Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

From what I read, he had special teams of pacers running in formation around him to break the air resistance, a car leading the way with a special laser light to project on the pavement going at exactly the proper pace velocity, and he was getting his water and nutrition handed to him via bicyclists...

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya breaks the 2-hour barrier for the marathon, running a specially-held marathon just for that purpose in Vienna, and finishing in 1:59:40. (According to this , the event was non-record eligible, so the official world record, set by Kipchoge last year at the Berlin Marathon, is ...

And did he not guess "Johnny Walker on that bourbon clue? Johnny Walker is Scotch.
Not that Jack Daniels is much better of a guess; it's famously made in Tennessee and is not referred to as bourbon. (They could call it bourbon - it uses a correct recipe - but choose not to.)

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I am in fourth in my rundle. All of the top three are tied two points ahead of me, but I hold a MPD advantage over all of them. So if I can win and any of them lose, I'm in. (And I am 9 points ahead in the Maso race, so I am guaranteed at least a share of that.)

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Well, now, this is interesting. Going into the last three days of the season, there is a tie for points for second/third/fourth in my rundle with only MPD separating them. There are three more tied at 5/6/7 two points back. So depending on results, there could be a lot of movement in the last three ...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

My greatest achievement this season is leading my rundle in both CAA (108, next is 100) and TPA (156, next is 144). I liked yesterday's set and got all six right. On the subject of those statistical achievements: BackesER is leading his rundle by a longshot in correct answers given (96 to 62), tota...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I had a middle school science teacher that pointed out that "phenylketonuriacs: contains phenylalanine" warning on diet soda and now I can't un-see it. (I also notice it on sugar-free gum.) Except I mentally parsed it as phenyl - keto - neuria (with an 'e') rather than phenyl - keto - uria (with an ...

You can definitely tell who is either a) British, or b) watches British quiz shows. The "Carry On" films are perennial quiz fodder over there.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I got a much needed 4(4)-1(1) win yesterday. I was so happy that I pulled Gerwig. My first thoughts were Ephron and Diablo Cody, then I thought of Ladybird (which I've seen), then I pulled Gerwig's name after a few seconds. My only hesitation was that I thought that the common link was female direc...

While his health is everyone’s main concern, does anyone know if this will interrupt the taping schedule?

Sorry to hear the chemo has been rough, harrumph. Keep fighting.
According to a tweet by James Holzhauer, they taped the ToC this week. So, I guess not.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

Another freshman mistake on the Variety show. It was fill in the blanks with: article "the" , blank, preposition "of", blank, and QUESTION MARK. I took the punctuation to be part of the title. It kind of didn't look italicized, but I couldn't be sure. The "?" sent me astray on guessing word pairs. ...

My opponent & I appropriately zeroed each other on Sister, Sister . Where I won the match was getting Foley for 3 points.
