Re: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The secondary hint 'St. Jean Baptiste' is a bit more obscure than these normally are. ST. Jean Baptiste (St. John the Baptist) is the patron saint of Quebec, and the feast day (June 25th) is the big celebration day of Quebec each year.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

How are others finding this season difficulty-wise? Right now I'm up about 50 points on my historical QPct, so it's been easier than normal for me. Unfortunately my poor defense has left me mired in the bottom half of my rundle. I'm up about 50 points over my last two seasons. OTOH, LL as a whole i...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I was doubly lost on the dinosaur question: I figured someone characterizing reptiles may have first used the Greek word describing systematic organization of living beings. Then I couldn't dredge the word "taxonomy " from my brain, let alone get away from this concept and get to the right one. Then...

Re: Jeopardy on Drivetime app

I played the free J! game yesterday. It was ok - too easy (multiple choice). I went all Holzhauer on it and got a perfect score+all-in Final. There are fewer questions than a televised game, and easier. Their regular game is actually more fun (free new game daily). 21 questions on 3 themes, most mul...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Given all the clues in the question about Van Doren, how did that only play 14%? I knew it was the guy from Quiz Show - the posh New Yorker. I knew his last name started with "Van". I couldn't come up with the suffix. I said "Van Cliburn". I have since learned that "Van" in the pianist's name is hi...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

So can I expect to have any more days where all six questions fall into my hammerhouse? I am pretty sure I've never heard of exoplanet, any of those "Studio" shows, satyagraha, Daisy, or meeple and... oh wait, it DID accept just "Fargo". So that's 1/6. Still, what a tough batch of questions to star...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Like Jeff, I'm hoping the change to 'top 3 in A' go to the championship helps me get there... but looking back on my history, I've come 4th 4 times and 5th twice. Top 3 was selected just so it still will exclude me. Good luck everyone! Remember we will discuss the questions here ONLY once the result...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I failed to reach the required score for the first time in 12+ tests. Oof, that's rough. Sorry to hear that. Sorry, boson! Would you say we got the harder of the two tests they’ve been using at auditions this summer? Nah, I just had an off day and I'm not as good at trivia as I need to be (like 4 q...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

Had a great time at trivia nationals - except in the jeopardy contestant test where I failed to reach the required score for the first time in 12+ tests. Best of luck to the boardies and friends who did pass! I'm sure we will see some of them on TV soon. A certain LeeAnn Whitlock is a lock, given th...

Re: Trivia Nationals Prep

Thanks for doing this. As an aside, I'm thinking of organizing a Jboard social at Trivia Nationals, just a sort of "meet other boardies and have a drink or two" sort of event. Excellent- I was thinking the same. I also am very bad at connecting faces to names to online handles. If you don't mind br...

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

The Senate has confirmed Kelly Craft as the new Ambassador to the UN. The position has been vacant for 8 months following the resignation last year of Nikki Haley. Which means there is no US ambassador to Canada now, not there was much of a presence before. I think she'll be happier in New York: ac...

Re: Friday, July 26, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To see the alumni in attendance this video does the trick: https://youtu.be/LsmoStU2N4k At 0:02, it looks like James was in the audience; and if so it's a good thing they didn't show this until now because James' first two episodes aired at the time the last episodes of Season 35 taped. It seems li...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

After MD10 of Science, I was in first place but needed to win or tie MD11 in order to make the championship. I lost 4(3)-9(6). :x However... I entered Particle Physics and, for only the second time ever, got all 12 on a one-day! Ended up finishing in the 96th percentile. Kudos on getting Pauli. I n...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

I don't think there are going to be minileagues that line up better with my wheelhouse than "science through the ages". I'm proud of how well I did, but I'm truly amazed at the winners of the championship: there were 12 esoteric facts from a range of science disciplines and eras that the smiths aske...

I was hoping you were going to have a moustache pic....

Not nearly so fun. Best wishes for a speedy treatment and recovery.

Thanks for letting us know Harrumph - let us know if there is something we as a jeopardy community can do to help.

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

One other category of auditions will be those of we hopefuls who go to the audition in Las Vegas on Aug 10 during Trivia Nationals. I know for a fact that morbeedo and I will be there. Yup - I'll be there too! For those of us who haven't been able to get a sniff at an audition, attending Trivia Nat...
