Re: Should the Teen Tournament Winner Get a TOC Invite?

In most cases the teen tournament winner will be blown out of the water at the TOC... but not always. I've seen teen high school quizbowlers who could definitely be competitive and some who could win the whole thing. We've seen the same with college and teacher tournament winners - most are weaker t...

Re: HQ Trivia

Ugh, I made it to tonight's final round question. I knew Susan B. Anthony was the "obvious" answer, so I went with Martha Washington. Pocahontas would have netted me $59. I made it there, too. I was sure that Martha Washington was the first woman pictured on US currency, but some Googling after the...

Fun trivia fact that may come up on the show sooner or later: Leonard Maltin played the title character in Groundhog Day.
I don't even know what this means. There is no title character... Do you mean Maltin played the groundhog?

Re: FJs for the 10/22/18 week

That Mar-a-lago clue messed up a remarkably good run of FJ success for me. I last missed on October 2nd (Ben Affleck oscar question). I got lost on this one, missing the clues, and ended up answering Guantanamo bay. Not exactly the warm weather retreat Trump prefers.

Re: HQ Trivia

Confetti Canada just launched yesterday - check it out on Facebook, Canadians! Only about 200 people played yesterday and today, and winners split $5000 (US currency, for unknown reasons). Get in now while the ratio is good! I won $300 (in proper loonies) yesterday answering 10 easier-than-hq questi...

I actually remembered to create the private rundle with time to spare! Rundle Name: Rundle in the Jundle 8 Registration Code: readytorundle Thanks! For the benefit of Canadians:

The Canadian version of "Confetti" will debut on Facebook Watch at 5:30 PM Eastern on Monday, October 15.
Oof - that is an awful time. I am typically mid commute or scrambling to feed my kids dinner then.

Re: What Determines For Whom You Root on Jeopardy?

I watch Jeopardy the way I watch sports. I root for people I know or who have some connection to me... But largely I root for amazing stuff to happen: I want to be awed by how much stuff the contestants know; by how fast they are on the buzzer. I am impressed with daring bets on daily doubles, and b...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

Had a long bus ride and hours watching kids at the skating rink this weekend, so I had plenty of time to do the anagrams. I got them all, and was one imperfect money from tying with dozens of others for the win. It was fun, but a few had me pulling my hair out - I had nothing on the Turkmenistan que...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I'm guessing the first 8 games will be to decide which 3 teams play in a 2-game final. First 8 games: each team plays round-robin style and has 4 games. That sort of works, but a round-robin tournament for 6 teams in 4 games doesn't work out evenly I don't think. I started doing the math on this, a...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I never watched David Madden play, so I have trouble handicapping him... However, Brad picked the two professional trivia writers in the field. That looks to be the team to beat to me. Having the best player of all time as the captain helps. Other than that, I can't predict too much without the form...

Congrats to Schliemann and the other TOCers - very impressive all round! Thanks to rjaguar3 and the team - another stellar run of questions.

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

Brutal day yesterday. I was lucky to get 4 - I said "Milne" for the two-movie Christopher Robin question. I was thinking of A.A. - not his son, so another point proving you should just give the last name if permitted. It wasn't enough though, as my opponent got 5 and correctly knew I would miss the ...

Great job Susannah! I might have tried the 250k question:
SpoilerShow
"iso" means same "morph" means shape? That seems pretty close to right. Sad trombone.
Does anyone have a link to today's "B" game? acthomas - great start on yesterday's show! I want to see the end.

Cheap trivia resources - support charity

I'm a big fan of the "humble bundle", which started out selling independent video games cheaply with the proceeds going to charity. I sometimes buy bundles of e-books from them - where the money can be directed to different charities. This week's bundle is titled "Trivia Champion": https://www.humbl...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

Midseason Classic: I got 11 right: somehow I read the "Most german speakers in a city outside Germany" to mean "outside of Europe" and I was completely stumped, but went with a lame guess of Buenos Aires. Why I moneyed it is another question with no good answer. Even if I had all 12 right, I wouldn'...
