I don't understand the logic here. Whether they existed or not is irrelevant; they're considered one of the Seven Wonders.

Re: FJs for the 5/16/22 week

My vote for "For the Wednesday FJ! clue I knew the movie was Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I did not know the song." is not entirely accurate; I knew the song, I just couldn't retrieve it from my memory in time.

Re: 2022 RIP thread

Roger Angell, longtime editor and writer for the New Yorker, passes at 101. He was, IMHO, the best writer on baseball ever ("The Summer Game", e.g.), and he wrote two superb memoirs: "This Old Man" and "Let Me Finish". Highly recommended. Not too likely to show up on J...

Now if we could only get them to keep them on the screen for those stupid 'in' categories (today's was That's In Admissible!).

Re: Thursday, May 19, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I found these to be a very ugly and poorly written set of boards. :x At least FJ was straightforward. Which wonder had to do with water? Done. Well, both the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria also had to do with water. The Hanging Gardens did make more sense with 'mainta...

(If you're after an observation deck in Seattle, might I recommend the Sky View? It's cheaper AND higher up) Also, the Sky View Observatory gives you a good (if admittedly somewhat distant) view of what is arguably the most distinctive and recognizable feature in the Seattle skyline. This is not tr...

Another fun fact: The name of the curve is the Catenary curve (specifically the inverted curve formed by a weighted chain). I think EVERY math or physics book cites this when you first learn of the hyperbolic cosine function. Catenaries are frequently confused with parabolas, but they are not the s...

Re: Friday, May 13, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ryan's play late in the game would have been baffling if it weren't so common. DD3 at $1600 in PLACES IN THE BIBLE. Down $17200 to $12400 with Marie at $6200, with only the $2000 clue in the same category and the entirety of OPERA remaining. Not loving the category, he decides to "play it safe...

Meh. I'm guessing a lot of people who have seen the movie multiple times (myself included) missed this one.

If this polls above 20%, I'll be surprised shocked. I had the movie, but no way I was coming up with the character.

Churches and tabernacles are open to anyone, and there are far more of the former than the latter. Temples are open to anyone prior to being dedicated, but are afterwards limited to LDS who live the standards we believe God sets in order to enter his house. http://www.mormonmonastery.org/temple-tab...

Maybe someone more familiar with the situation would know, but would it even be possible to sing to soldiers in the DMZ? I know the meeting rooms are there in Panmunjeom, but are those actually in the DMZ and are regularly occupied by soldiers? I thought the whole point of a DMZ was to keep soldiers...

Re: Non-political Political Item of Interest - J vs WOF

WOF airs in D.C. at 7, J! at 7:30. Is that on a DC station, or maybe a Baltimore station? Is there an OTA way to see Jeopardy before Wheel in DC? As Fleeboy said, that's the DC station. It does air the other way around (J! then WOF) in Baltimore. If you're in a good spot, you can sometimes get the ...

Starlings are a nasty invasive species. And mourning doves are annoyingly noisy. I like other birds. We have mourning doves in our neighborhood and I find their plaintive cry to be one of the loveliest sounds in all of nature. I'm shocked that anyone's take on them could be so 180-degree opposite. ...
