Re: Monday, April 12, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I recently learned of the "candy" in American Food...$800 when I received this picture as an advertisement. My question: Who's buying this?? At best, it looks like he's peddling sea monster parts... It's just salmon jerky... Hey, I didn't say anything about the guy... ;) Whatever it is, it's...

Re: Monday, April 12, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I came up with Australia almost immediately but was insecure enough to keep "thinking." When I thought of "Sochi" I changed my response, forgetting the "Summer" requirement... Have I mentioned I don't follow the Olympics?... ;) I recently learned of the "candy" in American Food...$8...

As an example of the closed captioner not having a clue, for 'Horus' they had 'Horace'. Oy.

And what was going on with Seward? It sounded fine to me.
She said it more like See-ward than Sew-ard.

Also, I thought the FJ was oddly worded. One edition "shows a farm"? I assumed they were describing a cover illustration, but I couldn't be positive. Nevertheless, I got it right.
Clearly it should have said "shows the farm"... ;)

Re: Friday, April 9, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I've seen all three film versions of OMaM, so the clue clicked pretty well for me. (Burgess Meredith, Robert Blake, Gary Sinise) I also saw the Broadway revival a few years ago with James Franco (and let's not forget Lon Chaney, Jr., Randy Quaid, John Malkovich, Chris O'Dowd). Didn't help me tonigh...

It couldn't have been sweltering from the climate. They had a roaring fire going in the fireplace. When FDR stroked out, he was thrust forward into the fireplace and his head was roasted like a peanut. That's a mental image I could live without. I don't believe it's true, either. FDR wasn't alone w...

Re: Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was reading an article about a guy who tried to ship himself in a crate from Australia to London back in 1965. It had this sentence, "the stowaway was sent home to London on a plane - this time in the cabin." Imagine if that had said "a cabin". It would sound completely off, right? Bad English. I...

Re: Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Maybe Caro's point, or meaning, is that it was an isolated cabin separate from "the cabin" that other passengers were in. Like on a ship (or a train?) Considering he was now President of the United States, and all. Maybe the preceding sentences clarify that. ADDENDUM: They don't, but I can't blame t...

Re: Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I wonder if anyone on the boards matched my wrong FJ to match Erin's. It's famous history near here. In 1901, Teddy was in the Adirondacks when McKinley was shot. He was staying there, and eventually began a frantic midnight trip to Buffalo. I never considered that "cabin" referred to an airplane. ...

Re: Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

What was with the British Labor party clue? Brandon answered 'Labor', and hearing crickets, specified "The Labor Party". The writers should have had that on the card as a good answer. *cough* Labo u r *uncough* The sheet would likely have had "Labour Party" as opposed to "Labour (Party)", but this ...

Never knew There was an Abilene Kansas. Never watched a western? Check out Red River on Turner Classic Movies later this month, and you'll get a mini education on Abilene and the Chisholm Trail and see a fine film to boot. Who needs movies? Study the presidents! Dwight Eisenhower grew up in and ret...

Re: Monday, April 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was pleasantly surprised at Aaron Rodgers’s ability as a host, though that hairdo put me in mind of Michael Beschloss at times. FJ had my wife thinking of Alex Trebek until I pointed out the category. I got to Fred Rogers quickly and couldn’t think of any response I liked better. My wife and I al...

Re: Monday, April 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

It looked like there was an edit or a glitch on the catcher clue. They just skipped the contestant giving the response and went to the next clue about The Baltic Sea. I don't think I had a seizure. I'm not epileptic or anything. Missed several clues immediately after that because it threw me off. A...

Re: Monday, April 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Like others, I never extended my thinking to children's TV. Look to the helpers I would recognize, but the Fj quote kind of flattens that out, I'd say... Every time, I say A Farewell to Arms when I mean The Sun Also Rises. One time it came up, I had recently read the latter before misidentifying it!...

Re: How Did Dr. Oz Do as Host? (His actual performance, not your opinion of him)

I give him a 5, and put him in last place. He had the poorest diction of the GH's so far. But he wasn't terrible, and it's the staff's fault if his FJ wrap-ups were not always informative enough.
