Count me as someone surprised they didn't accept "Byelorussia".

Re: Tuesday, October 3, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Good Lord, that wager. I can't decide if it's terrifying because he *could* have blown his win with a wrong answer (had she wagered differently)... ... or if the final total is just ... "nice". Amy thinks she can't win unless she bets big. With Ryan out Amy thinks there is no penalty for betting it...

So it seems from whenever Italian composers comes up as a category, the answers will always be Verdi, Vivaldi, Puccini, Rossini, and then some mystery fifth answer, in some order, right? :D

Re: Friday, July 14, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Was that last daily double really difficult or am I missing something? Is it well known that Barbarians are derived from Greeks? That was probably my least favorite clue of the game. I might have said Greeks just to avoid clamming, but I found the clue to be misleading. The word "barbarian" comes f...

Re: Friday, July 14, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I read The Phantom Tollbooth a long time ago, but I don't remember much of it. But even without remembering it, that seemed like a real WECIB? clue. Maybe it helped that I always refer to a certain local church as "Our Lady of Jumping to Conclusions". "Office Space" helped in getting that one. :P

Re: Friday, July 14, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

For FJ, I knew Charlie McCarthy was the dummy, but I figured I wouldn't get it because I couldn't think of the first name. Accepting just "McCarthy" doesn't seem right, but YMMV.

Great run Joe!

Random question, what was the large sound after Alex said Chantelle had the right answer on FJ?

Re: Wednesday, May 31, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Hi everyone! Long-time JBoard lurker, first time poster. This was a very exciting and nerve-wracking experience for me, and hopefully I give some more detail about the day's events. First, I wasn't upset at all about the "primer/preemer/primmer" overrule. When I heard the word pronounced "primmer,"...

Re: Wednesday, May 31, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Man, Joe looked like he was about to have a heart attack at the end there. I don't blame him. I can see in your mind calculating that you have the win, starting to get excited, hear Alex say someone else won, you thinking you messed up the math, and him correcting himself all within 5 seconds.

Re: Monday, April 24, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Alan was the alternate who didn't get picked on November 30th (which aired the week of March 6th through 10th) and was going to get called back in January, and so he was. And it looks like that was a good thing for the rest of us that day, since he kicked butt!

Re: Monday, April 17, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Do you think they would have accepted just "Truman" instead of "Margaret Truman"? The contestant got it wrong by using the first name Bess, but I'm wondering if someone at that point could still have gotten it by just the last name. Also, it ticked me off that the runner-up's FJ answer was "What Cle...

Re: Tuesday, April 11, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

For FJ it really helped to have grown up on the east coast rather than the west coast. I'm from VA but every time we drove up to NYC or to the Meadowlands for Army/Navy we took it, so I knew the rest stops and the S&G song helped to confirm.

Did Alex call it the "New Jersey Turnpark" though?

Wow that was one of the toughest FJs in quite some time. Possibly because I know squat about contemporary artists.

I can't make sense of any of the wagers. They must not supply calculators.
Depends on your definition of calculator. They provide a piece of paper and a Sharpie.
I definitely did the math about 20 times in my first game to make sure I didn't wager too much.

FJ was an instaget for me, but I grew up in Haymarket, which is on the other side of Prince William Country from Quanitco, so if there's one area I randomly know it's that!

I guess Manet for the painting but I can never tell the Impressionists apart.

I'm surprised after "rods" was wrong on that one clue no one guessed "cones".

Go Kevin!

Congrats Kevin! This is good month for boardies who compete on a Tuesday! As others mentioned, a good back and forth game. Kevin jumped to the led early, weathered the other contestants and went into FJ, then did a great job getting it in FJ! All that said, the thing I take away from this is Rebecca...

Re: Wednesday, March 15, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm wondering how well the contestants would have done on FJ pre-2014. Having a World Cup in Brazil and an Olympics in Rio within the last 3 years definitely gave me a lot more exposure to what is in Rio. Guessing based on the songwriter's name that it was somewhere in Latin/South America led me to ...

Re: Monday, March 13, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I can't remember, but would Bonnie have been locked out if she did nothing on the last clue and Jessica got it? If yes, then going for it maybe makes sense since leaving it up to Jessica leaves it out of your hands. (That said this is all much easier to say when you're watching.)
