Re: Friday, July 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I loved seeing the Saturn V Instrument Unit. It saved the Apollo 12 mission. Astronauts wanted the Command Module to run the Saturn V rocket. While they had some options for control, the show was run from the Instrument Unit, not the Command Module. So when Apollo 12's Saturn V was hit by lightning,...

When Alex introduced the category THE 1600s, I was hoping he'd say "That was a good century" or similar. "You're too young to remember." I felt much older when I realized the contestants were born too recently to remember 9/11/2001. I didn't remember the members invoking the NATO article at the tim...

. . . My wife came up with "bullion" in place of 'stock'. You can invest in (gold) bullion, right? Perhaps the spellings are different. I'm watching it now and trying to check it out at the same time. bob The pronunciation is different too. Gold is bullion (BUHL-yun). Soup/stock is bouillon (BOOL-y...

I agree on the Ava swings taking too much of the contestant's time.
Rob Lowe is yelling 'Hurry up, little time left,' while Ava is casually making wide swings to the next clue.

Re: Thursday, April 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Augh, I had a DVR glitch. And tomorrow's game is being preempted in the NYC area by the NFL draft. Does anyone know if there is an alternate place I can watch? The local affiliate here doesn't rebroadcast when the show is preempted. Update: (and a correction!) WABC noted at the beginning of the NFL...

Mark's answer of 'eclipse' for the Transit of Mercury was correct. Mercury moving across the disk of our Sun as seen from Earth is a partial eclipse of the Sun.

I had no clue that Mariah Carey is from NY. Couldn't think of anyone. Oh yeah ... Star Trek???! I wonder if they were flashing to another Twilight Zone episode, also involving an aircraft, with William Shatner: "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet". It wasn't what the question asked for, but I recognized the ...

Right - I was running ocean kayaking routes in my head, since Australia's long rivers spend much of the year being dry.

I didn't think 'Amazon' for final jeopardy, since I thought the River was, in part, in the Northern Hemisphere. I'm still poring over maps to see if the delta is across the Equator. For what it's worth, the basin is partly in the northern hemisphere. Hey, all three got it right, so no harm, except t...

Having lived in New Jersey for many years, I had never thought of Pennsylvania as a 'landlocked' state, but I guess Delaware Bay doesn't count. I could note that Philadelphia is the 25th largest port in the USA in volume, and was a critical port in colonial days, but Pittsburgh is a larger port and ...

As an amateur astronomer, I was surprised that Galileo said Mars had phases like the Moon. I'm hoping NYC ABC-TV 7 will do the same. I don't see anything on the their web site or facebook page.

Right - the Priest puts wine and a small amount of water from cruets into the chalice at the offertory at the Mass. But to Catholics, 'holy' water is kept in a font at the entrance of the Church to bless ourselves and is also for blessing objects or people. But not in a cruet.

Just for what it's worth, we don't put holy water in cruets. (I'm Catholic, we use a font to hold holy water.) Of course, 'font' doesn't have five letters.

Thanks for finding the source of the graphic they used on the show. I didn't find it, I made it. I used a freeware program to convert that portion of the video into an animated GIF. I figured that was more fun than uploading the snippet to Youtube. Cool skill (not one I have!) Mars' speed relative ...
