Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

A barnburner at the top of A Piedmont with 2 days to go. We both have 34 points, with a differential of +24, but he is ahead because of TMP (163 v 153). It's a nailbiter. Third place in the rundle is on 31 points, so she has an outside shot. Hoo boy. I lost on MD24, keeping me at 34 points. However...

Re: Monday, September 24, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I figured out it was the guy after Victoria.

I knew it went Edward / George / Edward, with the last one being Edward VIII. I, an allegedly smart man, knew it was two kings before that, and so subtracted 2 from 8 and said Edward VI. Oops.

[*]Only four of the draftees have not won a tournament going into the ASG: Alan Lin, Seth Wilson, Matt Jackson, and Larissa Kelly.
Has Ken won a tournament?
No, but Ken was also not a draftee.

Only two countries I would describe as "Eurasian" - Russia and Turkey. Boom, done. Dino used to be a LLama. He came in third on my Mission: Impossible 1DS, which was notoriously difficult (he was the only person other than RautY to get all 12 correct). IIRC, his QPct was pretty high - like > 90%. He...

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

The only books I remember by Willa Cather are My Antonia and O Pioneers. So that would make it Pioneers. But I can't imaging 'pioneers' being in the title of that many books. What about Ship of Fools? That was Catherine Ann Porter. Wait... wasn't there a book called Death Comes for the Archbishop? W...

I knew ouzo was an anise-flavored liqueur, and I figured that was probably the connection, but I wasn't sure what the Italian analogue was. I said grappa because I knew that was a thing that was Italian.

Re: LearnedLeague 78 - Official Thread

Brutal day yesterday. I was lucky to get 4 - I said "Milne" for the two-movie Christopher Robin question. I was thinking of A.A. - not his son, so another point proving you should just give the last name if permitted. Ewan McGregor's character's last name was Robin in the 2018 film. But I found the...

Neat, thanks Mark. (That may just be because there aren't a lot of season 20 games on YouTube, but it's nice to be noticed.)
