Re: Learned League 84

Ended up in 2nd place after a 2(3)-3(4) loss on the final day. That's more like it. I just feel sorry for the poor sod who had a higher TCA than I did who was actually in the relegation zone at one point (and just one spot above it at the end) and for the one in 5th place who probably would have got...

Re: Learned League 84

I honestly don't know how I'm in 1st place in an A rundle on the last day. I'm not even close to having the most match points or correct answers, and I don't usually get this lucky with defense. I guess I'll take it, though?

Re: Learned League 84

I wonder how many of the 78% (failure rate) got the three names right but not the states? That would be me. I could have sworn I had it, but apparently (based on result) I flipped Clay and Calhoun. Didn't matter much, as I also missed harmonics and my opponent got all 6. Going back a couple days to...

I am a tightwad and only do the basic membership. But I think a “minor league” private rundle would draw interest from those avoiding it now.
I'm not a tightwad, but I AM still floundering in the job market.

Re: 2020 Jeopardy North American Audition Tour

Chicago, 41-42.

My wife also passed this year after narrowly not last year, also picked Chicago with a 42-43 (they can't remember how badly they may have spelled Macron).

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020

I like that so many other people here agree that Wednesday's test was harder. My wife got upset when I said the same thing after they passed Tuesday's, even though they still managed roughly the same score on both nights. My 47 for fun compared to 41-42 for real certainly FELT like one was harder th...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), January 29, 2020

At least I'm in good company with being unable to come up with the seemingly simple "bony pony." Misses on Kondo ("I know this one! Wait, wait... well, I'd better put SOMETHING. *test ends* MARIE KONDO!"), Anne, Aniston, Baltic (geography buff that I am, seriously kicking myself for that), Afghanist...

41 (possibly 42 if I get lucky on the "partial answers will be considered" front). Passed again, completely blanked on Kondo and the word "bony."

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), January 28, 2020

My wife got 42/50. I wish we'd had the capability to both take it at the same time, as I really like the thought of getting 47/50 (would have missed Grande, Rutgers, and Dodgers).

Re: LL83: Learned League

It's a good thing my opponent only got 2 right, because I couldn't have defended any worse if I'd known what their responses were. Played completely against their percentages, but I guess (just like me) there's only one German football club they've ever heard of.

Re: LL83: Learned League

I overthought the French slave revolt question. That should be a Pavlov for Haiti, but between thinking that was TOO obvious, plus the use of "republic" and "Saint-Domingue"...

The Spanish government exhumed Francisco Franco in order to move him to another cemetery. Don’t know if they checked to see if he is still dead.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

There's nothing like a one-day special or minileague in learned league from outside your areas of expertise to make you feel dumb. It is about this far into the off season that I always start to doubt that I know anything. Just voicing my insecurities so that others can make fun of me or not feel a...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

I have yet to win a match in the current ML. At least 3 of those non-wins (1 tie) can be chalked up to shamefully poor defense.

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

How is the current ML and recent 1Ds going for the rest of you? I'm 0 for 2 on the ML thus far. It wouldn't have gotten me a win yesterday (I find using the Golden Arches theory in a theme of pop culture just because it involves McDonald's to be pushing it, but I digress), and as a big fan of comics...

Re: LL82: LearnedLeague

It was awkward phrasing, to be sure. The point I was trying to get across was that I missed questions for which I was assigned low points rather than missing other questions instead.
