Re: LL79: For the LLamas

It's amazing how certain bands that are some people's favorites completely miss other people. I'm thinking of Halestorm, which I've never heard of, but also the guy on the LL boards who said he wasn't really familiar with "Come On Eileen". (That particular question was also an example, to me, of ant...

Re: Tuesday, January 15, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I didn't see FJ as a coin flip. The quote very strongly outlines Hoover's policy of non-intervention. It's the policy that lost him the election against FDR. It's the polar opposite of FDR's policy of extensive government help to end the Depression. If that quote had somehow come out of FDR's mouth...

I just noticed that I'm in the the same Rock & Roll ML group as Brian Weikle. Jeez.

(#1's first name ends in an E and not an A; it's different than #9's first name.)

I can honestly say I have never heard of #3.

Angelina was a fascinating villain and I expect to see her on Survivor again. She played hard and was always thinking of creative ways to top previous evil deeds.
Probst has already said she is his #1 choice for a returning contestant from this season.

No clue on FJ. Amadeus is one of the few Best Pictures I haven't yet seen. Although I was a bit perplexed at Alex reacting like it was some sort of federal crime not to have seen the movie the way he did. That movie is, what, 35 years old? It's not quite at a Gone with the Wind or The Godfather leve...

Re: for Survivor talk

Glad to see Mike made the final 3. I've enjoyed his work and he and his father were an entertaining pair on The Amazing Race. I wish we could have ever had some reason why Nick was so dead-set on getting Alison out. I never got any sense she was any sort of threat to win (although that may have jus...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Glad that I was able to make the Anjou->Angevin connection that that was accepted as an alternative for Plantagenet. The name "Usagi" in the typhoon list I knew was Japanese for rabbit, and that traditionally they see a "rabbit in the moon" rather than a man, so I thought perhaps that was a list of ...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

The funniest piece of Die Hard trivia I know is that the book it was based on ("Nothing Lasts Forever") was the sequel to a book called "The Detective". "The Detective" was adapted into a film in the '60s and starred Frank Sinatra. So when they started developing the film Die Hard , due to the way t...

Changed from Midge (which I was 95% sure of) to Skipper (100%). Not that it would have mattered.

Re: Friday, December 14, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The way FJ was worded made me think it was just a website and not a brick-and-mortar business. I spent the entire 30 seconds trying to think of a kid-focused website to famously shut down this year and came up with nothing.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I'd like to know how many people who got Wole Soyinka correct have been in the league long enough to remember the last time Thorsten asked about him (LL61 D20 Q2 - https://learnedleague.com/question.php?61&20&2). Q% of 11% back then, so at least he's consistently obscure. I will say the only reason ...

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize John F. Kennedy and "Jack Kennedy" were the same person.

When "Female Playwrights" came up I knew we were getting a Wendy Wasserstein clue. The only question was whether or not it would involve The Heidi Chronicles.

I had no idea Boeing was no longer HQed in the Pacific Northwest. United was the best I could do for an aeronautics company based in Chicago.

Like a lot of people, when I saw Latka, I immediately said taxi driver (I am familiar with the show but never really watched Taxi ). Kaylee (from Firefly ) gave me a little pause, but I only watched that show through once, and I wasn't sure if that was her pre-ship job. Puddy from Seinfeld , I think...

Former president George HW Bush dies at age 94.

Every president to die since Nixon (81) in 1994 has lived to be at least 93.

I knew Cape Breton because one of my favorite cartoonists, Kate Beaton, lives there.

(I went to a signing of hers, where I got to witness this interaction firsthand:)
