Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

*sigh* read...the...clue...
"adjacent?" "opposite?" That's tangent! *loses because of it...well, that or defense, being better at either would've been enough...*

And now I'm in the red.

Re: Learned League 89 - May/Jun '21

I had "wickets" for about 21 hours, but then I remembered they were in croquet, and why would be in both games? They aren't very similar. I was glad to see a clue about Ian Botham. My first visit to UK was 1986 and it was still in mid-century form. The sportswriting was like 1920's Ring Lardner pro...

So I'm wondering where the writers got "overstory" from... ( Just below the overstory, this area of a tropical forest is home to the spider monkey & the sloth ) I was watching WWTBAM today while waiting on my tire installation and they had a question about the uppermost layer of a forest: Canopy, E...

I said whiskey instead of bourbon but I'll count it.
I'd BMS it, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise

Evan Williams didn't get the bourbon question. Boo, hiss. Also, not usually one to go, "Hey, that looks like..." but Evan might as well have the last name Potter...(or Radcliffe). Got stuck on variants of 'moon' on FJ. Not a fan of those where if you get on the wrong track you're out of luck...

Acclaimed American actor and singer Paul Robeson, whose international fame was established via his performance of "Ol' Man River" in Show Boat, was also closely identified with what Shakespeare character, whom he portrayed in London (1930) and on Broadway (1943)? Is there a TOM I am missing here th...

At least my non-dextrous brain didn't cost me the win. I really would've been upset by that: knew the trick, I've answered it before, and maybe if I spent all day on it...but my luck Michael C Hall would've done something yesterday and come across my feed and ruin it all if I waited...

No one knew the writer of the Rubáiyát? I am appalled! :) I know him as the owner of a corundum pleasure boat...he wrote poetry too?! RubyYacht.jpg Whisky was begging for a verbal BMS rather than an extended pause... LF crossed my mind but refused to consider it as it's primarily an economic term. ...

I just went to the LL page to remind myself of the questions and there’s a notice in a red box that I may have submitted my answers too late although it lists my submission time (correctly!) as 10:28pm EST. I hope it’s just a glitch as I got either all 6 correct or 5/6 if baking soda isn’t similar ...

Do we have a 2032 Current Events thread yet? Brisbane (Australia, not California) may be next month named the host for the Summer Olympics eleven years from now.
Assuming there's still an Olympics. And/or an Australia. And/or a 2032.

What the heck was supposed to help you to get to Sopranos? I looked it up after the fact, and the only character name in the titles is someone who never appears and is never mentioned again. Apparently, there are well known Pine Barrens here in NJ (I'm right near the areas represented on the show) ...

Judges: son for lad? :?: I think the category was the actual answers to the first crossword puzzle, so I don’t think alternatives would be acceptable. One day I'll stop referring to it as the 'Diary of Nat Turner' ...no idea why I can't shake that one loose.
