Re: J! in the Media

Would have liked to have heard the raw unedited interviews, probably a couple hours of content. I'm sure when the investigation starts, all that material will be made available... ;) Most remarkable was that there is no allusion to any controversy, let alone the ouster of the erstwhile CBS star...

   :( :(  :( I can't keep Scandinavian monarchs straight... I proudly said ruckus , but I'm glad rumpus has come up. I happened to rewatch the Coen Brothers' Miller's Crossing today, and everybody in the movie uses it as a greeting: What's the rumpus?

I registered the military suggestion, but if JPJ flitted through my mind he didn't stay there...I didn't know he was Scottish and I couldn't think of any other military man who was...So I cast around for others and came up with Alexander G. Bell.Obviously if you're going that way Carnegie would have...

Re: Thursday, March 14, 2024 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

On "Crossword Clues 'R'" for $200, would my response of "what is a ruckus?" be an acceptable alternate? According to m-w, racket refers specifically to a loud noise, while ruckus is a noisy fight, not just the noise itself. You might get credit, but there is an argument against....

Jeopardy! Needs to Cool It With the Tournaments
I'd call it a good summation of the conventional wisdom (for non-specialists!) and - except for the coinage of Jeoplebrities - I'm in sympathy with it.

I notice that the name is rendered at this moment on Simpsonswiki as Onderdunk , while giving his mother's birth name as Onderdonk .Evidently it's hard to keep track of... FWIW, Onderdonk is a venerable Dutch/NY name. I live near an 18th C. historical site known as Onderdonk House. I'm not seeing an...

Forgot to mention in my previous comments that I laughed out loud at DD2 as Yogesh pretended to pull a common name out of thin air. I got his humor immediately since I had the clue solved as soon as it was revealed. Good one to show Yogesh is having fun even in a contest with high stakes. He had me...

I'd be surprised if anyone could even point to a production offhand since it's so seldom done in English (though of course it turns out that Youtube has at least one...) Stacy Keach did it at Shakespeare in the Park's Delacorte Theater in 1969. I feel moved to amend this to the great (and still-kic...

I'll be checking the "I've never seen [the correct response]" box but I got this one from little more than the single throwaway joke in Anyone Can Whistle (and the handful of references on J! over the years). Was it Kevin Marshall who used to say everything you needed to know for J! you c...

In the 20th C. the term was most associated with Henry Kissinger

Before this episode the 92nd Street Y had exactly one archive hit and that was merely in passing and revealing nothing about it’s true purpose.
I know you didn't mean it, but this is the most sinister-sounding thing said yet. It's a Y that holds public events!

The clue subjects were largely about straight, White, male and non Jewish people. The clue writers did a better job of highlighting 13 letter words than highlighting minorities. Wondering why the 92nd Street Y has a category on it is not antisemitism. If you describe: Emma Lazarus Elie Wiesel Pablo...

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but a glance at the archive for this episode would have shown you that this is wrong.

just why is there a category about the 92nd Street y, this is a 'c landmark' at best and would probably be just as good to choose another random landmark from another hometown the writer was from. if your landmark has the name of the street to specify it, (making it sound like a fast food restauran...

Anybody else get 'distaff' primarily from its use in horse racing? I only got it from "female side of the family." I don't think I've ever heard it as "women's work." I probably read the use as "spindle" at some time in the distant past. It seemed logical and solidifie...
