Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Classic overthinking on the FJ! clue by Joe. David Kendall would be disappointed in me, because I did not know until now what the "union" of the flag was (though I certainly could have guessed, if supplied the term--what else could it be?). Other flag trivia from 4 U.S.C.: when a new state joins, i...

Re: Monday, June 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Lotus position is not the same as Indian style. Poll request: "I can do lotus position." I was saddened to note that the actor Benedict Cumberbatch in portraying an alleged master of the mystic arts did not attempt to train himself to do lotus position for the shot that required it in Avengers: Inf...

D-list celebrities are the ones who accept invitations to Dancing with the Stars. Does anyone believe that Holzhauer would have an invitation to decline?

I think by "champ's spot" Mark was referring to the leftmost (furthest upstage) lectern.

Re: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The good thing about the Viewmaster was the rotating system. Not only that but it didn't require printing and enlargement to paper cards which were more susceptible to warping/bending, mold, water damage, sticking to each other, dirt/scratches, etc. etc. Cared for well, films on Viewmaster discs fr...

ambiguous and/or misleading
Except that you did not say ambiguous or misleading--you said no correct response, which was an error of grammar or logic or both.

there's no correct response to this FJ
That's silly. The last case could've been in 1776 and it still would've been accurate to say that there hadn't been a case in 40 years.

Did the FDA approve its first-ever drug for that in 2018, though? Did I say the clue was unpinned? But Final generally isn't about knowing the arcane pinning fact; it's about being able to suss out the correct response. Because the clue doesn't specify "worldwide", and because the FDA is a U.S. ins...

According to this page, the value for the negbait response would have been 39 years.

I can't think of why E.J. picked exactly $501 for his wager. His safe martian wager was $1,799. In particular, I can't figure out why his wager ended with -01 instead of with -99.

Re: Season 36 Changes & Predictions

I seem to recall Alex correcting a mistaken invalid bet. It might have been during a kids or celebrity week. They edited out of my game Alex asking whether my "two" (for a next-clue call) meant "two hundred or two thousand". I was stupefied that Alex thought there could have been any ambiguity. He o...

I can't find anything to suggest the Model A viewer was sold prior to 1939. The patent (2,189,285) was applied for on January 20th of that year. The fact that the earliest Model A was manufactured with the marking "PAT.APPLD.FOR" suggests no ViewMasters were fabricated prior to that date.
