Re: Wednesday, October 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Regarding the golf category, the grip shown on the $600 clue is referred to in golf parlance as a ten finger grip. Since that info was basically given in the clue, it was obvious that the desired answer was the term used by non-golfers, the baseball grip. The $1000 clue was pretty much screwed up. ...

LL87 deadline is October 28 - JboardLite rundle is open

This thread is just here as a PSA until the official LL87 thread shows up. The deadline for registration and to join private rundles is just 7 days away. If you want to join a private rundle you will need the premier membership level ($50) or higher. If you need to upgrade, it theoretically could ta...

Re: FJs for the 10/12/20 week

 :(  :( :( :( NHOI. Unless you mean the creature from the Addam's family. Any chance of pulling Appalachian Spring was blown up by the Opera descriptor. I've been off the grid and only caught two shows this week, so no flattening of the curve for Opus' polls fro...

Re: Tuesday, September 29, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The fact that only one Great Lake is not named for a Native American word is an interesting piece of trivia that has somehow eluded this Great-Lake-shore dweller for 40 years. +1, except for being 300 miles from the nearest Great Lake. This little nugget is pretty cool. I would have guessed Huron w...

Re: FJs for the 9/21/20 week

:( :( :( Leave it to me to claim unfamiliarity on Monday which is currently polling over 90%, *and* to be the only person who didn't get Wednesday right. I think this the first time since 2/28/13 that I've been the only person keeping a clue from going 100%. Now there's 3 of us f...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

As one of the smiths, I am obliged to note that registration has opened for the 1960s Music ML. Hopefully people will be challenged and enjoy. I hope this as well! (Looks like Vermonter might be one of the main smiths?) Yes, I am one of the head honchos. Currently we're in the midst of implementing...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Finished out my rookie season in 10th, which is good enough for a D promotion in a very small rundle (18 total). I look forward to joining twelvefootboy's C/D/E private rundle next season! We had a lot of action among our humble six person rundle (ETA - 13 lead changes!), and we look forward to nex...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Mankiller here. I did not remember she was Cherokee--and for some reason thought she had a sister also involved in tribal politics. I thought I had a surprise get with Mankiller, who I know because the tribal politics are of regional interest here. The surprise was learning this was a Classical Mus...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I posted this on the LL board, but am I supposed to know what sodium carbonate is? I mean, I can do the chemistry but washing soda means absolutely nothing to me. Looking it up after the fact, I guess they made glass out of it? I spent so much time wondering if I should put sodium bicarbonate, bica...

Re: Tuesday, September 15, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

If they pronounce them differently, how? Do they say "merry" like "mrry", Cleveland Brown style? Because Berry Gordy has never been called Brry Gordy, that I can find. Late to the party, but I pronounce berry (and merry) with the vowel of "bet" or "pen", barry (or marry) with the vowel of "bat" or ...

Re: Reretaken Down

I got Pantheon right away. Something is weird with the sound mix. The music was drowning out Alex's words. The Statue of Liberty has nothing to do with immigration. It was a gift to the United States from France on the occasion of our hundredth anniversary. Frankie's story was ridiculously boring. ...

Re: Monday, September 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Nice to see that I was wrong, or at least overly pessimistic about the return of the show :D . Alex looks better than I expected, but I know they can hide anything with makeup and wardrobe. The timing of our local station has changed and my DVR picked it up in progress with Alex finishing the openin...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Q3: founded and financed (eliminates Gingrich, he would have stolen) Bolding financed would've worked too, plus that's the word that swayed it more towards Perot for me. Thanks for the astute reading - I erred in my post and meant to embolden the finance word (fixed now). That is what tipped me to ...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I had read a couple weeks ago about Gingrich being in some scandal related to some history class he taught so I went with him even though I felt Perot was the better answer. Didn’t matter as that was my zero point question and had a tie even if I get it right. I started with Gingrich and then remem...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Who else didn't notice that the question was asking for the nickname, and answered buckminsterfullerene instead of buckyballs? It cost me a 9(6) tie. *Raises Hand* I actually wasn't positive that the C60 molecule was the buckyball structure and answered buckyball/fullerenes figuring enough of his n...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Johnson was a bit of negbait, but I knew the Bird/Magic NCAA Final was in 79 so ruled them out. Then I remembered 97 when Karl Malone won the MVP but Jordan destroyed him and the Jazz in the NBA Championship. I hadn't realized Moses won MVP in 82 and 83 when Bird, Magic, Kareem, Isiah, and Dr J wer...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Can not believe I typed camshaft instead of crankshaft... At least it didn’t cost me the win. Maybe that helps explain the low get rate, as well as the driveshaft option if you overlook the "engine length". I was surprised that crankshaft only polled at 26%, and even my older brother missed it even...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Huge thanks for the invite to the Private JBoard rundle. I am having a ton of fun in JBoardLite!! -A S Said the MD8 JBL leader! There's just enough volatility to keep it interesting so far but it will always be fun, even if it isn't competitive. Good job getting the match points and MPD in on...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I thought I was set for a 9(6) as well, but I also said Margaret Court (apparently her married name)—I solidified in my mind fairly recently that she was Australian. Otherwise I have no doubt I would have guessed Goolagong. Her married name is Margaret Court Smith. In case it ever comes up, she los...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I had a baconator Wed night...nice to have a layup like that. Third win in a row to move into the top 5 in my 38 person rundle. Meanwhile, the 12 foot boy is killing us all in the C/D/E private rundle... Good job cracking the promotion zone. I think I'll be able to work my way back to D. I'm in fir...
