Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

With the Raptors' win yesterday, Pau and Marc Gasol become the first brothers to have both won the NBA championship. Marc is on the Raptors and Pau (currently with the Bucks) won two titles with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010.

Re: 2019 Current Events Study Guide

The Toronto Raptors win the 2019 NBA Championship over the Golden State Warriors 4 games to 2. This is the first championship for the franchise, and the first title for a Canadian team in one of the Big 4 sports leagues (NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL) since the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in October...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

I thought of Captain America but answered Prince Namor, because I thought he went back pretty far. In any case, the Wikipedia article on the Avengers describes the Captain as a retroactive founding member. Now, is that a cheat or what? The five members of the Avengers in Avengers #1 back in the 60s...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Oh, it felt so good to dredge up the Marquis de Sade out of the back of my brain. I had been all "I know I can get this, let me stew on it" for most of the day when the "Hospital at Charendon" part faintly evoked the movie "Quills", which is about de Sade in a sanitarium (I think, I never saw that o...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Kanchenjunga and Lhotse were the big clues there for me. Apparently "Chhogori" (the "local" name for K2, from the Urdu for "big mountain") has very little evidence as being in actual use, because the mountain is apparently so remote that it can't be seen from the nearest villages, so they would have...

Re: Why Is Wheel's Season Shorter than J's?

Because it doesn't have as many episodes in it, of course.

I just watched The 400 Blows for the first time last Saturday and noted on Wikipedia the meaning of the title. Synchronicity.

Had precalled the Coppolas, the Barrymores, and the Hustons. Lionel initially led me to the Barrymores, but Randy pulled me in the correct direction. Alfred Newman composed the famous 20th Century Fox fanfare.

I always thought it was funny that the image on Alex's monitor in that shot was the screen overlay for the Wheel of Fortune bonus round.

I had one of my best defensive efforts ever last season, but I have managed to give up TWO 9(5)s in three matches this season.

Clingman's Dome is an astounding get. If I hadn't been to the top of it this past weekend I would never have gotten it. (There is parking about a half-mile from the top.)

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

So there are a total of 5 films that have been nominated for Best Picture that are shorter than 4 letters (none have won). How many can you name?
SpoilerShow
The Greek film Z,
the Pixar film Up,
Oliver Stone's JFK,
the biopic Ray (which won Jamie Foxx his Oscar), and
the Spike Jonze film Her.

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

What was the Best Picture question? I figure it's this one: Two films are tied for having the shortest title of any movie to win Best Picture since the OSCARS began in ’27. How many letters long were their titles- three, four, five or six? https://bobbymgsk.wordpress.com/2019/05/20/millionaire-5-20...

Peter Mayhew dies at 74. He played Chewbacca in the original Star Wars trilogy, made a cameo in Revenge of the Sith (Episode III), and filmed some scenes for The Force Awakens (Episode VII). The Finnish actor (and former basketball player) Joonas Suotamo filled in for Mayhew in Episode VII where Ch...
