New apple type: Cosmic Crisp (Hi, bottom row of an alliteration category) https://thetakeout.com/cosmic-crisp-apples-have-hit-the-produce-aisle-but-onl-1839227721 It is supposed to be as flavorful as a Honeycrisp, as disease-resistant as an Enterprise, and as easy to store as a Red Delicious. Re: Thursday, December 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Why is it that celebrity read clues need to have like twice the words of normal clues? I guess when they get someone like Jeff Goldblum they feel like they need to get their money's worth or something. The strangest thing about Goldblum wasn't that he read the clues slowly, but just the odd cadence...

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

Meh, I'm phrasing it more like an FJ thread clue but it belongs here more. In 2019, Chief Fire Controlman Lauren Bruner became the last person interred here after having escaped it 78 years prior. USS Arizona ; I wanted to do it without the years but not sure how TOMmy 'CFC' alone would be for Navy ...

On "Tiger Talk" for $1000: Am I the only one who heard Jennifer say "the lady AND the tiger" instead of "the lady OR the tiger"? I was really expecting a reversal there. Clue didn't ask for the title, just the two components of said title, so either conjunction works: An 1882 short story by Frank S...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Playing from the sidelines. I opted for Plath over Dickinson, but in retrospect, I should have gotten it because of the "Yellow Rose of Texas" rule. I never knew why turbinado sugar was called that, but I figured it out. My Pop Music score isn't so good, but I'm 58 so "Soul Train" was an instaget. ...

When Alex mentioned the correct composer I knew two things, I was wrong, and who it was. If I had used the right path of thinking of someone with a "list of his amorous conquests" then I could have gotten there with a Don Juan/Casanova road.

What in the name of Merv Griffin is going on with these contestants? Just because you happen to know enough to win a game from the fourth podium doesn't mean the contestants are terrible. These boards have felt tougher post-ToC and I think your comments are disrespectful. I respectfully disagree. I...

Any reason I should know that German salad is made from potatoes? It's not German salad, it's German this salad, or German ___________ salad. The foodie route to the answer is to know what German _____ salad distinctively uses vinegar. Which doesn't help since I have literally never heard of German...

I am SO glad I didn't discard "Prussian" after the count and kept trying to cram it into seven letters. (Took about 5 minutes. Lotta kerning work.)

Star Trek writer/editor D.C. Fontana dies at 80. I wouldn't be surprised if a J! clue gives "D.C." and asks for her full first name (Dorothy -- D.C. stands for "Dorothy Catherine"). Oh heck no. That said, they DO like giving what initials stand for as a clue for the surname e.g., http://j-archive.c...

Would they have accepted "Zosa" for "Xhosa?" I would've gotten it for sure if it were an FJ, but pronouncing it is another matter. Considering that the first sound in the word is supposed to be a click and that I don't think the writers expect that of the contestants, I can't imagine they'd neg any...

And what a game it was! The poll creation tab allows up to 16 questions and that's exactly how many triple stumpers we had. Of course, one wasn't convertible because the contestant's response was accepted and later reversed. I'd consider operetta ( ) and raptor ( :( )available as trash si...
