I thought the souvenir clue was massive negbait for "memento".
Not a lot of French words ending in O.
But then again, there was another in this category, bistro, and in the game, hebdo...

Re: Friday, January 18, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

There was nearly a second possible correct response to this FJ: Jeff Probst. Survivor followed Millionaire as TV's number one show in the fall of 2000 and Probst has guest-hosted Live! several dozen times over the years...but his first time doing so wasn't until 2001 (he even fits Alex's comment ab...

Re: Thursday, January 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

standard...the people on this show know heaps of stuff except for math and strategy And sports. And movies/Oscars. Ironically, people seem to do fairly well with the “dreaded” Opera category. Or at least that’s my perception. I'd say movies and Oscars are 2 different things. You're only going to ex...

Re: Thursday, January 17, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was cheering for Caroline. What a lovely woman! The innominate situation came into play today. If Caroline had held back toward the end of the double jeopardy round, there would have been a chance of avoiding a runaway. As FJ turned out, it wouldn't have mattered. And of course Caroline came out ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

Willy Brandt is German. Pick Germany, East Germany or West Germany. He's a famous leader and J! players will/should have some familiarity. Ostpolitik gives you Ost=East for the extra hint. No crime if $800 or $1200 while the player result shows top box works as well. I just said "Germany" on that o...

I am mad as hell because I got Greenwich Village wrong because that contestant started in the middle of the category with that clue. If the category had been played straight down, I would have known the gimmick by that point and not have been distracted by the reference to Houston Street. If I coul...

i agree with that 5k clue...no idea who those people are and no idea how that was a question to get to 5k....naming the last 2 british people to be executed for sodomy would have been easier than that and no way that would be a 5k question either Jeopardy! valued that knowledge at $2000 about a yea...

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

Well, that episode certainly was ... different. There used to be at least a streak in the 40s every other year or so, but I don't remember any long ones recently. Jackie Bradley got up to 29 or 30 a couple years back for my Red Sox, and I remember Jimmy Rollins' 38 game streak between the end of 20...

Is there anybody here who can say they listened to Fibber McGee and Molly in first run? If age has anything to do with the response, it's mostly because old radio nostalgia was a phenomenon when we were growing up, not because we were around when FM&M was a radio sensation...I thought somebody shoul...

Re: Wednesday, January 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

All this composer talk reminds me of a M*A*S*H episode where Radar is taught to pronounce Bach as "Baaah". As edgy as it was, that is one sitcom that didn't age well. I don't know. Perhaps the problem is that those of us who have seen it have seen every single episode about five times. We'd need so...

Three out of the five composers got pronounced incorrectly. Wagner with w sound rather than a v, Verdi with the first syllable rhyming with fur rather than fair, and Haydn to rhyme with maiden rather than Biden. So of course Alex only asks for a repeat on one response in the category--the correctly...

Re: Wednesday, January 9, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

"The Sopranos" premiered 20 years ago Thursday. That milestone received a lot of play in the media this week, making it an easy precall for quite a few home viewers, I suspect. Of course, contestants taping months ago would not have been aware of that anniversary. It certainly helped me since I jus...

Re: Tuesday, January 8, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I wonder if the anthropology clue about Java Man wasn't anachronistic. I doubt if it gets much attention in modern biology courses, and if so, just as a footnote being named as "homo erectus". I hope they don't keep wasting time teaching about Piltdown man. Or creationism, for that matter. I think ...
