Proposal for a mnemonic: ENIAC, the terribly inefficient earlier computer: any yak could design this better! UNIVAC, the next iteration: we have the ONE now! Any time ENIAC or UNIVAC comes up, the clue will probably either mention a year (or decade) or a setting (academic/military/commercial/govern...

And "computed for the H-Bomb" is the appropriately named MANIAC. Except that the first major problem solved by ENIAC was related to the H-bomb. Metropolis and Frankel went to Philadelphia to set it up. Another way you could have gotten this, if you really knew your computing history, would have bee...

... Correction to Jeopardy! Bethlehem Clue: In the process of taping this clue, “BUILT IN THE 300s A.D., THE CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY,” we became aware that the clue was flawed as written and that determining an acceptable response would be problematic. In accordance with our rules and in the interes...

"Who do you want to replace you?" "Betty White." His more complete answer to this one involves the setup of something along the lines of "I think it'll be a woman, someone young and with television experience..." But maybe he's told the joke so many times now he has become more curt. Or maybe the v...

It wasn't really pinned... if the Duke of Edinburgh can be used then presumably any of his children or grandchildren can be used, as well. Then it becomes a game of "who is most likely to have consented to donate their DNA" and I would pick a younger person over an older person in a heartbeat.

The weird thing is my DVR kept recording last night's primetime sitcoms thinking it was GOAT match #5.

Archive, a fan-created compilation of more than 380,000 clues from “Jeopard...

30 seconds of staring and trying to think of a picture book along the lines of Where the Wild Things Are or Make Way for Ducklings . Dude, that's the Caldecott. Incidentally, the 1963 Caldecott was The Snowy Day , which, as was noted in the current events thread, was recently declared NYPL's most ch...

Maybe all those people who lost to James and Ken along the way will finally get to come back
Ken winning GOAT is like having Jordan vs. Bird face-offs three times, Jordan winning all three face-offs, then putting LeBron in the mix and Bird winning. Bird is GOAT now? Really?

Re: Your prediction for GOAT tonight Jan. 14

My big concern about Ken winning is I feel like it won't have settled the question. If Brad wins, question settled. He's beaten Ken three times before and to have done it once more with the new guy in the mix is icing on the cake. Brad's the GOAT. If James wins, question settled. He went up against ...
