Re: Friday, January 24, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I agree that John was underwhelming today, but I wonder if he would have done better if it were not the last game of the taping session and his third game. But the seven hills of Rome and the Pieta seemed to be pretty much gimmes. It seems that Heather could have afforded to bet a little bit more t...

Re: Thursday, January 23, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Of course the only network carrying the impeachment trial is the one that carries Jeopardy in my area. So I had to watch it through other sources. Teen or even Kids Week FJ. But is this really a huge Election Day ritual unless you live close to where she is buried? Population of the Rochester, NY m...

Re: Wednesday, January 22, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Dennis left his spot to graciously congratulate his opponents and then did a Snagglepuss. To me it looked like misunderstanding an offstage instruction and in no way looked like poor sportsmanship when Dennis was walking away. Dennis finally got the message and returned to his place for the after c...

Re: Wednesday, January 22, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILE

For the make like a tree pun I have gone back and forth on it for the archive as I hear "leave" while the CC has "leaf" and I can hear that as well. Yes Biff Tannen would have another idea. My wife and I both heard “leaf” and were waiting for a reversal, which I believe would have put him in second...

Re: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Was anyone else super glad when "a galaxy far away" was deemed incorrect? It warmed my nerd heart. I'm wondering if just "far, far away" would have been accepted, or would have been BMSed. Probably a neg, but it was my immediate response, and the clue was typical Jeopardy awkwardness. Any other gam...

I thought of movies first but quickly decided that J! was more likely to ask about print in a Libraries category. If the category was Stupid Answers I would have guessed differently...

Re: Monday, January 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

More kudos from me for Traci as a very appealing contestant in a real heartbreaker. Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy's sitcom Schitt's Creek has been getting a lot of attention lately. I love those two in particular from SCTV but I just don't think the current show is very funny (starting with the t...

Re: Friday, January 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Guessed the Queen Mother on FJ. Never would've thought to look outside the monarchial line. Judges:. Rationalism for Reason? I counted myself wrong because it's not referred to as the Age of Rationalism. But I didn't look it up - if you can find examples I'm sure judges would reconsider. I assumed ...

Re: The GREATEST OF ALL TIME FJs for the 1/13/20 week

Got both the FJs (Arcadia seemed fairly obvious, Iago an educated guess, but I might have gone with Brutus if I'd thought of him first), but I'm surprised to realize I didn't get any of the others. The only one that I feel I should have gotten was Lawrence Welk, but I said Guy Lombardo instead...

I've been thinking there's been a conspicuous lack of geography FJs this season, so of course they give us 2 in one week... It didn't help that I somehow read it as "South America" for the first few seconds...

No idea for FJ. Said The Phantom Tollbooth just to say something.
That's a really good guess.
There's not a whiff of quantum theory in The Phantom Tollbooth...Milo wouldn't have been able to follow it. He's no Meg or Charles Wallace... :)

Re: Tuesday, January 14, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Judges: My response to Let's Get Married for $1000 was "What is leaving the church down the aisle?" The clue didn't ask for the specific word and that is essentially what the recessional is. Thoughts? I'd give it to you. Yes, I don't think there's anything particular to a military wedding about the...

Masterpiece on PBS has adapted Sanditon, the final, unfinished novel by Jane Austen https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/specialfeatures/sanditon-s1-everything-we-know-right-now/ Only one hit in the Archive for that title. I'm surprised. Yes, and that clue hinges on Northanger Abbey , not Sanditon ...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 4 (1/14/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Surprised that James missed that last FJ. I guess he was thinking that since Hamlet is the longest play, it must have the most supporting speeches. It looks like James was right that Horatio has the most speeches after Hamlet. I would have thought it was Claudius, myself...he has almost, but not qui...

Re: Monday, January 13, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I think they made an error on the question about the technology that was unveiled at comdex in 1999. TiVo is a brand of DVR and was introduced in 1999 so it should have been acceptable. That means the future doc wouldn't have been penalized and Veronica wouldn't have gained. I'm not sure it would h...

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

ADD AN "E" Add an "E" at the end of a fiery Hindu funeral practice, and you get the name of this French composer. Who is Erik Satie?(From Sati.) That would be fun for the weekly poll. I'd check the box saying I got this from the French composer angle rather than the funeral practice angle. I've hea...
