Re: Friday, October 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I would definitely put Lindsey Berns, along with Kaya Chua, Rene Bender, Becca Arm, Julia Kite, Kerri Griffith, Kim Taylor, and E. A. Srere as one of the best female J! non-winners. E.A. Srere was a trivia teammate of mine for several years, both a great trivia player and person. She is very matter...

Re: Monday, October 14, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought Erin said "verbotem," like her mouth just wanted to say "verbatim" with a different middle vowel, then corrected herself after/while Alex ruled her correct. The T/D issue is a non-issue to me, as the English T frequently gets pronounced as a D in between vowels. Think Taylor Swift saying "...

I've heard the fact quoted before that fishing was the most dangerous occupation, so the mention of drowning confirmed my reflexive response.

Re: Friday, October 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To show off, especially in the main seating area of a sports venue "Grandstand" is given, but how about "showboat"? It doesn't quite match the "main seating area" TOM, but there's precedent for a clue where it's correct despite being against the TOM. (I'm guessing it also doesn't quite fit as a rhy...

Re: Wednesday, October 2, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

That's the kind of game I love to see: three evenly matched, good quality players, all with a realistic chance going into the final. The kind of game I hate to see anyone lose. And capped off by three absolutely spot-on correct FJ wagers. Well done, all. Bill was wary to pad his wager by $9, to avo...

 :( :(

I was stuck on Custer, trying to figure out what "broke me on the last hand" meant, and the best I could do was an equestrian interpretation (that I couldn't make sense of, either). But I'm not sad about my first 4/5 week of the season.

Re: Friday, October 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I knew Edward Albee had won several Pulitzers, and none for his most famous play, so this was an instaget for me, ending my stagnation of three straight weeks of 3/5 on FJ. (Next up, 5/5!) Jeopardy is now trolling me. Yesterday, "sage + biblical prophet = Solomon" was wrong. Today, "Solomon = wisdom...

For the second time this week, I'm calling hubris. Geoff's 8000 dd could have dropped him below the champ.he had already gained merely by keeping the champ from finding it.
$800 clue in 4-LETTER PLACES? He didn't bet enough.

East India Company was a WECIB guess. I don't have much else to say about this game, other than it wasn't surprising that Geoff took the tech category from bottom to top.

Don't think I've ever seen Alex hint at a score change like that before.
There were occasions in '80s episodes where Alex would say something like, "We'll get the contestants' dollar figures caught up during the commercial," but I don't know if that counts as a score change.

MOVIE MATH It's the sum of all the numbers that appear in the titles of 21st-century Best Picture winners. What is 2,000,012? (Million Dollar Baby + Slumdog Millionaire + 12 Years A Slave) I went with 1,000,012. I don't think "millionaire" is a number. This is a good clue but I think it's asking fo...

Re: Monday, October 7, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The new champ pulled a Homer. If she had bet correctly, she wouldn't be the new champ. She overwagered and missed. Either you're confused, or you think $13,999 would have lost her the game that $12,600 won for her (which I'd also consider confusion, but not the sort I was alluding to at the beginni...

Re: Monday, October 7, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My first thought was "remembrance," but I figured that wasn't going to be it since we don't have a Remembrance Day. "Memorial" didn't make sense in the phrase "national day of _____," and moments after I dismissed it I came up with "thanksgiving" and decided that worked perfectly. I usually feel bad...
