Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

Is anybody else having extreme difficulty with defense in the Science ML? You obviously know what your opponent's general science track record is, but never their specialty.

Didn't follow Pyeonchang so I made a guess at curling...
You didn't have to know anything about the Olympic results to name a winter sport in which someone is a "skip" (and in which the competitors get enough "face time" that people know their nicknames).
I got it from "swept up."

At least 33 employees have been confirmed dead after an arson at Kyoto Animation studio, making it the largest human-inflicted death toll of any event in post-war Japan.

Ooh, got my first 5%ile in JI Money. 10/12 but I moneyed almost perfectly (and my just awful spelling of Khachaturian was somehow accepted)
I recognized the music (with the other visual cue), but I just could not bring up the name of the composer. Congrats for that alone.

Very interesting. But stupid.

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

Why does everyone think you have to be hilarious at the audition? The musician part is actually my most realistic non-occupation should I be lucky enough to be asked. I have written numerous sets of lyrics (and have won an award for performing such in an informal competition with seasoned professio...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

If you do get an audition, I would make absolutely sure you don't give them even a whiff of this being the case. I don't think they'd put anybody on the show because they need the money. Just my opinion. While I agree in principle, they DO ask for your occupation and, well... And that’s why your an...

Re: Jeopardy 2019 North American Audition Tour

I'm just hoping for a second in-person audition. I'm more interesting now than in 2011, darn it. And much worse off financially. I know hanging so much hope on this is foolish, but it's starting to look like the ONLY possibility I have.

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

I'm pretty keen on geography and still had no hope on Meadows. I am disappointed that my submission of "L'Anse aux Calrissian" didn't seem good enough for a BWA, though. Am I missing something? I thought BWAs only show up at the end-of-season voting nowadays. Has that changed? I remember seeing the...

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

When I saw "Going Home" and a year in the 80s, my first thought was Bon Jovi. You know, completely ignoring the fact that the song I was thinking of was actually performed by Daughtry, and MUCH later. Wouldn't have mattered anyway, as I couldn't have pulled the final two questions for anythin...

Jane Jacobs was no chance at all.
Ah, yes. That reminds me. I need to also start paying attention to my opponents' locations for questions like that. I'd never heard of her, but it was apparently a slam dunk for the gentleman from New York state who attended SUNY Albany.

Re: LL81: LearnedLeague

But frankly the tie is about as much as one can ask for when one only answers two questions correctly in an A rundle. For an idea of how hard yesterday was compared the first 8 days, a 1(1)-1(1) tie was good enough to move me into first place in A Juniper. Lucky. I had my first loss of the season w...

It's my fault, really. I should have fully expected untagged spoilers from a completely unrelated topic that only happened a few weeks ago. Silly me, thinking trolling is limited to Facebook and Twitter.
