  :(  ---- :( :( ---- Never heard of the country singer, and me thoughtum only of peace pipes. Morgan dollar also rang no bells, but it's nice to read they were named for their designer and not, for instance, JP. I only remember the Eisenhower dollars o...

Re: Friday, April 3, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Was there a tease out metric for University of Michigan or were we just supposed to recognize the song? There was a sizeable chunk of its lyrics... I didn't even need the audio. "Hail To The Victors" is likely the 2nd-most famous American college fight song behind Notre Dame's. I can't even think o...

Chronology and geography would have helped retrospectively - The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms are in the 20s, while For Whom the Bell Tolls and A Farewell to Arms are both set in Spain. A Farewell to Arms is set in Italy. Oops, I messed up juggling the three Wikipedia pages, and trying to ...

'Do you solemnly affirm to tell the truth' is a very clunky phrase to my ears. Is it even grammatical? This sporcle quiz was my recent first, belated introduction to "The Snowy Day", though I just now had it read to me on youtube (no link this time as it's easy enough to find and there are several d...

A way to remember the provinces in order starting on the west coast is that the first letters spell BASMOQ.
But, how do you remember BASMOQ?

"Baseballs Are Seldom Made Of Quartz".

I missed with Alberta and Saskatchewan--I knew that the Northwest Territory was big, but I didn't realize that it stretched that far east. I got to see J! instead of a briefing today and watched off the DVR. I ran it back, and Leanne said "Kristen Gillibrand". I expected a score change before FJ!. ...

I don't think they sell Dove chocolate bars in Canada. If they do, I've never seen them before.
They are chocolate-covered ice cream bars.

I got schneided on the TV Before & After category, but I did get FJ. Not sure I would have if not for my memory of baseball announcers calling Fred McGriff "the crime dog", border-line nonsensical as that nickname may have been. "The Luck of the Irish" does not alas derive from a four-leaved clover....

Man, this episode hurt so good

Perhaps the dumbest set of opera clues we’ve ever seen. This “green” guy? Come on, writers!
If Jeopardy opera knowledge equaled real opera knowledge, I'd be giving lectures at the Met.

While telling us about the Mexican-American war, my eighth-grade history teacher Mr. Zamastil explained that, were it not for worries over upsetting the delicate slave state-free state balance, the USA's southern border might today have been at Guatemala. I've kept it in my head it all these decades...

WHAT AN IDIOM! for $200: "It doesn't affect me adversely, so it's "No skin" from here". Accepted response: "off my nose". My response: "off my back". I assume this is just a regional difference? Don't get that. We're all too young to remember Thomas Jefferson's presidency, and yet they still manage to slip him in there from time to time, and some of us actually answer correctly. I once heard an old trivia vet say "there's no such thing as 'before my time' to a real trivia buff." There's on...

I guess this warning only ran the first time each episode aired? With Sesame Street it was the other way; the 40th anniversary DVDs bore the warning that some material may be unsuitable for young children. Too late for me.

Can we agree that the peacock clue was horribly misplaced, at least? Definitely. I think they should have included the word "proud" in there to describe the bird and that would have provided the necessary TOM. I suspect that some clues are placed in the top row not so much for their perceived easin...

And I've gotten many of the season's hardest questions (Beverly Sills, Apu, Naguib Mahfouz) while botching apparent gimmes like Fatboy Slim. It's just never duLL. I was surprised that Fatboy Slim played as easy as he did, since I didn't think that he had been relevant since...1999, or thereabouts. ...

Last night's clue (" Now stepping to the collection plate & leading mass in 2008 at Yankee Stadium, this pope, No. XVI, this pope ") under the category Hear Here, New York was very clever as it mimicked the late Bob Sheppard.
