Re: Monday, March 30, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

When it was clear they were looking for an animal in FJ, I kept thinking of the ones who've advertised various cereal brands over the years, (Tony the Tiger, Toucan Sam, etcet), but knew they were all before 1980. Incidentally, most of those were created by the same Ad Agency in Chicago that became ...

The clue is not maintaining that the chain is called "General Nutrition Centers".
My question wasn't whether he said "Center" or Centers". My question was whether he said "Nutrition" or "Nutritional," and I've been overruled.

The chain is actually called "General Nutrition Center" while Matt said "Nutritional." I was surprised they didn't change his score.

Re: Monday, March 23, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This talk about the "too young" comment reminds me of the time in my workplace that several of us were incredulous when a know-it-all coworker wasn't familiar with the book "1984." Her explanation: "Do you know how old I was in 1984?" (seven) Never mind that the book was written in 1948, and never m...

OK, judges: granting that "fallacious" was the desired response, I came up with "specious". Close enough?
I'd say so. I actually said "fallicious," which is related, but not exactly the same judges?

FJ was definitely not an instaget for me, but about halfway through I thought, "Ova--eggs," i.e. oval-shaped or ovaries. Not the easiest FJ ever, but not the hardest either.

Tonight may be the first time one of my relatives has been mentioned in a clue. Scott Adsit is a distant cousin--his Mom and My Dad are first cousins. Last time I was him was almost 40 years ago.

Would they have accepted just "Colassus" on the second DD? I got that part, but if he gave me a BMS, I would've been at a loss.

On the first DD, would they have accepted just "Rockefeller?" If they needed to BMS, would "John D" without the "Jr" have sufficed?

Would they have accepted "Zosa" for "Xhosa?" I would've gotten it for sure if it were an FJ, but pronouncing it is another matter.

I confused Haydn with Chopin and went with Poland. In retrospect, "1947" should have eliminated that because one would think Poland would not have waited two years to revert back from a Nazi-associated anthem.
I went with Poland as well, simply because I knew the Nazis had invaded that country.

For lack of a better answer, I said "Algonquin Roundtable" on FJ. I now realize that group had broken up well before '39.

As for James, I think an average Coryatt score of $25,000 speaks for itself.

Bif found and converted all three DDs so he should and did have a runaway. It was as if Bif told his opponents, "Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?" Instaget FJ! for me. Transcon was a decent guess, but Iditarod? :o
Actually, Iditarod was my first answer before I crossed it out and wrote "Pony Express." I don't think it was a bad guess either, as the Iditarod also started pretty much as a relay race against time.
