Thanks for hosting!

More of this. Putting together and running a quiz takes time and effort. I can unequivocally state from having done this several times that showing appreciation is very much appreciated and provides an incentive to do it again.

Re: LL83: Learned League

I saw "Liliom" and immediately knew the answer was going to be Carousel , having recently watched the 1930 filmed version of Liliom out of curiosity. Aside from the non-musical aspect, this version and others so-named are much closer to the original play. Anyway -- and I say this as someone who has ...

I just wasn't sure if it's as good as whatever other candidates there are.
Generally speaking, anything we come up with is significantly better than what actually gets nominated.

Another tough day yesterday, with Camp David Accords my only get. And I said Marie Callender for Maria Callas
You may not take any solace in this, but I'd vote for that for the season's Very Best Wrong Answer.

Re: LL83: Learned League

Outlier? In the 42 matches from the beginning of LL82 through LL83/MD17, I had a grand total of 3 MCW's. Yesterday, in LL83/MD18 alone, I had 3 MCW's. Kosman koin said "no" when I chose between "Norwegian Wood" and "Nowhere Man." C'mon.... Nowhere Man sounded like a much better title for a novel, t...

Re: LL83: Learned League

From anyone who got the W. C. Fields question right, I'm interested in hearing what specifically tipped people off -- was it one of the character names in particular? I'm hardly a WC Fields fan and have not seen that many of his works, but The Bank Dick is actually quite good. Mahatma Kane Jeeves a...

Moldau --> Moldova --> Chișinău? (figured he was going for a more well-known capital city, but oh well)
The Moldau --> Smetana (Czech composer) --> Prague

Re: LL83: Learned League

Wahaddi just wasn't close enough. Nor was dropout. I was surprised at the 40% get rate on Wahhabi. That's something that doesn't sound at all familiar to me. Cost me a tight one yesterday, losing 7(5)-6(5). My opponent missed "The College Dropout." I've always thought my defense was pretty good, bu...

Re: LL83: Learned League

That Private Rundle is a tough place to hang out with a bunch of A Rundlers beating up on each other. For that music question, my thought process went "Brian and Bryan? Eno and Ferry of Roxy Music. Swedish duo? Must be Roxette. Early '80s single by a trio? Must be Roxanne by the Police." No way I w...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I expected Special Victims Unit to play much harder. From the wording, mimicking the opening spiel, it seemed to be pointing to accepting the full wording only, not SVU. (Might have created a stink within LL, if so, but still.) Hence, taking a chance of giving a 3 to someone with a low Television hi...

I was a little surprised he didn't ask for both Frost and Nixon
If you know one, you know the other.
For most, probably. But I could see a player, especially a younger one, taking a stab at Nixon, given the date, but either not remembering Frost or never knowing about him.

Re: LL83: Learned League

It didn't matter in the match results, but I was given credit for "serum albumin" on the blood question. Any thoughts?: is that effectively close enough to the more general answer of just "serum" or did the scoring algorithm see the intended answer in the first word and stop there? I couldn't tell ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Captain Kangaroo was really the first thing that crossed my mind for that question, although I did have misgivings since it aired at 8 am but I remember watching it as a kid. It seems like I would have been on my way to school at that time. I guess I'm remembering it from before I started school? I...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I am curious how many people who got San Francisco knew the question was about the Federal Reserve and how many just guessed a city in the West. It would have been a better question if the missing city had been Richmond or Cleveland. What's frustrating for me is that just several weeks ago in pub t...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I appreciate all the replies addressing my confusion :? over the apparent ease of the Bechdel question. ;) I put continuo for the basso question, but still managed to win. I said "continuo" too, which I didn't think was the answer being sought, but it's actually not that different, perhaps not as sp...
