Re: Who's interested in taking over support for the TD queue and archive?

OK, then. I just posted my last update to the TD queue and archive (#449). Hereafter, please don't contact me regarding the queue or archive, other than if somebody wants to take over the process, then I will provide a short tutorial on how I've been managing it the last 8 1/2 years. There's one TD ...

Re: JBoard games

Well, there's Summer Hiatus Challenge, but that's different in all the ways that it's different. Sure. I purposely avoided going there, since the SHC is a much bigger deal. But thx.... I guess it did require a mention for those unfamiliar with it**. I was just trying to tease out something, somethi...

JBoard games

I'll just throw this out there.... In addition to the regular appearance of TD -- which has obviously become a lot less regular -- JBoardies used to host and play other games, none of which have surfaced here in some time. A lot of new boardies have appeared since then and many have left, so it migh...

Re: A Math Question

The percentage of outcomes in which you get no rooster, assuming as you do that the ratio is effectively invariant, is (4/5)^4= 41%. The percentage of one-rooster outcomes is (4/5)^3*1/5*4= 41% also. The remaining 18% of outcomes are divided up into 2, 3 and 4 rooster scenarios. Would the same logi...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Can't say I recall hearing of herbes de Provence. Why was that so well-known? I knew the question sounded familiar, but couldn't place it or the answer. Shoulda just taken a guess on some area in France ("herbes"). Mid-Season 68/1: https://learnedleague.com/oneday.php?classic_68. Four years ago, bu...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Damn, what was that show that F. Murray Abraham was on? Oh well, guess I'll have to go with my second choice, Saturday Night Live.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

3 correct each of the last 6 matches. 3-2-1 record, and in that order: 3W then 2L then 1T.

This is the 42nd TD that I have hosted and also should have been (I think) week 42 of the 36th Jeopardy! season. Therefore, the title for this quiz is "42" and all questions are based on three ways (2 x 21, 3 x 14, 6 x 7) to get to that number.
And this is JBoard thread #5742

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Apparently "silicone" was accepted for the silicon/aluminum question which required two elements. How are you supposed to be able to put up an informed defense when clearly wrong answers are being allowed. Poor spelling is allowed. I know silicone is something different from silicon, but also a rea...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I noticed "sial" only after I had already decided that aluminum/silicon was the most likely answer; all other consecutive pairs seemed like non-starters. Helped to know the first 20 elements in order, though I keep stalling on finding a mnemonic for the next 20.

Once I learned of it many many years ago, I've always remembered that McNamara was the management force behind development of the Ford Falcon, a nascent major entry into smaller versions of American family cars, beginning around 1960. https://hips.hearstapps.com/roa.h-cdn.co/assets/15/32/640x320/lan...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I'm not even looking at my results yesterday...I manually typed in the URL for today's game to bypass the homepage altogether... It's not like you were the only who didn't get a lot right. You may be surprised. 2 correct was good enough for an A Rundle tie for me. I need a mental reset. It's not ju...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Only escaped my first 0(0) by getting Davy for 3. Thank you J! clue repetition for being above the low get percentage on that one. This LL season is going like the year 2020: started out with so much promise and then just went to hell in a handcart ! I've always found that expression interesting in...

I recognized Ahmet Ertegun and Jann Wenner, but I convinced myself it was something to do with an AIDS charity. I recognized Ertegun and Stein as record company moguls, and Wenner from Rolling Stone. AIDS and the Ethiopian famine were the two things that came to mind for me initially. Recognized Er...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I got 1 right yesterday, tying VeredJ who got 0 right. I should have gotten Ireland, especially in the wake of Wednesday's CATHOLIC NATIONS category on J!. Peabo Bryson was my one get. Peabo Bryson is the one name that always comes quickly when considering his genre/era of singers, so why not go wi...
