Re: TD 378 - K.I.S.S. (Q1 - Q4 revealed)

I always underestimate the number of words that can be formed from the letters in another. Y'all surprised me with this one. No word was used more than twice. 3. Animated. Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film to be nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. But that has nothing to do...

The British Museum is a bit of a misnomer, isn't it? It's really a collection of things "borrowed" by the Brits during their imperial phase.
I guess they're advertising the fact that the building that houses all those things is British.

Looking back at the questions, I'm wondering if there was a typo in one of mine. Are we able to see our submitted answers, and if so, can we correct errors?

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Pacific), March 8, 2018

Hi all, newbie here. Question - if I took the online quiz last night is it permissible for me to take it again tonight? I know for a fact I scored less than 35 last night... in the unlikely event I reached 35 tonight would last night's strikeout nullify tonight's successful attempt? Sorry if this h...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Central), March 7, 2018

Taking this for practice from the video, I would've scored several points higher than I did on the Eastern time zone test, which I took for real. That might be just the result of being more relaxed though.

After a slow start, I got 36 or 37 (depending on whether they accept "Elizabeth Browning").

I can't imagine them not accepting that....
No reason they shouldn't. Several leading biographies refer to her by that name.

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), March 6, 2018

One possible correction: "Our" in #26. Our/hour are homophones. I noticed that too, but "our" (or "ours") was all I could think of so I went with that. By my count, I got 41, unless I typed my answer to the V.P. one in time, in which case 42. Inexplicably, I got the pop music question right but mis...

Re: Online Test Recap & Discussion (Eastern), March 6, 2018

That felt like a tough test. Whew! I agree. I think I passed, but still, it seemed tough. I had a brain freeze or two, and a technical problem on one question. I typed in an answer to the V.P. question, then changed my mind and retyped. When the next question appeared, my answer was already in the ...

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I was looking through my emails and very sadly saw that I got an invitation to audition in L.A. last fall. Obviously I missed the window to respond. I don't know exactly what happened - whether it got caught on my spam filter or whether I just overlooked it. I also don't know whether this mean...

Are you still working on the last one? If so, for 15 down, A Spanish gentleman is a handsome fellow , I have: A + don (Spanish gentleman) + is = Adonis And, having solved that, 23 across is Tasmania = part of Australia settled...upon return = tas ("sat," reversed) ("with" signalling that "tas" is pl...

Re: Cryptic Crosswords

I've got a couple of answers that I'm pretty sure of, but can't explain fully. 14 Across: Kills two fools in a backwards place (12) I have ASSASSINATES = kills, with "two fools" being "ass ass"—oh, I just figured it out. "In a" directly corresponds to the next three letters in the answer, and "set"...

Re: Cryptic Crosswords

Polly's South American cousin holding family coat (8) I believe "Polly" refers to a parrot or relative of a parrot. Cockatoo and parakeet have the correct number of letters. OK. Then it's MAC - kin - AW. I didn't know that word for coat You might have heard it in the lyrics of "The Wells Fargo Wago...

Re: Cryptic Crosswords

I started a new puzzle and need some help :? I think I got this one: One in 3,000 - first-class liberal man, for example M-a-MM + A + L = mammal (man, for ex.) - but how does liberal translate to just L L is the abbreviation for "liberal" in several different contexts - such as Britain's Liberal pa...
