Re: Friday, February 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

If, indeed, there was a guaranteed play of all 60 J! and DJ! Round clues (I hadn't heard that, but it would make sense), then the stalling was pointless in addition to being annoying and (mildly) harmful. But yes, killing the DDs is an okay strategy when you are in the lead and have confidence that...

Re: Friday, February 22, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was able to watch this game today without being spoiled - I guess Jeopardy hasn't quite risen to the level of a major sporting event, so that avoiding facebook and twitter is enough. Great game! Some impressive play from Alex - dominating the buzzer with Pam and Brad. I'm trying to figure out the ...

Re: Wednesday, February 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I loved Brad's bit about using email and worrying about it getting hacked. I'm sure all the Sony producers were cringing at that one.

Those of you who fast forwarded through the interviews missed some fun.

Re: Wednesday, February 20, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I feel for Colby: he was against 2 of the fastest buzzers ever. He did well, but that team is in trouble - he'll have to face the same opponents in DJ in day 2. I like the chats and background strategy. I also like the Sass and trash talk... Team Austin all the way, if only for that. DJ in this game...

French:
Manon Lescaut
Madame Bovary (are titles ok?)
Cyrano de Bergerac
(and therefore Roxanne)

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

"The first round of play consists of two two-game matches played over three shows." Ummm, what? Why would you do that? Presumably there will be more chatting. I think J! is pretty proud of these all stars, and will have longer interviews and retrospectives on their lives (like what they have on the...

I picked DC for my audition city - it worked for cmp146. Hoping for my third audition (98 DC, 08 Toronto, 19?).

Absolute zero is - 273.15 C. If you convert the truncated number you get something different than the exact number.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Thanks... I don't think I'll ever win one of these 1DSs: I taught thermodynamics for several years (not by choice - but my penance is done) and knew all 12 quickly. I couldn't quite get the moneys right. The wording on the first law of thermodynamics question was odd, and confused me at first, so I ...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Missed the first question of electromagnetism, and missed my first chance to win a 1ds. I knew it was Oersted who first deflected a compass with an electric current, but misplaced him in Sweden, not Denmark. Lost to first place by 15 points. I know I can't tell those languages apart : I watched seas...

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

And yet, an offensive player won the MVP. Julian Edelman had 10 catches for 140 yards for the Patriots. But shouldn't someone on the defence that stopped the rams from doing anything have won?

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I would have known two in the France final: the Olympic cities and Brillat-Savarin. And the latter one only because I watched a crap-ton of Iron Chef back in the day. Yeah, I should have had both of those - they were the only ones I was close to (said Val D'Isere instead of Grenoble for the third o...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Despite scoring well enough during the regular season in the France minileague to have won over half the groups, I got a big fat goose egg (oeuf d'oie?) in the final. There were some deep cuts and obscure facts answered by llamas on that one.

Meant to say Blair, said Brown thinking of the Clinton era Labour guy.

Know of the ruby yacht of Omar Khayyam, but connecting the line of poetry with them is another thing. (Hence the posting here to cement the memory. Sorry Pam, not longhand ).

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

A whopping 2% for John Kalodner in the RnR ML. Whoever he may be. And that was my industry and my timeframe. And my Ozzy Osbourne MCWA guess scored higher than the actual answer(s). He sure looks like Rick Rubin, the guy behind the Beastie Boys, but the music listed wasn't them, or related. I said ...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I knew from the sample questions that the France minileague was going to be tough... but ooh la la.

Not so proud of my 0(1) - 1(1) loss, but I'm not alone. Check out some of the groups, like group 1: https://learnedleague.com/mini/france/i ... p?mltabs=0

Re: Thursday, January 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The headshake at young people today was crickets heard for Fibber McGee’s partner. The Christie play also going TS surprised me more as that appeared in a clue last season. Watch the show people. It helps. I have zero idea how 'Fibber McGee' triggered 'Molly' in my brain. Seriously. None. And yet I...

Ok - no inside information here, so let's speculate.

How about: someone who bet more than they had in final?

Rundle in the Jundle update: The private rundle for JBoardies is coming down to the wire: Teapot37 is leading with 34 points and a 42 match point differential. In second place is SwanShadow with 33 point and a match point differential of 32. The winner of this match wins the rundle! I was hoping bei...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Thank you, Patkav, for generously missing stamp collecting and allowing me to not be relegated this season. It will give you a chance to avenge yourself next season! I have never heard of Quinn Martin. The weird "QM" names I came up with were quite marvelous. I also couldn't remember the name of the...
