The hair needs more volume in the 80's figure, but it's cool anyway.
Bah, have to roll the dice to get the mustached variant. Not a fan of Funko doing that. Their latest Goose had two variants as well, with the cooler (IMO) one a rare random.

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

James is one of the most dominant players on the buzzer, and it's key to his success, but there (in fact, here , for the most part) are people who have been (slightly) more dominant on the buzzer: Ken Jennings, Joon Pahk, Jerome Vered, Brian Weikle, Michael Dupee. (The last three were limited to fi...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

As we've already seen many times before this, a deep knowledge base is worth rather little if you never get called on to answer. I know handling the signaling thingy is part of the game, but I hate to see it become basically the whole game. It's always been the whole game. It just becomes more prom...

Re: Wednesday, April 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Amazing. It doesn't even seem like the same game. Like the doped up Lance Armstrong vs the tour de France 20 years ago. Lkke Usain Bolt vs a high school sprinter. Like Ken Jennings in dominance. More like Tom Brady or Steph Curry...people seem to be getting sick of all the winning now... Like that ...

Big area in Russia 10,000 sq. mi. ==/== "big area" (The UP in MI is 16,000+ sq. mi.) It is if you have zero clue how big 10,000 square miles is. That could be the size of Mars, Minnesota, Monaco, or Merdian Mall. 100 miles*100 miles =10,000 square miles. But how long is 100 miles?! It could be any ...

Re: So...what have we learned so far from James Holzhauer?

Yeah, if you buzz in too early, doesn't it lock you out for...what is it, 3 seconds? Also, why DOES it lock you out? I'm not fond of that. It's not that long https://www.jeopardy.com/jbuzz/behind-scenes/how-does-jeopardy-buzzer-work If a contestant attempts to ring in before the gameboard lights ac...

So this particular event likely won't become a clue, but the overarching scandal might now get large enough to warrant a country name drop. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-47965867 Former Peruvian President Alan García has died after shooting himself as police arrived at his home to a...

April 15, 2019, Notre-Dame de Paris is ablaze and it doesn't look good. If it's not going to be a total loss of the cathedral, it's going to be very close to it. Looks like 2/3rds of the roof and the spire (which was itself a restoration put in place back in the 1800s) are gone, but most of t...

Didn't know there was a 2018 TV version of "Fahrenheit 451", so I immediately dismissed it and figured it had to be another Liederkranz. Why even guess when I'm absolutely positively unmistakably certain that I am wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong? Doesn't being so frequently wrong mean that sometimes ...

TIL Cats doesn't perform Growltiger's Last Stand anymore. It's been replaced with The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles (and the lyrics of Gus, the Theater Cat have also been changed accordingly)

Stratolaunch, the largest plane measured by wingspan (and passing the Spruce Goose), had a successful maiden voyage. It was originally announced by Paul Allen (cofounder of Microsoft, now deceased) and Burt Rutan (SpaceShipOne) The plan is to use it as a 35,000 foot launch pad for rockets. https://g...

Roses would've been a DD get

If '1939' was omitted from Monday and the rest of the clue remained, I would've gotten it. "Jerry Maren" alone would not have been enough, though.

The two younger contestants got it wrong. The older contestant (and this older person) got it right. I sense a correlation.
Not much older than James here and I got it, though I did initially think Madonna before quickly realizing, "No, music videos don't sell like that. At all."

Re: Wednesday, April 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

On the surface, this was an easy FJ. But to solve involves combining a fact from 6th or 7th grade history with a skill from 3rd grade arithmetic, and how near in the brain do those two areas lie? I didn't know Romanov was the family name until I read From Russia With Love and I would've been in hig...

Barely squeaked by with 37. Would have done better except for a couple of inexcusable brain farts - added an extra "n" to "buccaneer", which DQ'd the answer given the category (it took me a few seconds to come up with the answer, and then I rushed it...but when the category is "9-letter words" and ...
