Re: 2018 Current Events Study Guide

Joe Jackson has passed away: https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/27/entertainment/joe-jackson-obit/index.html Not to be confused with the guy who recorded "Stepping Out" (1982). Or the shoeless member of the Black Sox. Also not to be confused with J. J. Jackson, whose single "But It's Alright" hit the char...

For me, it was a toss-up between Pushkin and Dostoevsky. I chose poorly.

Key literary figures of the 1960s and beyond, both Philip Roth and Tom Wolfe died within the past seven days.

Re: Tuesday, May 22, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Can someone provide me with the wording on the Whistler clue? I don't see the justification for the judges' overturning their ruling on Hermine's response of "nuit." Nuit is indeed a French word for "night," but Whistler didn't call the paintings in question "nuits." He called them "nocturnes."

I don't remember the specific scene referred to in the FJ clue, but I did recall that Rhett was from Charleston. So that's what I went with.

As for Erika, she played well. But I sure hope math isn't one of the subjects she teaches.

Casablanca is my favorite film. My eyes well up every time Victor Laszlo orders the house band to play "La Marseillaise" in defiance of the Nazis who occupy Casablanca. Watch the entire scene here.

They skipped Raleigh from two rounds ago (was it two rounds or three...I think two)...
I remember. I had selected Raleigh as my city that year. Sure hope they don't skip Memphis this time around!

Re: POLL: A Hypothesis about Auditions

I think a better indicator would be go to an audition and see how many are local and how many are from far away. I seem to recall from my two that when they asked who came from the farthest away, not many people gave an answer. For what it's worth, twice I've been the person who traveled farthest f...

Re: POLL: A Hypothesis about Auditions

I have auditioned five times for the coordinators, though all occurred prior to 2013. I auditioned once near my home in Nashville, but that was following a Brain Bus mini-test. The four times I was invited after online testing, I was required to drive a minimum of three hours to the auditions — Port...

Whether or not Lisa's wager was "savvy," it's always good to see a J! player put real thought into his or her wager, not to mention demonstrate some decent math skills.

Buttered Popcorn is the top Jelly Belly flavor (according to Candy Store dot com), knocking last year's winner (?!) Black Licorice (?!?!) down to second. I'm ambivalent about Buttered Popcorn; I've had worse...like Black Licorice. I must confess that a Buttered Popcorn Jelly Belly has never failed ...

I thought this was tougher than the first night's test. Yet with some good guesses, I scored a 44, besting last night's official try in which I scored a 43.

St. Paul wrote "For now we see through" this "darkly; but then face to face" "Glass" was given as a correct answer. I said "mirror". Judges? Maybe it's because I"m more of a NIV person than a KJV person (although the rest of the quote doesn't match up in NIV), but I"m thinking of the title of one o...

For the "Think Different" clue, I wrote "Einstein" and then changed it to "Da Vinci," since that was Walter Isaacson's most recent biography. Oddly, I knew the clue was a reference to Apple Computers but forgot that Isaacson also wrote the Steve Jobs biography. But the mind can go in strange directi...

The rest of us on J!Board should collect our best omelette recipes in a cookbook and present it to TPH. At least then he'd be getting some protein, a couple of vitamins, and a few minerals to enjoy while watching J!
