Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Paralytic president = not FDR = HUGE negbait. Anyone else join me in that one? Yes, and it was a head slap. FDR had polio. Wilson had a series of strokes, never recovered, but his VP didn't succeed him because his condition wasn't made public. 25th amendment only ratified in 1967, after JFK's assas...

Re: Audition rules clarification

The way I understand it, it's 18 months from the date of your last audition. Not 16 months, 17 months, or whatnot. So if there is one in January, you can't play. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... I always say if you're getting close to the end of your swim, then yes, take the test. You migh...

Re: Monday, September 16, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Thumbs up to Laura for the sole solve. For the record, I got it right, too I don't know what thinking led me to Tolstoy. First, I thought of Dickens, but then remembered the recent Anna Karenina FJ and all the talk afterward about the category EUROPEAN AUTHORS pretty much excluding the Brits. I thi...

Re: Friday, September 13, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Malay is one of those words that doesn't stick with me. I always want to say "Malaysian" - would that count as an outright neg on the show? Keep forgetting the Conrad-Poland connection I would have said "Win" and then spelled out N-G-U-Y-E-N. I can only wonder what mangled pronunciations they would ...

Re: Millionaire 2018-19 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]

Millionaire ratings were never going to approach anything too great, such as J! ratings. Tamron Hall , whatever you think of her, probably in some people's minds has the potential to be the next Oprah in terms of ratings. She was a very liked anchor on the Today Show who left after somebody more pr...

Yay! I got FJ! I've been to D.C. many times but never visited this museum. Is it worth it? I hate crowds No comparisons to James today. Hallelujah! YOGA POSES was too easy! They shoulda thrown pigeon or corpse pose in the mix. Child's pose was way overvalued, and yet somehow a TS. Orphan Black Mirro...

Late to the party.

Instaget FJ: Daphne du Maurier

Wait, what? Oh nooooo!!!

Shirley Jackson!!!

Rebecca was published 8 years earlier than The Lottery and it was a novel, not a short story, but otherwise it fit the clue!

Re: Tuesday, September 10, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So now I'm 2 for 2 on FJ!s. Valerie's accent was indeed pleasant but her calling out the full title of each category and adding a polite, "please" after each one caused the game to drag. Had she been a little quicker, she might have been able to break the lock. And just generally pausing and giggli...

Ataturk! Still kicking myself. One of those cases where the name is familiar but nothing's coming.

I'll take FOLLOW THE LIEDER over PIG LATIN any day of the week.

With "Prejudice" in the title, it had to be Jane Austen

Got quilt on a WECIB but I thought he was looking for 2 different words until I reread the question for the 5th time.

Surprised at the low get for Card Sharks, given this summer’s reboot with Joel McHale

with the generous leeway, that means a lot of correct answers.
Which I don't get. It stands for 'basic'. Period. There should be no leeway (other than obvious misspellings).
I’m with you on this one

I’ve heard of the UBI concept before Yang, but still fairly recently

BIBLICAL ANYTHING is a FJ category where my wager is ZERO no matter what the scores tell me to do
You are 2nd place with $15,000, leader $30,000, third $1,000.
My comment is like a bible story: it doesn’t make sense when you take it literally

The clue was a miss for me as I’m good in morbeedo’s nightmare categories and I’m poor in his wheelhouses. Playing the precall game during the break I had the correct response and the misses by the gentlemen in the mix. I matched Bif as in the FJ! round I am going to choose something. Delayed thank...

The Testaments, Canadian author Margaret Atwood's sequel to The Handmaid's Tale (1986), has been shortlisted for the 2019 Booker Prize.

Also shortlisted is Quichotte, Salman Rushdie's reimagining of Don Quixote. His second novel, Midnight's Children (1981), won the Booker Prize in 1981

I horribly mangled the spelling of it as sadhyagrata, but the Commish was benevolent in accepting it anyway.
Wow. And I thought my spelling was mangled! :)

Satyaghara, for the record, was also accepted!

I also got this one from the opera angle. Seeing Glass’s Akhenaten at the Met in Nov
