Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

The GOAT tournament began taping yesterday, and all I know is that the set was slightly modified for the event, now consisting of darker colors for the backdrop (the starry background I think is the same one used on Wheel of Fortune).

Re: Tuesday, December 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Finally, we have a 5+ day champion for the first time in S36. Jason Zuffranieri's run started near the end of last season and continued into the third week of this season.

But congrats to Jennifer on her fifth win.

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

I think I remember Harry Friedman saying that road show costs have gotten a lot more expensive than they used to be, and probably there is not enough of a ratings gain to justify the cost. I forgot to mention the IBM Challenge being the only road show not taped in Washington DC after the CES set wa...

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

I also miss having road shows being held every season. In particular, the College Championship was always taped on a college campus. And sometimes, the Teen Tournament and Celebrity Jeopardy! were on the road. On two occasions, the ToC was taped on the road. But ever since the CES set became the pr...

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

Someone ought to make a website showing changes to the Jeopardy set from season to season On Game Shows Wiki, there's already an article about the evolution of the Jeopardy! set, and each section goes into detail about the minor changes made to each set during their respective runs. Also, the Jeopa...

Re: Monday, June 3, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I just hate he had to lose when he was so close to beating Ken Jennings cash earnings record. One or two more wins, he would have passed him. Even more unusual, his loss comes one day after the fifteenth anniversary of Ken’s first game and the fifth anniversary of Julia’s loss. Hopefully James will...

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

One thing that's not quite true: Jeopardy! hasn't remained exactly the same for its entire run. Besides the doubleing of clue values and mega-champs being allowed, there have been some temporary, one-off changes to tweak the format ever-so-slightly. 1) "BONUS" category. I can't access the database ...

I remember the change being made to having the players stay at their places, but I don't remember when it was.
It was Season 34 when contestants started remaining at their lecterns during the post game chat / end credits.

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

For a tradition to bring back I would nominate the yearly ToC. For whatever has caused the 2-year break pattern find a way to change things. Yes, for the staff it has to be extra work to work out everything from coordinated travel plans to sequester videos to sponsor participation to "harder" clues...

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

I miss the players walking out during the introductions. I was going to add that too. For the first season, the contestants made their entrances from in front of the game board. Then from Season 2 until the end of Season 7, there was an entrance arch in which contestants entered during the introduc...

Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

And these are things that have not changed gameplay in any way shape or form. I'm aware that the only two things that changed the game to some extent were the doubling of the clue values in 2001, and much more significantly, lifting the 5-day limit for returning champions (that set the stage for sup...

Congrats on Elise for her third win; and I think she has potential to becoming a 5-time champion, earning a spot in the next ToC.

Re: Besides Ken, Brad, and James, what other contestants could be considered GOAT?

I'll throw in a vote for Mike Dupee. Also Frank Spangenburg, Jerome Vered, Dan Melia and a few others. Probably all too old now to keep up - I know I certainly am not as quick to recall as I was. A lot of players who appeared on the show when the five-day limit was in effect were very well consider...

Besides Ken, Brad, and James, what other contestants could be considered GOAT?

Here's who I have in mind, and I will only be mentioning players who were on the show after the five-day limit for returning champions was lifted. Roger Craig — In the second game of his initial run, he broke the one-day record with $77,000 (which would be later broken by James Holzhauer). But more ...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

If James wins this event, and Ken & Brad get the $250,000 prizes for being runners-up, then James surpasses Ken for second-place for all-time winnings; but Brad would still hold first place as he would have accumulated $4.9 million. Another question I have is regarding the set they're going to use. ...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

I take it you're not a KJ fan? In a way I like James more than I like Ken and Brad, and that is because of his unique gameplay style in his original run. He would start at the bottom of the board, getting the $1000 clues first while bouncing between categories, betting aggressively on Daily Doubles...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

I definitely saw this coming, especially after Emma ended James's streak and especially now that James won his ToC. But initially I was anticipating another special tournament pitting James against Ken, Brad, and 12 other big champions whose original appearances occurred between Ken's streak and the...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

Who could possibly host this *but* Alex? That's why. Also, I wonder if the syndicated show will be in reruns that week? It would be odd to have two tiers going at once. 1) I can guarantee 100% Alex will be hosting this event. 2) That's a good question. But considering a lot of ABC O&Os and affiliat...

Re: It's happening!!! The GOAT Tourney, w/ Brad + Ken + James

to settle the question in the most equitable way. I know who I'm rooting for. I'm obviously rooting for James because we've already seen Brad win his ToC, the Million Dollar Masters Tournament, the UToC, Battle of the Decades, and the All-Star Games last season (he split the top prize with Larissa ...
