Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Both I and my opponent put 3 points on the Cardi B question. For me, that was a mistake, and I'd rather not think about why they knew it. I refuse to listen to anything Top 40 from the past several years because I like myself too much for that. At least my other defensive choices were correct. I jus...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Second in the Taiga R rundle. I would have liked to guess which ones to make money questions a bit better. At least betting on the video game question got a decent number of points.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

My opponent had a lifetime .363 batting average in Literature and .419 in Art...and yet they could name a classic Chinese novel, but not the most famous Norwegian painting. I gave them a 3 on the former and a 0 on the latter, but still came away with an 8(5)-6(3) win. My only miss was the baseball ...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

To add to the WAGs on the sport question, I went with sky surfing. It was the best I could come up with for something that was created so recently and was a sport. As for the CS part? I don't know, cloud surfing?

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Was also trying to come up with Achebe. Couldn't remember it at the time, so put down Prince E-mailscam.

Answered place names for the music question. Guess it was too broad, but I only knew the Kansas song and didn't want to risk being too specific, either.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I'd have expected anyone in LL would be plenty nerdy enough to know D&D alignments. Maybe I just hang with a a really stereotypical crowd. This also goes to show just how, despite all being trivia buffs, we can see different things as being more or less difficult. I had one of my best sets with this...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Both the novels you considered are Brontë novels (albeit from different ones). (I considered them both too, with "Moor" pointing me in the Wuthering direction as well, but ultimately let the word "Institution" make me think of Jane Eyre 's madwoman in the attic, which was fortuitous since Lowood In...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Boy, was I right about that. Not only did I lose first place, but I had my worst day yet, only getting 2 questions right. Yesterday was brutal. For instance, I've never even heard of the Fox TV show nor its original British counterpart.

Terri Clark a sheep... *facepalm*
Well, I've never heard of her, to be honest. I knew the song well enough thanks to Warren Zevon, but I was never going to guess who was singing it here.

I probably had a big fat miss in there, but I knew I wasn't going to have an answer for two others.

I personally like the TDs that try to have a one or two choices that are reachable for most people, but when I read the questions and I don't know any answer for the first few, I just give up.
This is precisely why I skipped the one that was all sports.

Re: HQ Trivia

All I know is I've been having major difficulty getting the audio and video to stop dropping out on me lately. This never used to be a problem, even when there was significantly more load on their servers. If I wouldn't have missed at least one of the later questions, I'd have been violently angry a...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I missed a question I really should have gotten, considering tensile strength is one of the properties I tested for in one of my old jobs. I fell into this trap: "Hmm, what's the opposite of compression? Elongation. What kind of property would that be? Of course! Elasticity!" Just completely ignorin...

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

Actually, were these questions easier for the general group of players than they looked? In my division, the lowest percentage correct was 44, and that was surprisingly for the Rocky question.

Re: LL79: For the LLamas

I also made the Mahatma mistake, and my opponent played perfect defense. As usual, I am very bloody predictable. Luckily they only got one right, which was rather less than I was expecting.

That was the one that knocked me and most of my J! friends out. How much did it end up being worth?
$86.20 to 116 winners.

I was very close to missing fencing, mistaking "piste" for Spanish and wanting to put jai alai until I noticed the width of the field.

Re: Confetti Discussion

To continue with the amazingly bad luck I've been having in general all year, I managed to get 12/13 correct on tonight's game.

The one I missed? Question 1 because the question didn't show up on my screen. Considering only 116 people won tonight, that would have been a very welcome payout.

I thought the Booker was pretty famous, and the reward money being expressed in pounds would help.
That's the only reason I got it. I've heard of the prize, but had never heard of either book.
