 :( :(
I was a 5 away from an FJ sweep...if I'd known just Luther and Theses and no number were required..
I've certainly heard "hold that tiger" as a musical phrase but I didn't know where it came from.

Re: Friday, December 6, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To assess the difficulty of the sports category: I know next to nothing about sports and I got the four non–Daily Double clues right. I knew what the Daily Double was going for, and the only reason I got it wrong was because I couldn't remember exactly how many people were on a football team and sa...

Re: Thursday, December 5, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Snopes.com weighed in on the jimmies/sprinkles thing- https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/jimmies-etymology/ 'Jimmies" sounds vaguely familiar, but I've never used it. I guess the FJ story may be one I've heard, too (or it could be, as someone noted, that it has such a strong narrative). In any case, ...

Re: Fourth Podium Poll for 12/3/2019 (SPOILERS)

I just feel like posting this. The Al Hirschfeld Theatre used to be the Martin Beck, which is also the name of the hero in a series of detective novels by the Swedish writers Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. It's the theatre Katharine Hepburn was acting in when she inspired Dorothy Parker (author of thi...

FINAL JEOPARDY! CLUE An insider described the scene :? there : “Just…loudmouths showing off, saving their gags for days, waiting to spring them” My rank for the quality of answers: 1) Saturday Night Live 2) Party at Gatsby 3) Apollo The 4) a lot of other crap like New York Public Library, Poetry Sl...

Re: Monday, December 2, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

On the first DD, would they have accepted just "Rockefeller?" If they needed to BMS, would "John D" without the "Jr" have sufficed? Would they have accepted "Zosa" for "Xhosa?" I would've gotten it for sure if it were an FJ, but pronouncing it is another matter. You definitely didn't need Jr. since...

Re: Friday, November 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I presume that a first name is always sufficient for a fictional character. If they've made exceptions to this I don't remember them. "Alex from Family Ties" was ruled incorrect on an FJ: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=3959 Thanks. That ruling seems harsh. We're sure it's not cause s...

Re: Monday, December 2, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I got 99 problems, and this FJ is one... Yes, I put down the wrong number...very bummed now that I know the number wasn't required...Any chance they were told in advance they didn't need one? It seems odd that neither Alex nor Muhammed attempted it. 95 Theses is the standard way of referring ...

Re: Friday, November 29, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was surprised (and horrified) to realize I remembered "Alexis" from Dynasty but was struggling with the last name, and could only come up with "Colby"...which technically, was correct too. I presume that a first name is always sufficient for a fictional character. If they've made exceptions to th...

Re: FJs for the 11/25/19 week

I may have subconsciously been aware that battlements leads to castle leads to Dracula, but on the surface I was just thinking it's an unsettling thing to say, and what title character makes his guests more uneasy than Dracula? I still remember seeing Werner Herzog's version of Nosferatu when I was ...

      :( :( As a huge Welles fan, Wed should have been easiest of the week for me...Not sure why it just didn't come - years are not often triggering for me, yet '67 helped get me to The Graduate...But Citizen Kane doesn't boil down to Rosebud, for ...

Re: Wednesday, November 27, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

This FJ was deeply frustrating for me since Citizen Kane is one of my favorites (despite the way it's been defamed around here recently... ), and I've been listening to Welles radio broadcasts lately from just before he went to Hollywood. But still, Plastics! came right away and casting aroun...

Re: Long-standing Jeopardy Traditions That We haven't seen in a long time

There seem to be less opera, Shakespeare, Those Darn Etruscans, and Potent Potables categories than there used to be. is that a bad thing? doesn't seem like less shakespeare to me...seems there is a category every week involving that...too much bible imo...need to do away with that since this is a ...

They're definitely clipping responses. For the DPI clue, I could see Julie's mouth moving, saying "What is...", but the audio only caught "inch" clearly. Hey, if it gets 61 clues in a game, I'm all for it. This is a sincere question: If they're clipping only the audio, and you can see the mouth mov...

NHO The Alienist . Turns out it was adapted into a limited series on TNT in 2018, but there are so many of those these days that it's hard to keep up. And it was a very good show, too. Sadly, I couldn't pull up the name in time. The book is better. And I had trouble remembering the name of it, too....

Re: Monday, November 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Tech companies have a reputation for being aggressively casual. How is Uber a tech company? Well, let's see ... they don't own any cars ... they don't directly employ any drivers ... they have an app, and that's it from the corporate standpoint. It's still just a transportation company. The name of...

Re: Reretaken Down

One of the questions on tonight's episode of Catch-21: From 1961 to 1989, what 27-mile barrier divided a famous German city? The question has an obvious mistake as the Berlin Wall was 96 miles. I have no idea what those question writers were thinking. Perhaps this? The total length was 96 miles (15...
