Re: Thursday, May 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I have heard with lumbago.

I may have heard the word plumbago.

I probably thought plumbago was also a disease.

I would never in a million years have thought plumbago was another name for pencil lead.

I went with the other mythical Greek wooden vessel - the Argo. I knew there were a lot of famous Argonauts, but apparently neither Ulysses or Menelaus.

Re: Monday, May 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I am sure the contestants would have gotten lederhosen if they had looked like this:

I was a little thrown off myself by just seeing a picture of leder hosen - leather pants - without the sterotypical suspenders.

Re: Monday, May 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

For once, instead of flailing away at southern cities, my mind immediately rattled off monarchs: Edward, William, George, Charles....Charleston! I'm glad Louis(ville) didn't come to mind, though I probably would've rejected it as not southern enough. Another day, another 2nd place overwager. Ho-hum...

Re: Thursday, May 10, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Ephron was another guess this week with little confidence. I knew she was a screenwriter that had died relatively recently, but I wasn't 100% sure she had been Oscar-nominated. (Three times, it turns out: for Sleepless in Seattle (which she also directed), When Harry Met Sally... , and the work of h...

What would have been built with a thatched roof? Famously destroyed in a fire and rebuilt? Likely not used anymore for much besides being a novelty landmark? Got it.
They do perform plays there. It's an actual theater. Mostly Shakespeare, of course, but not all.

Re: Monday, May 7, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

My initial guess was Chicago, but I was pretty sure it won more than 2 Oscars (and it did, winning 6). I stayed in the general area and thought of Fargo. I knew McDormand won, and figured it could have also picked up one for something like writing (it also got Best Original Screenplay). I never conn...

Re: 5/3/18 FJ Poll [SPOILER!]

I've seen it once and I really need to watch it again. It's one of those where you see it and go, "there's a reason this is regarded as one of the greatest movies of all time. The reason is, IT'S REALLY GOOD".

Re: Tuesday, April 24, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm a lifelong Ohioan and couldn't think of any official state fruit, although I knew our state beverage was tomato juice... and that picture surely wasn't a tomato! Apparently in 2009 the tomato did in fact become our state fruit, while the pawpaw became the state "native fruit." I didn't even kno...

Re: HQ Trivia

According to this: https://www.popsugar.com/news/How-Conne ... a-44754014 , it was rolled out on April 17. Although the article doesn't mention a difference for Android, I do note that all the screenshots showing the friends function are of iPhones.

Re: HQ Trivia

HQ has implemented a friends list. There is a small icon in the upper left of the home screen. You can swipe left during the game and it will tell you if your friends are still in.

If anyone wants to add me, my name there is the same as here.

Re: Thursday, April 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I fixated on the year and the "shrine" part and totally overlooked the "folded flag." Never thought about a cemetery. at all and guessed Washington Monument because a) I believe it may be considered a shrine and b) IIRC it was completed late in the Civil War (which was widely considered a gesture o...

Re: Thursday, April 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I considered the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, but I dismissed it because I knew that much of the grounds of the cemetery were originally the property of the family of Robert E Lee, and 1864 seemed too early for that (I figured they would at least wait until after the war).

Re: Thursday, April 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Ice Cream + two names = always a coinflip on Ben & Jerry's or Baskin-Robbins. Any suggestions on narrowing them down? The show has only once given you the first names of Baskin and Robbins (Burton and Irv, for the record) and asked for their company, and even then gave you the hint "a different fla...
