Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Looks like I've been moved from C Prairie to B Serengeti. HallJ and HasanA I will assume are J! champs Jared Hall and Ali Hasan? That could be partially my fault. (Don't know whether you'll praise or denounce me for your landing in B.) I'm sitting out this season, so that opened up a spot in B Sere...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I felt pretty good about the School of Rick ML, as I usually do with general knowledge type quizzes. 1. Which soap opera star wished that he had "Jessie's Girl" in 1981? 2. Which founding member of the McCoy's had a hit with "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo", and also recorded Hulk Hogan's theme song "Re...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I felt pretty good about the School of Rick ML, as I usually do with general knowledge type quizzes. However, when you’re in a group with someone who gets 64/66 questions correct, there’s limited opportunity to make the Championship. Curious which two questions they missed? These two: https://learn...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I play very few of the One-Days, but enjoyed this one: https://www.learnedleague.com/oneday.php?childrenofthe80s There's a new 1DS today that I bet you'd enjoy/you've enjoyed, also. Congrats to our own Randy G on his top 20 finish in that One Day. Thanks Myron, it was also fun and I'll take 233/100...

TDs 450-450 (current)

TD 450, clt013, Best Laid Plans http://www.jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5771 1. Illinois - The initial state we would have passed through (after leaving Iowa) is one that accepts E-ZPass on toll roads. Name another state where E-ZPass is accepted. 2. Re: Who's interested in taking over support for the TD queue and archive?

OK, then. I just posted my last update to the TD queue and archive (#449). Hereafter, please don't contact me regarding the queue or archive, other than if somebody wants to take over the process, then I will provide a short tutorial on how I've been managing it the last 8 1/2 years. There's one TD ...

Re: JBoard games

Well, there's Summer Hiatus Challenge, but that's different in all the ways that it's different. Sure. I purposely avoided going there, since the SHC is a much bigger deal. But thx.... I guess it did require a mention for those unfamiliar with it**. I was just trying to tease out something, somethi...

JBoard games

I'll just throw this out there.... In addition to the regular appearance of TD -- which has obviously become a lot less regular -- JBoardies used to host and play other games, none of which have surfaced here in some time. A lot of new boardies have appeared since then and many have left, so it migh...

Re: A Math Question

The percentage of outcomes in which you get no rooster, assuming as you do that the ratio is effectively invariant, is (4/5)^4= 41%. The percentage of one-rooster outcomes is (4/5)^3*1/5*4= 41% also. The remaining 18% of outcomes are divided up into 2, 3 and 4 rooster scenarios. Would the same logi...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Can't say I recall hearing of herbes de Provence. Why was that so well-known? I knew the question sounded familiar, but couldn't place it or the answer. Shoulda just taken a guess on some area in France ("herbes"). Mid-Season 68/1: https://learnedleague.com/oneday.php?classic_68. Four years ago, bu...

Damn, what was that show that F. Murray Abraham was on? Oh well, guess I'll have to go with my second choice, Saturday Night Live.

3 correct each of the last 6 matches. 3-2-1 record, and in that order: 3W then 2L then 1T.

This is the 42nd TD that I have hosted and also should have been (I think) week 42 of the 36th Jeopardy! season. Therefore, the title for this quiz is "42" and all questions are based on three ways (2 x 21, 3 x 14, 6 x 7) to get to that number.
And this is JBoard thread #5742

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

Apparently "silicone" was accepted for the silicon/aluminum question which required two elements. How are you supposed to be able to put up an informed defense when clearly wrong answers are being allowed. Poor spelling is allowed. I know silicone is something different from silicon, but also a rea...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I noticed "sial" only after I had already decided that aluminum/silicon was the most likely answer; all other consecutive pairs seemed like non-starters. Helped to know the first 20 elements in order, though I keep stalling on finding a mnemonic for the next 20.

Once I learned of it many many years ago, I've always remembered that McNamara was the management force behind development of the Ford Falcon, a nascent major entry into smaller versions of American family cars, beginning around 1960. https://hips.hearstapps.com/roa.h-cdn.co/assets/15/32/640x320/lan...

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I'm not even looking at my results yesterday...I manually typed in the URL for today's game to bypass the homepage altogether... It's not like you were the only who didn't get a lot right. You may be surprised. 2 correct was good enough for an A Rundle tie for me. I need a mental reset. It's not ju...
