Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Would anyone be willing to send me a referral for the Learned League? I promise not to cheat! I've sent you a PM, but it is still in my outbox, which I think just means you haven't logged in. But just in case it's my fecklessness, I'm threading here, which should be enough feck to get the job done....

I just upgraded my membership. Please save a slot for me. I am a low-C leaguer.

Thank you!
You are in! I sent a welcome PM, but wasn't sure if the new member was you until I saw the flag!

Anybody wants in, we are at six players right now, and there are only 20 slots left .

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Olympic group 71 is tough. Through 3 days, 4 players with 15 or more TCA and a poor guy who is 0-3 with 14 TCA and 17 CAA. I'm in first with 15 but should really be 17 as I sped through questions on day 2 and only put fosbury and 1918 instead of 1916 without thinking. First place for now. Also had ...

Private Rundle option for LL86 C/D/E players

I hope this is OK to post ahead of the "official LL86 thread", whenever it is scheduled to emerge. I'm not consistently checking in due to summer activities and the J! hiatus, etc.. I have created a private rundle to augment the JBoardie rundle that is run by seaborgium (I think?) and is populated b...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Giving the MCU ML a whirl. How do you remember Stan Lee's barber cameo...but not the -Tesseract-?! It's a small comfort that my scoring actually did match up, more or less, with the overall correct % per clue at least. More comforting was beering it. I thought about entering this one, but aft...

ETA: this should have appended morbeedo's post about his 1DS on Doomed Voyages.

well done maestro! I especially enjoyed the pithy blurb
Spoiler
They should have stayed home.
I hope to do better than my 20 point Alice in Wonderland performance :!:

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Also congrats to the 12FootBoy for being the 77th unluckiest Llama in Season 85! I only got 77th? Is this a real thing? I noticed how my Correct Answers Allowed (this should be "against" as noted earlier) was an outlier in my lowly D rundle. I even did the math and it was about 2.5 standard deviati...

Re: A Math Question

I really want to thank everyone for jumping in with the math. My initial thought was either 41% or 59% by doing the 80*80*80*80 thing...but couldn't figure out which was the number I was looking for (we want to see zero roosters). So far, it's looking like all hens...but time will tell. I hate to b...

So, from a standard question for pre-nuptial counseling:

Q: Where do you see yourselves in five years?
A: Just ten years from tying the knot .

Congrats!

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

from the depths of a D rundle:

15-15-17-9

With only 2 wins, the W/L is irrelevant. I get thumped on good days and bad days :). The players get their A game up against me. My CAA leads the rundle with 78, vs the next highest of 70 and an average of 62.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I was judged to be correct with “silica.” Science isn’t my strongest area but I was able to see si-al & went from there. I’m in 4th place in my rundle. I hope it’s a ton of geography next week! Silica is a lot better derivative answer than silicone. Geologically speaking, the heavy hitters are magn...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Was anybody else distracted by this: This "Rebellion" is known by what alliterative name, which it was given ... I wanted to answer Rum Rebellion, but since "Rebellion" was in the clue, I answered Rum Revolution (and got credit for a correct answer). I assume just "Rum" would have sufficed. Is this ...

Re: Friday, June 12, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was hoping to see a bombshell announcement that Alex has decided to make this episode his final show. I haven't kept up with related threads here or health updates, but why must he burn his bridges from both ends ( show related, but not very pithy quip ;) ). I know lots of boardies want AT to go f...

and Tuesday's Jeopardy!, which I didn't get to until Friday evening because I'm currently working again, dropped exactly the same information about the Musee D'Orsay as Thorsten did. Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Bad loss yesterday 2(3) - 3(3) when I didn't take enough time to remember that pate does not equal foie gras. I grew up in a french canadian household and the words foie gras were never spoken, only pate, so I consider them interchangeable. Would've been a nice 2 points for the win... Yes, I feed m...

How did 80+% get cheesesteak? Northeast regional invented sandwich in close proximity to New Jersey. Cheesesteak was either going to be right or the MCWA. Re: Friday, May 29, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Felt stupid once reminded that there were TWO Bushes with a Texas connection. "Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." I was misled by the category - isn't there likely a museum for every president? I went with California for the Reagan and Nixon libraries plus...
