Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I would have been okay with them accepting Jennifer's FJ response. That one little omission cost her a wild card (although she would have made the cut either way if she'd bet $0).

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I scrolled down and looked at FJ first, without even paying attention to the scores, and I saw Eric with a sole miss and a $201 wager and thought, "Too bad; $200 out of a lock game and he misses out on the finals with the right idea and the wrong name." Then I looked at the scores and realized he w...

Re: Fun with GSN's "Best Ever Trivia Show" [Spoilers]

Apparently no one remembers the Mayflower episode of "It's America Charlie Brown". The characters clearly met Samoset first. Sg could know it a different way: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=3391&highlight=samoset That clue was briefly revealed prematurely. I only remembered se...

Re: J! in the Media

Family Feud never uses singleton answers, and it's at their discretion how many top answers make the list the families guess at. It's not common for all the available answers to represent all 100 surveyed.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

I added 5/17/88 (Seniors SF2): http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6396 I got DJ DD1 right because of a British comedy sketch. "The Two Ronnies" did a spot-on imitation (to my understanding) of the game show "Mastermind," except the contestant's area of expertise was in answering the ques...

Re: Reretaken Down

Cool. Some of these must have included the symbol in the clue - I don't see any path to hafnium or ruthenium without just "what is (Hf,Ru). (sidebar - TIL lots more about Ru. I'm surprised it has been off my radar in my career with noble metals, refractory metals, and base metal thermometry. Now I'...

Pffft. Why should I put any faith in a Periodic Table that doesn’t include Seaborgium?

Re: Fun with GSN's "Best Ever Trivia Show" [Spoilers]

It also depends on how you define a decade. 0-9, 1-0, or any 10-year span. (Such matters got ToCer Bob Mesko re-invited after a bad FJ in his first game.) That was from the FJ from the episode of Bob Mesko's return. It was Brian Lamb & Holly Owens who returned later because of this FJ. Bob Mesko's ...

Re: FJs for the 7/22/19 week

It's not quite as helpful an option, but there's always site:jboard.tv seaborgium week as a Google search. Better to search for "week" as "intitle:week"; otherwise you'd get any page on which I posted where anyone also used the word "week." The "not quite as helpful" part is that the results aren't...

Re: FJs for the 7/22/19 week

I just got it in my head to attempt to see how I did on FJ this season. I've been thwarted in the past by the board's software deeming certain words unsearchable. (I'm not trying to find all instances of "week" on the board, phpBB; just the posts I've made with "week" in the title!) But I got the i...

Can't say I've heard "uncle" as an expression for giving up I think it's more common for an assailant to demand it be said than for the assailed to actually use it. Both occur between the bully Scut Farkus and one of Ralphie's friends in A Christmas Story . "Say uncle!" "Uncle!" " Say uncle! " "UNC...

Re: Thursday, July 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, I guess we had to see it one more time before season's end: a dumbass all-in wager from third place loses a game she could have won. And surely you know an all-in bet from the leader is never, ever gonna happen. If you are in 2nd place in this game, what would you wager? Then perhaps re-think...

Re: Thursday, July 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

As much as I like Jason, if I'm being truthful, he's one of the luckiest 5-day champions Jeopardy has had in recent years. This is at least his 3rd game now where he could've easily lost had one (or in this case, both) of his opponents made smarter wagers. Nah. You have to be in the lead to benefit...
