Re: Wednesday, March 3, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It seems like principal architect is someone who is in charge of a building, who supervises all of the many construction projects that go on at a large facility. Did I M Pei fulfill that role? I think his function was only to design the pyramid. He was probably never architect in Residence at the L...

BILLBOARD #1 HITS

These two singers whose names rhyme with each other had #1 hits with the same title; one in 1994, the other in 2008.
Spoiler
Who are Madonna and Rihanna? ("Take a Bow")
I got this one, but only because it was a question on an old episode of The Chase.

Re: Wednesday, February 24, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS) by Archivists

I have a feeling that FJ clue was pretty easy for those of us in the over 50 demo. Avon was a bigger deal 40 years ago. Would younger people even know Avon exists? I'm 34 and I got it, but probably because I watched Edward Scissorhands and remember "Avon calling!" Depends if they're fans of Edward ...

I knew the book Pioneers (I own a bookstore) but then went and confused Cooper with Jack London. Then said Kipling for Tolstoy—the name did not sound particularly Russian to me. Did Mike say the name with a bit of a Russian accent? No nearly as strong as Alex would sometimes do, but I thought I hea...

Apparently I can't count to 8 fast enough for crossword clues - I thought "trinket" was 8. I don't know why I thought a talisman could also be used for evil or bad luck (ie the monkey paw from the Brady Bunch), but I guess it's for good luck, mainly.
Monkey paw? Do you mean the Tiki idol?

The clue never said it was. So you would have been okay with CSNY or NKotB being in the category? You mean like this? #5448, aired 2008-04-23 MUSICAL INITIALS $400: The 4 members in the band CSNY or this? #8264, aired 2020-10-22 ABBREVIATED BANDS $200: A boy band: NKOTB #6418, aired 2012-07-11 ABBR...

Prosecco was my favorite WAG of the night Prosecco seemed like a great guess to me. I said Asti, but when she said Prosecco I thought she could possibly be correct, and turns out Prosecco is also named for an Italian town. [not sure if you're implying that Prosecco was a poor guess or a good one] M...

Did anybody catch that HOOPS clue in this game, "In 1990 this Chicago Bull banged the Cleveland Cavaliers with a career-high 69 points"?

One of those FJs I like because it's not something you're likely to know, but you have to connect the dots to get to the answer. I was surprised it was a TS, though. I was visiting the Ronald Reagan Institute of Emergency Medicine at George Washington University Hospital just this week. The hospita...

Not good for me as I sheeped with the contestants in having nothing better occur to me other than common Irish counties such as Clare and Cork. It would've been funny if Ken had read "Houyhnhnms" onomatopoetically, à la Alex's Dracula accent. That would've given away the correct response, as Alex sometimes did, and it would've been worth it. Any wagers as to whether KJ copies/honors Alex on "Dracula" when given the chance? I say yes. "Robb...

Priscilla Barnes led me astray on the "crane" TAE KWON DO clue - she was the replacement for Chrissy/Suzanne Sommers on Three's Company, and her cheesy 80s "smile at the camera while my name appears on the bottom" pose during the opening theme was standing like a flamingo in front of...well, flamin...

I HATE THE TIEBREAKER Amen. I can't imagine that the reason for it is simply $$, as it can't possibly make that much of a dent in the J! budget if they have to give out two first prizes once per season or so. Doesn't strike me as more emotionally satisfying this way either. I would just hate-hate-h...
