Jean de Florette
That's more of a nickname. His name is Jean Cadoret.
Thx for the correction. I suspected as such, but a cursory look didn't turn up anything.

I knew that someone like you would have the answer!

Re: Movie (and the like) Quiz -- General-purpose time-waster

French: Madame Bovary (are titles ok?) I thought of this one but discarded it, since her full name is Emma Bovary ;) As the head arbiter, I would rule against titles, honorifics, etc. being part of the name. Seems to be one step farther away from the original intent of First+Last = Title. (Here's a...

Dr. Strangelove (Never given a first name) But he IS given a subtitle: "or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". Bonus hosannas in the highest to anyone who knows Dr. Strangelove's real name in his backstory before he came to the U.S. and changed it. It's mentioned in the film during a...

... Dumbo Cinderella Pinocchio If those are OK, then you're got Mulan, Bambi, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, Pocahontas, Hercules, etc. I like the original concept of first and last name. Quite true. How about we create a sub-category of characters with only one name? I'll guess that the strictly first+las...

Name a film -- defined broadly to include theatrical and streaming releases, mini- and ongoing- TV/streaming series, foreign, oldies or newies, etc. -- whose title is exactly and only the full name (at least first+l...

[rant]OK, if you enter a rock and roll mini league you should know Alan Freed is the person credited with coming up with the term.[/rant] Were I playing, I would have zero'd that with no thought about it. You might want to check that. Jan 1, 2019, is a Tuesday. Therefore Jan 5 is Saturday.
I suspect this will stay open until Wednesday, January 9th.

Side note: This is JBoard thread #5000.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Somehow the unthinkable has happened. The person who was in the top-5 most of the season lost her last 3 and the person in 6th forfeited. So, my win pushed me from 7th to 5th, which promotes me to A. The person in 8th, who has 13 more TCA than I do also has 2 FL, so he most certainly would have bea...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I have never heard of Quinn Martin. As one of the few who got it, I can only surmise that having seen it so many times when I was young must have imprinted itself somewhere in my brain. I have no idea how I was able to dredge it forth as quickly as I did after a very short detour to Quincy. An addi...

35% for a MCWA is remarkably high, possibly the highest I've seen in my 16 seasons.
The Land Between the Lakes MCWA got 71%, but that was back in LL55.
Right! Before my time, but that's come up before on either the LL board or this one.... or maybe both.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I was one of the big group of dummies (35%) that thought "bailout" was a phrase... I was debating between bailout and TBTF. I decided that bailout wasn't a phrase, and that it probably had uses involving ejector seats before 1984. I rejected "bailout" as not a phrase and surely in use prior to 1984...
