Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Agreed; her speaking tempo in the interview is a little slow for clue reading, though. Hopefully she was coached to read faster than she speaks contemporaneously. I was touched by her mentioning her close loved ones who were also lost to cancer.

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

That still wouldn't take us through the end of a regular-length S37, which I believe would end 7/30.

https://ew.com/tv/jeopardy-guest-hosts-full-schedule/

Doesn't give dates for Anderson Cooper, Savannah Guthrie, Mayim Bialik, Bill Whitaker, or Dr. Sanjay Gupta, but I think we can assume them to have two weeks each, which takes us through 6/25.

Re: Friday, March 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

What is up with someone wanting all the O' to o' for the GNR song? A partial word does not get upper case or reject all of them? The Archive has always had the weird convention of capitalizing every word in a song, for reasons that made sense to me in the early days but for which I can no longer ex...

Re: Friday, March 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I can't just add it as a note under the $1600 Before I even saw this I submitted a correction suggestion doing just that! I think we've done this at least once before but for the life of me I can't remember where. Something deep in my memory makes me think it was for a Pokemon clue, but possibly I ...

Re: Tuesday, March 2, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did not like how Richards straight negged 'upload'; I feel Trebek would've gone "we need both words" I think the problem was more the category requirements rather than the actual negging. He specifically said during the category reveal that each correct response requires two words - one with "up" a...

Re: Wednesday, March 3, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Obviously the clue writers thought we'd immediately think of I.M. Pei given the 1980s bit, but what came to mind for me when I heard about a building that's been under construction for centuries was a cathedral. With the Notre Dame fire a huge news story just two years ago it seemed like the obviou...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Jeopardy!'s first and last "fax machine dealer" contestant. Sorry you had trouble with the OCR. You probably know how to tweak the settings but there's a limit as to how good you can get it sometimes.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

There is an 's' sound before Easter, though. I think this is similar to other cases: the contestant starts speaking before the broadcasted audio switches off of Alex to the contestant resulting in the "What is" inadvertently cut off. Ditto. I clearly hear that "S" at least 75% of the times I play t...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

The fact that it is 2021 and we still have people proposing arguments on this thread to the subject of this thread is mind-boggling to me. It's as if time and history do not exist.

Re: TOC Cutoff (Are you listening, Mike Richards?)

I was going by the most recent verbiage on the TOC tracker at the official site on the 4 game minimum. Still nothing there about who might take the spot. It says, "All 4-time and over winning players starting from 01/05/21 will be eligible for a future Tournament of Champions". The date there is im...

Was guest host Mike's description of the XYZ affair accurate? Were the French trying to bribe the Americans (as Mike claimed) or were they demanding bribes from the Americans?

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I think I've more or less confirmed that the rightmost player in Bruce Fauman game 3 is Bob Boehm, not Boed. Twitter user @BobbBoehm has "Former Jeopardy! Contestant" in his bio, plus I think his profile/cover picture is a facial match for the 1985 contestant. (The game is on archive.org if anyone ...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Eric Berman pointed me to this post by our late great friend Robert McIelwain in which the 3-day total for David Peterman (winning challenger in Eric Berman game 5 I just entered) is given as $7,300, which is asserted to have been the lowest 3-day total ever, both pre- and post-doubled dollar values.
