Re: Matchy-matchy???

I think this is just an example of a clue that is at the intersection of two areas that are weak for most typical jeopardy contestants, fashion and pop culture. Fortunately those aren't weak areas for me. Now give me a classical music or opera clue and I am lost. For those who might not be lost.......

... He seems to know the material well, and though he speaks too fast you can pause and go back when needed.... You can slow down YouTube videos under Settings. (Not sure, though, whether that requires watching on a computer browser.) Speed up is also available. https://proxy.duckduckgo.com/iur/?f=...

Re: Matchy-matchy???

At least once a week it seems as if I run into a word or phrase that J! writers (and the scores of boardies that get it right) think is common, but I've never heard of in my life, making me wonder if I grew up in a different country and just didn't know it. I thought I reached my quota for the week...

66% league get rate and I'm still not connecting at all on "Sam Hill." (Sam Juan Hill I know.)

Except for an occasional "Die already!" popping into my head, I'm thrilled about not having thought about The English Patient in 20 years.

Re: TD 361 - Squares and Primes (BONUS RESULTS AND FINAL STANDINGS)

Which begs the question that maybe a TD historian can answer -- has a wrong answer ever been the sheep? Question #5 of TD 352 had 14 people submit the same incorrect answer - which was far more than the correct "sheep' response of 2. To answer the original question: that's happened many times. But ...

Very troubling. Stephanie is a real sweetie. I'm hoping that there's an innocent explanation to this.

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I figured that the city had to be in upstate New York on the Lake Ontario question, but I never even thought of Rochester and guessed Albany. I whiffed on this one, too, with Buffalo. I thought Buffalo was on Lake Erie rather than Lake Ontario, but for whatever reason I always thought of Rochester ...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I was surprised that Bayeux played as tough as it did, unless people just didn't know that that was the name of a diocese. Diocese, schmiocese. "famous" + "embroidered cloth" + "commemorate the victory of William the Conqueror". WECIB... provided you know of the tapestry in the first place. I figur...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

cheval/chevaux was a gimme for anyone who paid attention in French class Not for me. I couldn't remember if it was spelled chevaux or cheveaux and decided the latter version looked right. C'est dommage!! You mixed up the plurals for horse and hair (cheveux) Coming in at 36%, it was the toughest que...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread (MD6)

A few years ago, I read a biography of Boss Tweed. One of his notable adversaries was cartoonist Thomas Nast, who comes up from time to time on Jeopardy . Thomas Nast was the answer to question 1 of the Presidential Runners-up 1DS from 4 weeks ago. https://www.learnedleague.com/oneday.php?president...

Never in a million years would I have got those two - for some reason, I kept thinking Claudette Colbert in her version of "Cleopatra"!
That would have been a good guess.

Re: Inter-TD quizzing

Since it's already been suggested a few times.... Elizabeth Taylor was not nominated for Cleopatra. However, thinking outside of Britain will get you to two nominees, although they're both tough answers to come up with. She was nominated 5 times: Winning for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and BUtter...

Inter-TD quizzing

No new TDs are scheduled for the upcoming weeks, so to keep our quizzlings occupied, I'm starting a thread where we can pose individual TD-type questions, i.e. questions with multiple answers that we might find in a well-traveled TD-type category (... and given that we might not have enough question...
