Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

I knew Iliac = Hip (two reasons, Maestro Fresh Wes's line "so many suckers on my sacroiliac;" and my wife complaining about hers since she had kids) - and I thought the Iliad was about Troy, so I put Troy. Should've just kept it simple. Zamboni is offensively easy.

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

The bowling one took me a lot longer than it should've. I worked at *THREE* different bowling alleys as a teenager, but only one had 10 pin; and made it to the Canadian Youth Bowling team National Championships twice. The score for those rolls in 5 pin could've been so many things, since each pin is...

Also, that Whale video is an extremely formative part of my teenage years. I think yesterday's questions were written by a big 1996 MuchMusic fan.

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Beavis and Butthead is maybe my favourite TV show of all time. I was a 16 year old boy who wore metallica shirts already when it came out. I don't know if there's ever been an easier LL question for me.

Re: Trebek Obits and Appreciation Articles

I'm booked to go on one of my old CBC shows I used to help produce this afternoon to talk about this. If I keep it together I will be shocked.

Totally blanked on registering for the 60's ML. Oh well, I'll play along, 1st day was fun already.

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Loved how that Hank Williams clue could work either as pop music, sports or current events (and yet still played low...) And back up to The Show. Wasn't entirely mine to win, but I'll take it! (...for a season probably...is stressful up there with a TCA in the 90s...) Baffled that played so low. I ...

I expected a much higher get rate on Q1 yesterday (anchor). I can see putting "pundit," which was the MCWA at 14%, but that plus anchor at 42% gives 56%. I wonder what the other 44% came up with? This one seemed like a WECIB? type question to me.
Chief Correspondent was my guess.

I am deeply, deeply ashamed to have gotten the HNIC question wrong. It's probably the 'show' I've watched more than any other broadcast.

If it's a literature question I don't know, I almost always give it a 3. Worked yesterday.

Re: Poll on Boardies Covid-19 Impact

Mask wearing in Ottawa is fairly prevalent, this is a forward thinking city. My company has been hit VERY hard by this (I work in the aviation industry). So, I'm working from home (will be until Spring 2021 apparently), and have taken a pay cut. Have avoided layoffs so far, but only thanks to a big ...

So, why would I ever have heard of those bridges? Or been able to put them in Vancouver?
It helps a lot if you lived there for a decade and worked as a traffic reporter for a while.

Yeah, I’m getting slaughtered in A, as per usual. Got a win yesterday to move up to 27 from 28 out of 28.

Re: Learned League 85 - Official Thread

I could think of exactly one famous "american" sandwich. Cheesesteak it is. Wharton sounded like something from that area too. also, A Taiga is tearing me a new one this year. In my familiar relegation spot, waiting to go back to B. Is there a word for those of us that alternate rundles almost every...

I've got a great D % of ---, starting off with two 9 (6) s in a row against me. Love to be in A rundles all the time. Also, the hockey question could not have been more up my alley. Almost went with Andreychuk to be a smart aleck, but wasn't 100% sure on him. I had a poster of Brett Hull with a NOMA...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

All I'm saying is that while "Narita" certainly fits Japanese phonology, there are plenty of languages whose phonologies n-vowel-r-vowel-t-vowel can fit into. Saying "Narita" could be in any country is not as ridiculous as, e.g., saying someone with the name "Sigurdardottir" could be from any count...

I conflated Los Del Rio and Taco Del Mar. Would love to open up a Macarena themed Taco shop though.
