Same here. 6(5)-6(5) tie because I put Barney FRANK for the TV show!
I would totally watch that.

For those too young to know, Barney Miller is best remembered for the epic bass line in the theme song.

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

Math is usually a hard category for LLamas, and I'm typically strong in math as a physicist.... But I don't remember ever hearing about the bridges of Konigsberg, and 30% of LLamas knew it. That strikes me as a high get rate for a topological math problem. Good job Llamas!

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

The midseason classic scores are frustrating : got nine correct, which is good, but moneyed one I got wrong (1951 poem with the word 'beat' in it makes me say Ginsberg, not Hughes), and so I tumbled to not help my league. Magnolia is suffering after losing some members due to expansion, as well as ...

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

And that "doge" question was my favorite in the history of the site. I didn't even read that last sentence, and now that you bring it up, I don't even know what it means. It's always nice to beat a TOC Champion. It was one of those days where I knew all 6 instantly. Now, when you read this, y...

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

The term "good-sounding" was way too weird not to be a giveaway. (Thanks, EugeneF, for your frequent lessons on the derivation of your name.) Congrats on the victory yesterday. I had Public Enemy typed and erased it to type NWA for no good reason. In my defense, there was no real name of "Charles" ...

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

Once again the "theater" question is code for "New York question". I realize that Broadway dominates American theater, but I find the meta-trivia about it (like this one, and naming the Broadway production company a few seasons ago) only accessible to New Yorkers. I was pretty proud of my guess of '...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2017--Round 6 Instant Replay thread (SPOILERS)

I figured that since Washington University of St. Louis was the only member of the Association of American Universities named after a president that I could think of (for some reason, I didn't think that the University of Washington was also an AAU member), I went with it. Greg, thank you for runni...

Re: MD10

Speaking of which: "(which would have been rather incongruous, considering)" – what incongruity was the Commish going for here? Hamilton's possible black heritage? Tearing the Union apart? (I favored the latter, but figured Stephens could be considered a Founding Father, as well.) My thought was th...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2017--Round 6 Instant Replay thread (SPOILERS)

I figured MUJason was referring to his own state with Washington U. I will be teaching the Compton effect this term, but had no idea where he was from!

Ugh. I had Cain typed in and chickened out - I might have ended with a perfecto!

Thanks for another amazing SHC!

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

Martin Scorsese has two equivalents to François Truffaut's Metro, Peter Bogdanovich's Picture Show, John Dahl's Seduction, Wes Craven's House on the Left, Tony Scott's Boy Scout, and Edward Zwick's Samurai. Name either one. I successfully recognized movie titles missing the first word "Last", and f...

Re: J! Scorer - A Coryat calculator and stat tracker

It would be really cool if (with the J-Archive's permission) all you had to do was enter the date of the episode and your app went to the archive and retroactively filled in the categories/questions. I'd love to be able to play on my phone while watching, and being able to use this data later withou...

Re: Learned League 74 - Official Thread

Is Jenny Holzer the Frankenthaler of LL74? It was one of those where I didn't even have a viable guess, so I just went with "Jones." Looks like it. Granted, I had never heard of her, Musa, either of those mnemonics, or Tidal, so what do I know? :) I'd never heard of either of those mnemonics myself...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2017--Round 6 Instant Replay thread (SPOILERS)

Wow. I am duly impresssd. I was worried that the naked mole rat was too obscure for even a 15 point clue, but it's high get rate argues otherwise. Either it's a better known critter than I was hitherto aware or you all follow Science magazine's "vertebrate of the year" competition a lot more closel...

Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2017--Round 6 Instant Replay thread (SPOILERS)

I think this may be the first summer hiatus challenge where I haven't had a perfect score day. The quiz is great and the scoring amazingly fair, but the difficulty of the harder questions has been creeping up.
