58, and I've seen it several times. But I missed FJ. :(

Re: Friday, April 20, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

For FJ my first thought was Lancelot and I was happy enough about it that didn't seriously try to think of anything else. Oops.

28 immaf 64 [at his request, 10 points to be added to this score]
Thank you? But FYI, it should read "at her request".

Re: TD 372 - CLASSIC AREA CODES 4xx (405 & 406 REVEALED)

I hate to do this to myself, but... immaf (Why Would a Fellow Want a Girl Like Her) should be counted as wrong, rather than a singleton. According to Wikipedia, the title of that song is "The Sisters Lament." I wish that musicals followed the operatic convention that the title of an aria is the firs...

Not doing too badly for once, but I know I have a wrong answer coming on a question I should have been able to score a singleton.

I honestly thought that emerald cut and baguette cut were synonymous -- and I think the diagram you showed in the question could apply to either. (They are extremely similar, and I can't find a good explanation of how to distinguish one from the other.) I respectfully request that my answer NOT be c...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Pacific), March 8, 2018

Playing from the video, I got 44 on this test -- I think that's my best ever. So... for the three nights I am 30 - 41 - 44. And naturally, I took the first one for real. Sigh. I am trying to console myself by saying that the first one was obviously a fluke, and that bad luck can happen to anyone. Al...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), March 7, 2018

I picked the wrong test to take. Last night, playing for real, I did horribly -- 30, if you must know.
Tonight, playing from the video: 41
Rats on toast.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), March 6, 2018

That was brutal. There is no way I made 35. I said emu instead of rhea (noticed "South American too late) and simply could not dredge "Brave New World" out of my head. Plus, I didn't realize that you had to click in the answer box on the first question. I might have gotten that one, but I was too l...

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

Whatever selection process they are using to winnow down all those who pass the quiz (and pick the same audition city) to the manageable number who actually get invited, that process can be pretty brutal. Whether it's absolutely random, luck-of-the-draw, or something else...just brutal. Dating back...

Gonna stare at this one for a while Notice post-inaugural cult qualified to vote, in a way (5) Got it. Adult. Notice = AD; Post-inaugural cult = ULT (everything but the "inaugural" letter) Adults are qualified to vote. The "in a way" part is unnecessary, and at first I thought the answer would star...

Re: Football Category Poll (2/1/18 SPOILERS)

It's a good thing the poll lets us revise our results. I said "play action" for the $200 clue. I initially counted it as correct, I guess because in my sad excuse for a brain "play action" became "play option" which seemed close enough to "option play." I only realized my error through reading this...

Re: Cryptic Crosswords

These are a fascinatingly odd thing that I've never heard of before this thread. Are we just expected to know all the shorthand/codes? Or is there an "official" primer somewhere? On a trip to England once, I picked up a book that was essentially "cryptic crosswords for beginners." It taught some of...

State what we'd do if we lost a vowel? (8)

All I can say is it begins with M :?

I think it's Missouri. But why?
This one is tough. A WAG:

Michigan? Other than the obvious, "state" can also be a clue that you're looking for a "sounds like" answer. Michigan = "Miss a ???"

Whisper the name of Bertrand audibly (6)

Um? :geek:
"Audibly" is a hint that you are looking for a "sounds like" answer.
SpoilerShow
The "name of Bertrand" made me think of Bertrand Russel. Russel sounds like "rustle," which is six letters, and could be considered a "whisper."
