Re: Wednesday, July 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Idle thought:

How many games have you seen over the decades of Jeopardy! in which one or more contestants (including winners) finished their games with scores in the vicinity of $13,600? Or...what Matt had at the first commercial break?

Impressive. Very impressive.

Re: Monday, July 26, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

LeVar Burton got his shot. He's lucky he has four more tries as the first attempt was less than smooth. If Matt could have just spit out the name on the Panama clue it would have helped a lot. Besides host business there is Patrick finishing at minus 7400. Ouch, what a nightmare. Matt led by 11400 ...

Danged Brit lit. Something of a hole in my knowledge base. And this week it cost me.

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

The announcement for the permanent host will come when it comes and it will be immediately national news everywhere. If that person is really one of guest hosts, with no one else under consideration, then a second hand is not needed to count the possible choices. Which of the guest hosts do we thin...

Re: Thursday, July 22, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Matt is getting his PhD in AI. Presumably why he was hunting in the likeliest spots. He also has an interesting affectation of answering with "What" or "What's" each time, no matter whether the response is a person, place, or thing. I can only surmise he does that so he has one less thing to think ...

OK, cue the "Twilight Zone" theme music.

Just before this evening's game, I was watching an old movie on AMC despite having seen it before. Had to cut away and miss the last 1/2 hour to catch J!.

The flick? Yep. Alien.

Wish all the FJs could be this insta….

Re: How Did Sanjay Gupta Do as Host?

How many times can I say "Meh?" Maybe I'm just getting weary of weeing these prolonged auditions. Everyone has been OK, with solid, experienced TV chops and good stage presence. Nobody has jumped out at me since the show's producer was on right after KJ. Pardon me for not remembering his name, since...

Re: Friday, July 16, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm not sure why I never heard of the famous Mazarin Bible, but I was not matching Gutenberg to a French cardinal... I'm not sure why ANYONE would have ever heard of the "famous" Mazarin Bible. But something that was "completed" in mid-15th century, with a "famous" copy owned by a cardinal, ...

Re: Wednesday, July 14, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A lot to like about Tyler, IMO. Good contestant, calm, unflappable, etc. I especially liked his description of being a tanker as "the best job I ever had." A lovely, if obscure quote from the movie "Fury," where Brad Pitt and his crew of tankers use their disabled tank to take the fight to an entire...

Re: Friday, July 2, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I have wondered how Courtney would do in the category of "FJ Wagering" if she ever went into final in third instead of in a commanding lead. Turns out she passed the test commendably. Many congrats to the champ on an excellent 5-days-in-a-week sweep. Meanwhile we had a clean sweep of all three conte...

Re: Wednesday, June 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Once again it helps to be "of a certain age." (OK, and to have a lifelong interest in space exploration). Valentina Tereshkova was the kind of instaget that made me wish someone had been watching the game with me, to be witness on this one. Nice, nice dominant win by the returning champ. Many congra...

Re: Monday, June 14, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I didn't like the wording of the FJ! clue. It sounded like the answer was looking for an expression, which was the way all three contestants, as well as myself, seemed to understand the clue. Laissez faire here. I'm with you on both counts. Put L.F. because (and only because) it was better than no ...

Maybe today's liquor category inspired it, but I propose a drinking game for Savannah's tenure: "You Got It!" 🍸

Lou Brock?
My guess is that the contestant heard "walks" (i.e. bases on balls) and conflated it with stolen bases, where Brock would have been a plausible guess.

Re: Tuesday, June 1, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

NHO the frog hair expression. :? I'd never heard of that or "one swallow does not make a summer" (which seems like a good candidate for a "that's what he said!" quip). Each area has its own seasonal visitor. San Juan Capistrano (IIRC, Southern California) is visited by the swallows each summer. Goo...

"Only" $9800 in Lach Trash tonight, after two nights in a row of $10K+. What's up this week that there are so darned many stand-and-stares on really gettable clues?

Re: Tuesday, June 1, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It's always refreshing to hear a contestant start their chit chat time without using the word 'So' at the begining of the first sentence. For that, I was rooting for Robin. There I thought I was all alone in being aggravated by this recent linguistic atrocity. (And yes, I was also rooting for Robin...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Mike Richards is executive producer of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! , and I'm sure Sony won't accept the disruption of Wheel that would occur if Richards took on extra J! duties. So, however he performed, he would be too risky to another valuable Sony property. Not going to get the permanent gig....

Re: Tuesday, June 1, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A lot of triple stumpers tonight. Nobody on that stage is TOC Worthy. ToC?!?!?! It's been a long time since I've seen three J! contestants leave this much gettable stuff unanswered. I scooped up an even dozen of them myself (possibly more: they came in such rapid order in DJ that it was hard for me...
