Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

Lost the Koin flip on Teen/Young Adult, which in retrospect was stupid as, the parent of a teen daughter and the husband of a woman who works in high schools and reads a lot of the books her students are reading, I hear talk about YA novels all the time. Cost me 2 pts in a 3(3)-4(3) loss, dropping m...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

I went with Cleveland as well, as I could come up with 4 or 5 states with a Cleveland. Thought about Clinton as something that could be a place name, but was not familiar with any places named Clinton. Cleveland is found in 18 different states, and is about 20th most common per wikipedia.

Re: TD 413 - A to Z (Final results)

Thanks for the TD, tried to get a little cute with the stadiums...I knew GA State was playing at Turner Field, but I didn't realize it had been renovated down so much since I believe it held like 55,000 for the Braves. UMass I knew played at least some of their games at Gillette, though I did think ...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

I'd like to thank the SHC for my win yesterday as someone used machiatto in a question and the link between that word and spotted italian coffee is seared in my brain. This is my 7th season in LL, and my first "recycled" question gave me an instaget on mail. I pulled Nashville out of somewhere, alth...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

The only reason I got croquet was that I always thought the club was a tennis and bowling club, but not too long ago I saw a similar question and found out it was a tennis and croquet club. I went with the wrong direction on the train clue, going with southern over northern. I misread the math quest...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

I'm stunned the Yalu River got only 29%. I guess they don't teach the Korean War anymore. I only got it due to reading Coldest Winter recently....we never did get to Korean War (or Vietnam for that matter) when I was in middle/high school, although I can report that my 8th grade daughter is learnin...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

Losing to a 9(6) on day 1? That's more like it. I was tempted near the end to throw games to stay out of A, because sometimes it's just not fun. I lost to the same score, but down in C.... Somebody in D Magnolia 2 lost to my second ever beer yesterday...I got somewhat lucky with the questions being...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

Interesting first day. I won 9(5)-3(2) and was very surprised my opponent got so few correct. I found it to be a difficult day to defend. There didn't seem to be a clear zero-pointer, nor was there a clear three-pointer. All six questions seemed gettable, but not easy. My miss was going with "Help!...

Re: LL80: LearnedLeague

Koin was on fire yesterday and I did not know it was 3 sided at times...Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Help!/Hard Days Night, Athens/Sparta all contributing to a 1(2)-4(4) loss...I should've had Athens at least as I knew Sparta was somewhat inland, but other than knowing I'm not sure how I could know that o...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I've shot myself in the foot so many times in the Womens ML...Only put chromosome on day 1, cost me a win. The whole Sherlock Holmes thing on Day 2 ended up costing me a win (lost by 2, Opp gave me 0 and I gave her 3, both of us have lit as a worst category). Day 5 lost 0(1) - 1(1), and yesterday lo...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Defense is always fun in mini leagues. Yesterday I assigned zero to the Ted Nugent question and my opponent assigned it three. Conversely, I assigned three to De Stijl and he assigned it zero. We both got De Stijl, but he missed Nugent. It sure is. In the France ML, my opponent got Moulin Rouge (wh...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I knew from the sample questions that the France minileague was going to be tough... but ooh la la. Not so proud of my 0(1) - 1(1) loss, but I'm not alone. Check out some of the groups, like group 1: https://learnedleague.com/mini/france/index.php?mltabs=0 So the only one with more than 1 TCA is so...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Chrissie Hynde was one I could've gotten right also but I went with Stevie Nicks... You aren't the person who started that Kosman Koin thread that began with this, are you? Mine has Chrissy Hynde on one side and Stevie Nicks on the other. Not that I can tell the difference. My hunch is Chrissie Hyn...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I've been following the ML and have known a grand total of 4 answers in the first 3 days..... That's exactly my total (Runaways, Honeydrippers, Syd Barrett, Freed). Runaways, Chinese Democracy, Freed is my running list. It's been...sobering. I'm playing this ML since I thought I knew things about R...

Thanks Morbeedo, these quick ones are fun. Picked the wrong question to sheep but I can only name a few cities in Israel sadly, although I should've just gone with Jerusalem.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Might've bitten off more than I can chew with the Rock and Roll ML. Took a bagel on day 1, although if I'd been able to remember the name of the band from the recent J! champion I would've pulled out a miracle 3(1) -2 (2) win. I went the Public Enemy route with the hip hop/hall of fame question and ...
