Re: TCONA 8

Sign-ups for the Thursday Night "not-a-race" trivia competition are on, with teams of up to 6.

Anyone want to join me on an all-jboard team?

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

I was already having a terrible season at that point in my C rundle and had figured out that I had no business in the Rundle in the Jundle, but it was too late to do anything about it. My desire to do LL at that point was at low ebb. The best thing I can say is that I did not forfeit, did not cheat...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

I was wondering just how bad I had it with 121 correct answers against: the answer is not nearly as bad as some. FergusonL27 (A Summit) had the misfortune of 129 correct answers against this season. Ouch.

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

Two records for me: most correct answers (119), but unfortunately also most correct answers against (121). Sigh.

Congrats to the champs! Way to go teapot37 and Vermonter!

Re: Thursday, July 5, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I lost out on a coin flip between Stowe and Alcott on FJ. What a dumb clue. At least we missed with Americans. Steve clearly had a Brit and I wonder if Suzanne was heading towards Jane Austen? Hope it was not (Shirley) Jackson. I had Stowe and changed it to Mary Shelley at the last second. I know "...

Re: LL BWA Entries

So, I just saw that for the I _____ the Body _____, someone put Jesse and Ventura. How does that not get a BWA nod? If you you ever needed proof that Thorsten has zero sense of humor, I give you exhibit A. BWA's probably dead. Haven't seen one all season. So this now is listed as a BWA, and (as pre...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

Since I had a certain Skype interview where it came up that I was in first place in an A Rundle, I have gone 1-10-3. It's almost like I kicked Alex in the shins before the episode started. Yeah, I've gone 0-4 to drop out of leading that A rundle over the last 4 games. My last game in first place? B...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

My chance to win an A rundle evaporated a few days ago... losing 3 days in a row will do that. My schedule was back-end heavy, facing the current top 3 in Magnolia on days 22,23 and 24. I'm having my best season ever - on track for 120 correct answers. This is way above my previous average. Congrats...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

I moneyed 3 wrong answers (Rutgers for Purdue, Darnay for Carton, Cherry for Raspberry) and missed Joan of Arc by 2 years (1410!), said Agnew instead of Rockefeller. No chance on the various Davids...

I ended up in the 24th percentile. Ugh. Sorry Magnolians, I was a long long way from helping.

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I've always thought I was a pretty good J! player (after all, I've passed the contestant quiz, um, several times). But living in the same galaxy as guys like Ken Jennings and Roger Craig is an excellent way to stay humble. And this thread---with a for-God's-sake web-based video on how to study for ...

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I auditioned in Atlanta and got the call this week. I am still shocked! Taping on July 24th!! I have just joined jboard so I was hoping somebody could point me to a thread that discusses highest-yield prep strategies. I tried searching but it seems like I was just pulling one-off comments from rand...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

If Thorsten keeps bringing questions about semiconductors and cryogenics, I'll soon have to ask him to stay for dinner. Next week: questions about my son's ball hockey results.

(just to help you all out, they are in fourth place in their league).

I took the online test for the first time on March 7th. I got an email about 10:30 last night inviting me to the New York City audition on April 25th. Looking forward to the experience!
Today I got THE CALL!
Yay!

I hope mid-July travel is simpler from the Rock!

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

As someone who has worked in cryogenics for over 25 years, and has used liquid nitrogen to cool beers on occasion, I was happy to drink a cryogenic beer yesterday.

(note: don't use liquid nitrogen to cool beer, it's too easy to freeze the beer. But, desperate times call for desperate measures. )

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

I owe an apology to my opponents yesterday: I tied patkav 6(3)-6(5) and beat trainman 6(3)-3(3). I missed both the science (bacteria) and math (witch of Agnesi) question which, quite reasonably, they assigned 0 and 1. It feels like fraud to make you assign 2 or 3 points to the stuff I actually knew!...

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread

It took until my 337th career match day, but I finally drank my first beer. Roots was an educated guess and the wording of the Figaro clue threw me a little bit at first, but I kept telling myself that I was pretty sure that that was the opera that Count Almaviva was from. I was 100% sure on the ot...
