Re: Reretaken Down

Congrats to Hans Von Walter: http://www.j-archive.com/showplayer.php?player_id=7059 https://i.ibb.co/NtFPMnV/IMG-5970.jpg for winning on Match Game I channel surfed past this, saw Alec Baldwin, groaned, and moved on. Sorry I missed the chance to root for Hans! He was an extremely kind, patient, and...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I had to cancel my Savannah audition at the last minute because I lost my job and couldn't afford to go. It was one of the worst feelings of my life. Sorry about this. If you keep in touch with TPTB, maybe you can reschedule for another city before the next online test. Hope it works out! I emailed...

Re: Friday, June 14, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Final generally isn't about knowing the arcane pinning fact; it's about being able to suss out the correct response. Increasingly often, FJ seems to penalize players who happen to know more of the arcane facts than the writers know. Knowing more than the writers opens the door to. . . As in standar...

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Emma came down hard on the d in mood to separate it from the d in disorder. That's all.... I'm glad she made sure to get in that first "d". I wouldn't have wanted to see her negged for "moo disorder", which is, btw, something to discuss with the vet. Hey, it would have been okay if that happened. D...

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Another retail miss for me, as I've never been to Williams Sonoma and don't know what they sell. That's because there aren't any Williams-Sonoma stores in dead malls. A high-end cookware place is going to be one of the first to close when a mall starts going downhill. When my Williams-Sonoma gets r...

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I liked Emma and was rooting for her to make the ToC, but I liked all three contestants in this exciting game and would have been OK with any of them winning. Just because I'm in denial about it being a losing battle: Emma definitely said "Asterisk", not "Asterix". I felt the same way about the thr...

Re: Thursday, June 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For Final Jeopardy, I was torn between Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie (and chose the wrong one, of course). Other than knowing the actual quote, is there anything that would lead toward one rather than the other? Woody was inspired to write "The Ballad of Tom Joad" after seeing The Grapes of Wrath m...

Re: Tuesday, June 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Being this is the first post-Holzhauer game, did Emma or any of the challengers implement any of James' strategies (e.g. aggressive DD/FJ wagering, Forrest Bounce)? Read the 4th post. I am genuinely entertained at the amount of words you waste transcribing an episode that we've all seen, compared t...

Re: James wouldn't have lost pre-James

Off thread topic, but on the subject of spoilers--my husband recently scored some standardized math tests, and in the space where students are supposed to "show their work," one kid wrote out a bunch of spoilers for Avengers: Endgame . We're not really into the superhero stuff, but what a way to sti...

As for Kit Marlowe - no doubt James has the trivia chops but why even put a first name when you don't need it and you might make an unforced error?
I interpreted that as hanging on the rim. Nice lagniappe anyway.

Re: FJs for the 5/27/19 week

Someone mentioned Randy Newman having worked on Disney's The Princess and the Frog (I think in the daily thread), so here's a clip that contains a brief caricature of RN as "Cousin Randy," a firefly with washboard abs.

I don't follow Spongebob, but I never would have thought he had origins in an "educational comic." I was thinking more along the lines of the ecologically-minded, save-the-planet stuff that came out in the 90's.
Like Ferngully?
Exactly. Captain Planet, Toxic Crusaders, etc.

Re: Friday, May 31, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Does this clue refer to the Randy Newman who did "Short People?" Because if so I'm totally clueless as to any Oscar nominations he may have gotten or who the heck Lionel or the other alleged Newmans on this list even are. OK, I've heard of Alfred Newman (not the Mad guy) but had no idea any of thes...

According to Megan, who's posted on Reddit, Alex announced that he had cancer during the lunch break and the staff and contestants were made aware of this in between yesterday's and today's episodes. Wow--you'd never have guessed his cancer diagnosis was weighing on him. What a superb host, to get ...

Last night I dreamed I was playing slide blues guitar, and I'll interpret it as Stevie Ray asserting himself after I pegged him as the sheep. Sorry, man.
