Re: Idle Question

If ranking were based on run differential, the Bills and the Cowboys would've had a bye week instead of the Titans and Packers How is that? Didn't the Bills and Cowboys both have a zero run differential? #1 There's always one.... #2 You HAD to drag my beloved Cowboys into this, didn't you!? ...

Idle Question

Why do you suppose TPTB seem to put so much emphasis on how many GAMES a contestant has won, rather than how much MONEY? Both are of course important in rating how good a run a player has. But if you gave me a choice between winning 6 games and $120,000 vs. winning "only" 4 or 5 but raking...

Don't know if this little detail helped any other viewers at home, but.... In the clue regarding Pasteur's development of a vaccine for "this disease," the document they flashed on the screen read in bold letters, "hydrophobia." If you know that's another name for rabies, well, t...

Ken opened with shilling duties for the Explore Alaska Sweepstakes which will go two weeks. The FJ! clue will have me all alone with a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I wrote theory of relativity and never once during think time realized how wrong I was even with the obvious staring at me. B...

Re: Monday, January 10, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

After blanking on Heyerdahl last week, I gave my brain the vacation it needed. I was rewarded with an almost-insta-get on Van Gogh. OK, it wasn't an absolute "I KNOW THAT!" but it all fit together and I was pretty solid on my choice. I'm pretty sure I'll never be a J! millionaire (or play ...

Let's see. 1. Norwegian. 2. Deep blue sea. 3. 1948. 4. Non-fiction.

And for all of that my brain never got around to Kon-Tiki or Heyerdahl.

I think my brain needs a vacation.

Really nice when they toss a FJ clue that is absolutely right up my alley. Kefauver was an instaget, and I would have named Sparkman as well if need be. Considering how many recent FJs have given me fits, I'm grateful for this one.

Re: Friday, December 31, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Don't know why, but when I read this clue, the first two people who fit the category name and who probably met in the 50s were Lennon & McCartney. I sort of thought there could have been any number of other reasonable pairs, but just stuck with them. So I end 2021 with a FJ get in a category tha...

I started with the articles and never once, ever thought for a second about the Fed. Papers. I am really sucking at FJ lately.

Re: Monday, December 20, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It's not bad enough that the Cleveland Browns game was postponed from Saturday to Monday because of how many bodies were unavailable due to Covid (as if the 2-day delay would get the team back to full strength), and it's not bad enough the game preempted J! (really, folks?), and it's not bad enough ...

Wait, What!!?? Quark is an adjective?? If that's true I certainly never heard it.

FWIW I said "subatomic" and felt pretty good about it, although as I read this thread I think "elementary" is a pretty good guess as well. But "Quark"?

Last week someone mentioned being on the wavelength of the writers. That is how it seemed to me for solving the FJ! clue as I smelled what they were cooking. MacArthur felt like 1940s & 1950s as relevant years to me and I did not think 1960s was the place to go, unlike the players. This is exac...

Of course the one week I finally get all three non-FJ clues in this poll is the one week I batch the FJs.

Amsterdam, Royal Society, and Velveteen Rabbit for Watership Down.

Many congrats to Amy for withstanding a rare (for her) serious challenge and hanging in there to win #10. Most impressive. I struggled with FJ for about half the Think Music time, then managed to piece together linguistically just enough to come up with the right response. Whew. Fun Fact: Cleveland ...

Game's running long, so I'll assume total pre-emption. I know French for rabbit is lapin, so that makes this pretty easy. Made it ridiculously easy for me as well. "lapine" is from "lapin," which means "rabbit," which leads unerringly to.....The Velveteen Rabbit. Wait,...

given that I live 100 metres from the Rideau Canal, this was a sub $200 clue. my kids feel extremely smart after getting this triple stumper FJ.
