Re: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The good thing about the Viewmaster was the rotating system. Not only that but it didn't require printing and enlargement to paper cards which were more susceptible to warping/bending, mold, water damage, sticking to each other, dirt/scratches, etc. etc. Cared for well, films on Viewmaster discs fr...

ambiguous and/or misleading
Except that you did not say ambiguous or misleading--you said no correct response, which was an error of grammar or logic or both.

I presume you're talking about The Jeopardy! Fan, which is not the same as Andy's Thoughts.

there's no correct response to this FJ
That's silly. The last case could've been in 1776 and it still would've been accurate to say that there hadn't been a case in 40 years.

Re: Friday, June 14, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Did the FDA approve its first-ever drug for that in 2018, though? Did I say the clue was unpinned? But Final generally isn't about knowing the arcane pinning fact; it's about being able to suss out the correct response. Because the clue doesn't specify "worldwide", and because the FDA is a U.S. ins...

According to this page, the value for the negbait response would have been 39 years.

I can't think of why E.J. picked exactly $501 for his wager. His safe martian wager was $1,799. In particular, I can't figure out why his wager ended with -01 instead of with -99.

Re: Season 36 Changes & Predictions

I seem to recall Alex correcting a mistaken invalid bet. It might have been during a kids or celebrity week. They edited out of my game Alex asking whether my "two" (for a next-clue call) meant "two hundred or two thousand". I was stupefied that Alex thought there could have been any ambiguity. He o...

Re: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I can't find anything to suggest the Model A viewer was sold prior to 1939. The patent (2,189,285) was applied for on January 20th of that year. The fact that the earliest Model A was manufactured with the marking "PAT.APPLD.FOR" suggests no ViewMasters were fabricated prior to that date.

I had never heard of Baader-Meinhof before, which means I will now hear about it twice in the coming week.

Maybe from myself.

he does have a string of more than 15 clues without ringing in which includes a Daily Double
Not only that, but he had a decent lead up until the broken-buzzer period, despite missing both of the prior DDs, which he found.

It feels rare for a 2nd place contestant to double his/her score while the leader wins by exactly $1.
I think this is a pretty common loss scenario for the second-place player where the second-place player is between one-half and two-thirds of the leader's score pre-Final.

Re: Quick Rules Q

If there was something written, why haven't contestants been able to get a straight answer from the contestant coordinators? Corina told me something that was later contradicted by the on-show consolation displays, meaning that if what she told me was true, there had to have been not one but two cha...

Re: Quick Rules Q

I, for one, somewhat doubt that complete written rules covering all scenarios exist, and I especially doubt that they have existed since the start of the Trebek era. There are simply too many inconsistencies and uncertainties, as anyone who watches or archives old games can readily attest to. there...

Thanks to the LARRY, MOE, or CURLY category we can add ... video game legend Leisure Suit Larry to the Jeopardy Canon. This really surprised me (that LSL wasn't in the Archive already) but I imagine it's because the game is recent enough that I remember the game and/or remember it being discussed o...

Did it really spell it that way and not Salammbô, with the circumflex over the final o.
I'll let Myron answer but while noting that Jeopardy! virtually always drops diacritical marks from words in clues.
