Had "pushback" and came up with an amendment total of 34. Nicely done homage to the 35th anniversary.

Re: Thursday, February 28, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This was an incredible Final Jeopardy clue, especially considering this tournament and situation, maybe even one of the best in the history of the show, taking situation into account. Agreed, this was a great FJ. Took me about 20 seconds to get it. 8-) Louie Louie would've been a great joke answer....

 :( :(  :( :( Missed with "Gentle Revolution," but I liked Ike for one response and was correct with 1952. Had no response to "Tiger, Tiger" despite all three angles listed. Got "save the date," but have also heard it termed "hold the date," which meets the 4-3-4 criterio...

Re: Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For Pangea, would my response of ‘landmass’ have prompted a BMS? I’ve never heard the term supercontinent before that is what i went with I think "landmass" is definitely too vague -- some definitions of the term include islands -- and that at least "continent" would be required (although Pangea is...

Not to mention her job is completely unnecessary to the format of the game. But can you imagine the crushing anxiety, going to bed every night wondering if the next day w...

Re: Wednesday, February 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm devastated that Team Julia has been eliminated as they were one of my favorite teams. They were just unlucky with the clues and with the fact that they were up against some very tough competitors in Team Austin and Team Ken. Not devastated, but disappointed -- Julia, Seth, and Ben are on my lis...

  :( :( :( :( Got Somalia, didn't make the transcontinental trek to Senegal in time. Might have gotten Goldman if I'd been thinking Czolgosz; for some reason Guiteau popped into my head so I wasn't thinking anarchy. Like several others have posted, "Ragtime" is on the lis...

Well, Larissa is still an absolute beast. Had Somalia immediately, but couldn't think of another 7-letter country on the west side. Glad I picked Larissa as a member of my fantasy team. Love watching her play; she has an outstanding competitive instinct and the better her opponents, the steelier sh...

Maybe a combination of question plus comment/joke.
Yes -- it's not an either/or. Or the right answer phrased weirdly -- e.g., for Aviation Disasters, "How many were Hindenburg?"

Look that up in your Funk & Wagnall's. Not only do I get this reference, I had a set of Funk & Wagnall's when I was in school. Damn, I'm old... So am I. We got our set one volume at a time, once a week, as a supermarket promo premium. Same here...was it a Kroger's? 8-) It was in my early teen...

Re: Wednesday, February 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This tournament is going to be a lot of fun. I've been kind of "meh" about the whole thing, mainly because I can't see the general audience even noticing the format change or remembering the contestants well. My intuition is always wrong, so it's probably a raging ratings success. Some viewers may ...

I was just a trifle surprised that "My God" .... "It's Full of Stores" elicited not a trace of a chuckle from either the contestants or the audience.

David Bowman would be disappointed.

Re: Tuesday, February 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'll confess that the triple stumper on Negro Leagues had me yelling at the TV. Gotta admit, I missed it, too. "Negro Leagues" seemed too late; MLB had been integrated by 1952. I had to go with "American Association." There was an AA team in Indianapolis when I was growing up watching the Denver Be...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I think the problem is that said gypsum mine is in Alabaster Township, which fools my brain into thinking that the material is called "alabaster" long enough to distract me from pulling up the actual word. The township is probably named after the mine -- alabaster IS a form of gypsum. Maybe knowing...

Would not have rung in on "humane society" or "Norton's Anthology" (went down the path of "organization for prevention of cruelty to animals????" and knew it was wrong, so would have clammed), but answered the rest correctly. Would have had $13,600 from the misses going into FJ, and would have bet t...

My abysmal performance suggests that those things I think "No one is going to say that" are exactly the things that (almost) everyone does remember...and submit as their answer. I don't remember who said this, but I was told to "take the answer you most medium suspect." I've seen it mentioned on th...

Re: FJ Poll for 2/8/2019

"Taming of the Shrew" and "Much Ado About Nothing" were my top two choices. Went with "Much Ado" since much of the play consists of musing soliloquys by the leads, and lines quoted fall into that pattern, along with fitting into the theme of being in love but either not recognizing it or not admitti...
