replacement question. (Although, since I got it righ...

Re: This just in! New season of Millionaire (2018) seeks contestants

I just caught up 3 pages of this thread. Congrats and luck/retroluck to all the boardies. I hope your broadcast schedule is publicized in our game threads or we get a regular thread to follow. This process seems way more impulsive and chaotic than the byzantine Jeopardy ordeal. What a roller coaster!

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 3 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

I don't know. While I did remember her name, it took me a few seconds more than the snap responses for the other three artists I got. I'd have probably just switched the 12 and 15. But such is the pitfall when it comes to assigning point values, I would assume. It's difficult to discern ahead of ti...

Re: TD 391 - Game Time

For the Scattegories bonus....am I supposed to name as many teams starting with the same letter, or just 12 different starting letters? i.e. if you had asked for NHL teams, would I do: Blackhawks, Blues, Blue Jackets, Brontosaurus or would I do Avalanche, Blues, Flames, Whalers, Jets, etc Up to 12 ...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 3 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

Ah, I butchered the Retronym category, some times giving the old word instead of the new word, and some times giving the new thing that triggered the retronym. Should've taken my time and thought it through better. +1 +1 - I decided to CLAM all but the classic coke answer. Very retro-clever categor...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 2 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

Cryptic crosswords are kind of their own thing with their own rules. Within the universe of cryptic crosswords, I aimed for 85 mph fastballs down the middle, since I don't consider myself to be good at them. Mainly, I was hoping to follow the rules successfully and write clues I thought I could sol...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 2 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

I thought the Friday theme was cleverly clued. You could take obvious guesses at the first three (which I did), and then you need to know something pop cultural, then something category specific. We all learned something we didn't know (and may not care about ;)). I failed to connect to the theme of...

Technically the 15-pointer has two correct answers - "Sally Forth" and "Judge Parker".
I was happy to see this clue, but it is definitely YEKIOYD. It's not updated daily, but Medium-Large.com is always worth the journey. Such talent some people have :)

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--Round 2 Instant Replay (SPOILERS)

Bah! I was coin flipping between Ben Franklin and George Washington for the 2-pointer, completely overlooking the fact that the question wasn't limited to American postage stamps. Same. Looks like we are not the only two either. Yeah. I thought it was a beautiful clue that could be TOM'd out as Ben...
