Re: The GREATEST OF ALL TIME FJs for the 1/13/20 week

 :( Marc Antony was my rather dumb guess on the Shakespeare clue. Brutus would have been a much better try from the same play. I blurted out my answer quickly, though, thinking I remembered it from somewhere, but either it was a different trivia question or maybe I was also wrong that other...

Re: Thursday, January 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Beatles alert! I was just thinking this past week, "Huh, no Beatles clues for a LONG time on J!, and I figured that should be a J! favorite." Maybe they milked all the clues? Maybe it's too bimodal - either really easy trivia that everyone knows, or stupidly obscure facts? Too much of a "trivia cir...

Lost a long post. Damn it. :(  :(    I wasn't sure how to answer regarding Monday's FJ, because I feel I did solve it correctly; I just didn't give the right answer. Re: Friday, January 10, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Fogey is spelled wrong by the writers. Merriam-Webster approves of the "fogy" spelling. (In fact, they say "fogey" is a less common variant.) "Fogy" is far ahead in google matches (I'm not saying this is dispositive, but work with me here), but when paired with "old" (as it usually is), "fogey" tak...

 :(    :( Somehow I had formed the idea that 'Birdseye' is the answer whenever frozen/TV dinners arise in a trivia context. Re: J! in the Media

It would have been a fun little story to tell about what happened in Game 2 and I am surprised they didn’t. We've been teased twice now in this thread, can you please elaborate? I can't be the only boardie who's been snipe hunting multiple times, lol... J! Archive has the second game of the Trebek ...

I counted "unique" as right for DD1 because I can't see why it is wrong. If someone can tease it out, I'll mark it wrong. I counted it as a "no harm, no foul" at first, but I think I'm giving myself credit. I looked it up in Merriam's Thesaurus online, and it goes both ways in terms of synonyms, an...

Straightforward FJ today. My only hesitation was in classifying Papa as a 1950s person since I associate him more with the ‘30s.
I guess they took the category name from the date of the New Yorker profile.

By the way, even if you're not a Hemingway fan, and I'm mostly not, his A Moveable Feast is a funny, moving, non-fictional (purportedly) account of his time in Paris with authors like F. Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein. It's an easy read and a fairly painless way to acquire a lot of Jeopardy!-a...

Some Sporcle quizzes accept just "Colossus". Doesn't mean Jeopardy would or should, but I'm too lazy to research that history.

The Scrumpdiddlyumptious bar seems to have lacked the staying power of Everlasting Gobstoppers, but I do remember when it was sold in the store.

Scots pine; I knew it was likely something associated with Christmas, but couldn't think of anything. I don't think of holly as a tree, even though Harry Potter's wand is made of holly. I can't see anything wrong with Scots pine as an answer.     :mrgre...

The likelihood of The African Queen as a response made me somewhat surprised they ran with this FJ. I thought about posting to that effect the other night, but I didn't wish to introduce anything off-color into the thread.

Years ago, when Swoosie Kurtz's father died, I felt sorry that the NY Times obit section failed to write the headline "Mistah Kurtz--he dead". Maybe another paper took their chance but I wonder how widely his death was reported.

I was surprised at the 53% get rate on St. Lucia, but then noticed they gave the Capital, which was probably the pathway for the rote memory geographers. I thought the Larch was a Dr. Seuss creature. I did think of Yew as English (longbow and all), but they'd more likely have used that on St. Crispin's Day.

Isn't holly more often seen just outside the home? Still, I thought it was a fun clue, if not particularly well-pinned. I guess they'd have had to accept Scots Pine.

Curious what is the preemptor. Some impeachment thing?
