Re: Friday, November 20, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Kierkegaard was the first name I thought of. Kierke could mean church so that’s that. I tried to think of other options but Kierkegaard felt so right my brain drew a compete blank on any other philosophers there were.

Re: Thursday, November 19, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Disappointingly, I thought of Count of Monte Cristo first, and then this image instantly popped into my head. So I went with Phantom. Why? Guy Pearce did not play Edmond. When I thought of Count of Monte Cristo I was like “wow that’s easy”. I was surprised they both picked Man in the Iron Mask, and...

Re: FJs for the 3/16/15 week

     :( :( My second time ever of "checked all five above"! Had "Three Blind Mice" for "The Mousetrap". Good week for me. On Monday, I guessed Diego, Dora's cousin. His last name is also Marquez but I see from Wikipedia that he debuted in 2002, ...

Re: Tuesday, March 17, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Can we discuss how brutal that Shakespeare category was? It's not that any of the plays asked about weren't fair game as correct responses, but the clues seemed mostly kind of obscure to me. They mostly avoided the things people know about these plays. While I might have come up with these answers ...

Re: Friday, January 16, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Both Keats and Shelley are buried in Rome and both died before 30, so this really is a coin flip unless you know the epitaphs. Good thing I didn’t know Shelley was buried in Rome then! I knew Keats’s epitaph was something like "Here lies One whose Name was written in Water" so I thought it's probab...

Re: Tuesday, November 25, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought the $200 Opera clue was ridiculous as well. Is it really commonly known that Lenora hides poison in her ring in Il Trovatore ? Other than that "easiest" clue, I ran the category. I was puzzled as well. My instant guess would have been a locket on her necklace. Had to take a second or two ...

Re: FJs for the 5/19/14 week

:( :(   :( Fairly good week for me. I’m surprised LOTF get rate is so low. Never read it but it’s the only sort-of-scary 50s novel I know of. What else could it be? Though I was sure I got it wrong when Alex said if you hadn’t read the book it’d be ver...

Re: Friday, May 23, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Somehow I got RFK without getting that the clue was pointing toward L.A. Same here. I instaguessed RFK, thinking Chavez was more late 60s, and I knew he was assassinated. MLK didn't cross my mind, but I still think I would've gone with Kennedy. I didn’t even know who Don Drysdale was but was fairly...

Bamaman wrote: It would have been funny if she suddenly got married and the news broke while they were having lunch before the finals.
I'm sure they'd just switch to a different FJ and nobody would ever hear about it.

:( :( :(
:( :(

After missing all 8 FJs in a row I certainly didn't expect to get both in final.

Normally I'd never get a clue about some battleship but I've read and loved Robert Massie's Dreadnought: Britain, Germany, and the Coming of the Great War.

Re: Friday, May 16, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was always aware Ken needed more than $1500 lead before FJ and was really nervous during the final clues. I was happy to see he had $1800, totally thought he got it with such as easy FJ, and was bummed when his answer was revealed. Still, I’m thrilled I got 2 FJs that Ken Jennings missed. I know p...

Re: Thursday, May 15, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

That was a ballsy Daily Double bet, Roger...I felt so bad when you missed it and mad at Ken for goading you into making it a "true daily double." I think if it was a $2000 clue, or if Roger was new at playing tournament, Ken’s ‘goading’ would have looked dubious. But as it was,TDD was so obviously ...

Re: Wednesday, May 14, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Victoria's father? I did not have a name. After her was Edward VII. That I remembered. In that way thinking of Edward at least gave me a guess and I wrote Prince Edward Island. That's the best reasoning! Wish I had thought of that. Naturally she'd name her eldest son after her father. I could only ...

Re: Monday, May 12, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I wasn't a fan of the "Robert Scott" DD or Ken's wager on it. I knew that Barrie was Scottish, Scott was English, and Amundsen was Norwegian, but to me the clue pointed more to the person whose expedition was successful, so I joined Ken in guessing Amundsen. I thought the opposite. I got a heavy fe...

Heh. When did you bail? Sometime in the third series, I would guess? (I know some fans felt insulted by the opening fake-out, revealed as Anderson's wacky theories, but I loved that stuff. The stupid Magnussen case drove me up the wall, though. Photographic memory is all you need to be a supervilla...

Re: Friday, May 9, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

As a former fan of BBC’s Sherlock I was thrilled to see the Sherlock Holmes category. The only one I missed was the $200 clue which didn’t seem to be related to the TV series.

Re: Monday, October 28, 2013 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm in good company with Bumppo. (Cumppony? ...no.) Same, although I came up with "Hawkeye". I've read the entire Holmes canon, but got distracted by the "tribal" nature of the clue (tattoos? tracking?). Now had the clue been about cigar ash, I would have been all over it. Very belatedly catching u...

Although Aida was instaget, if I was up there and it’s a lock game, I would have written down Antony and Cleopatra, which is close in location, and exactly right in year (and maybe write 'Go Ben!' in the corner to show I know what I'm talking about)!

Phantom of the Opera for 2000? When I saw Christine Daae Under 2000 I thought it must be Love Never Dies (though didn't know whether it palyed on broadway). Was surprsied it turned out to be Angel of Music.
