Re: HQ Trivia

I had the first game where an extra life would have helped yesterday... Missed Q11 and knew Q12.

Considering the format, I think the questions are very well written. For now I'm happy to give them 15 minutes a day. I'm surprised they haven't tried to monetize yet though.

I was already typing up my condolences for your Vikings, Mark. What an ending!!! Good luck next week 8-)
I turned on this game just before the final field goal and watched to the end with my kids. They are now football fans.

Re: FJs for the 1/8/18 week

As the first one posting to have seen it : Manchester by the sea is an excellent movie - a great study of grief. It is sad, but not depressing.

Re: Thursday, January 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

While I didn't remember Amazon distributing Manchester by the Sea, I was fairly certain it wasn't produced by them because if Amazon (co)produced Manchester, someone from Amazon would have been up for sharing the Best Picture Oscar, and I know I would have remembered that. Well, maybe you would hav...

Re: Thursday, January 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Either way Rebecca gets to play again even if she had no idea on the FJ! clue and was in no way thrown by the wording. Yeah, no kidding. Considering she didn't write anything down, I doubt she thought " Manchester by the Sea ? No, it was merely DISTRIBUTED by Amazon, not PRODUCED!" Welp, I, for one...

Re: Wednesday, January 10, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

If you are going to miss FJ based on the category, then wagering 0 is the most reasont bet, no matter what place you are in. If you have zero chance of answering correctly you wouldn't have been there in the first place. Zero wagers have merit in certain situations, this is not one of them. No smil...

Re: Wednesday, January 10, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I would have wagered zero to begin with and had a lovely doodle for the world to see had I been up there. Interesting wager from second or third. Or first for that matter. Sounds like to some of you anagrams of senator is Jeopardy treason. 8-) 8-) 8-) Have a heart, Golf; give them a chance to be at...

Re: Wednesday, January 10, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

What depths of hell did this FJ come from? Wordplay and current senators? yuck. I know there will be people on this board who will get it right, but on the show this FJ is a triple stumper nine times in ten. I would have wagered zero to begin with and had a lovely doodle for the world to see had I b...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Sometimes there is a 1 day special that is too close to your expertise. For the condensed matter physics 1ds yesterday there was no possibility of pride in winning - only shame if I missed something that Ive been researching and teaching for 20+ years. Fortunately, I only missed the food question, a...

Re: HQ Trivia

If it is free to play, how do they pay for the prizes? The people who are behind HQ are the same ones behind Vine. It’s probably being funded by Vine money. But what’s in it for them? There were 500000+ people on the last few days. A few 30 second ads while you wait will have a lot of eyes on them.

Re: LL BWA Entries

I think adding a crowd-sourced voting to best wrong answer attempts would be fun. I laughed at none of these this time (though some previous ones selected by Thorsten were funny to me). Abstain.

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Back to the questions: for MD25 Q4 it started: "The salient in the German front lines..." I had never heard of the term "salient" as a noun. It apparently means: noun 1. a piece of land or section of fortification that juts out to form an angle. I guess that was meant to be a clue to "battle of the ...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

Despite losing my last match, I will be moving up a level and joining other boardies, including my referrer -- hi, boson! -- in A Magnolia next season. First time ever over 100 CA, so we'll see if I can stay in A or not. :) Woohoo! Congrats! For what its worth, I've done far better in A than I ever...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

So are we cheering on any boardiellamas to win their rundle or stave off relegation on this last match day? I don’t know if anyone would be inclined to cheer for me but after having spent so many seasons in D I was elated to go to C this season because I always felt I belong in C. However I’m curre...

Patkav needs only a win or tie (or a loss by 2nd place) to sew up A Magnolia. Go Pat!

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

I'm surprised at all this hate directed toward The English Patient. I was lukewarm on the movie, but I did appreciate Michael Ondaatje's novel. Yeah, I would probably appreciate it more now, but I was slightly less sophisticated than my current urbane self when I tried last. Now please excuse me wh...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

"Sam Hell" was accepted, although why I changed it from Sam Hill just before submitting will forever remain a mystery. I said Sam Hell as well, and that is what I had always heard. I'll listen more closely to the next movie with unnatural dialogue that has the term. I messed up on the Frankfurt que...

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread

WLT Ethel Merman? Why would anyone be able to dissect a critique from almost 60 years ago to lead to one specific person, since different people have different opinions of everybody. I totally don't understand it. And no, I'm not trying to get a "Cat Hammarskjold education" thread started. I'm just...
