Re: A Math Question

Who cares about the math...I want to know why one can't sex a chicken?...Or is trying bound to get somebody in trouble these days...?... ;) Actually, chicken sexing is a big thing. You don't want cockerels (which grow up to be roosters since they can't lay eggs), so common practice is to take the d...

Re: Poll on Boardies Covid-19 Impact

I went with sometimes because I have been dining in since the brewery reopened and that's more 'public.'

If it was just off outside >6' away from someone, I'd still say 'always'. I also don't wear it in the car while driving.

Re: 2020 Current Events Discussion Thread

This is not really a poll. It's more of an informal query, but I welcome any feedback, private or public. Although as a freelancer I'm busier than ever during the pandemic, I have somehow also managed to be in a position to catch more news as it happens and post appropriate items to the Current Eve...

Re: A Math Question

Wouldn't the individual probability of each subsequent fowl not being a rooster change though, and thus the overall probability of not picking a rooster be dependent on number of fowl? Example: If there are 20 hens/roosters to begin, there are 4 roosters and 16 hens. Say you've picked a hen to begi...

Re: RIP Carl Reiner at 98

I'm not sure how easy it is to confirm this, but Carl Reiner might have been the last surviving cast member of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. If you believe iMDB, they already did the work... With the death of Mickey Rooney on April 6, 2014, no surviving members of the main cast are left. Since t...

Re: A Math Question

My wife decided to buy chickens. She is hoping she doesn't end up with a rooster. She said the lot of birds the store gets their supply from claims 80% are hens. Since she bought 4 birds, I think the odds are 625:1 that one of them is a rooster. Am I correct? Trying to dust the cobwebs off this par...

Didn't the BWA duty get crowdsourced this time?
Yes. They still picked one of the lamest ones to win, though.
They can't all be winners, but still a better ratio this time.

Where are the BWAs being posted?
https://learnedleague.com/thorsten/vote.php?vbwa&85
First time I can remember that I felt like there were more I would vote for than number of ones I could vote for. Some were actually funny.

Welp, nothing I can do to avoid being relegated...stupid monkey's paw. My fault was making my entire goal to pass my D-rundle win total. Nothing about not getting relegated.

Can't say I recall hearing of herbes de Provence. Why was that so well-known? I knew the question sounded familiar, but couldn't place it or the answer. Shoulda just taken a guess on some area in France ("herbes"). Mid-Season 68/1: https://learnedleague.com/oneday.php?classic_68. Four years ago, bu...

When I saw this one in yesterdays NYT Sunday crossword, I thought it could make a good FJ:

U.S. GEOGRAPHY

It's the only state capital that shares no letters with the name of its state.
Spoiler
Pierre, South Dakota
Ooh, nice...but needs narrowing down somehow; it's not a 30 sec clue.

THE WEST COAST Approximately 750 feet separate the brass and terrazzo monuments to these two US presidents. Who are Reagan and Trump? (Hollywood Walk of Fame) I don't think I'd be off-base complaining about the choice of the word "monument" here. It struck me as odd too. But what word would you sug...

Yeah, I've got to accept I'm getting relegated...five games of glory...15 of massive beatdown. 97 correct answers against -and four games still to go- so my ..."record" of 105 is easily going to get stomped.

Yep. No crowd shots either.

You had to know what to look for to notice. The staff also had on blue gloves during the FJ cutaway, another subtle touch.
