Re: Tuesday, June 25, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Jagger, Madonna and Kenny Chesney seem awfully tough for a Teen game. I came up with Madonna, but it seems like they could have picked one of her more famous songs to make it a little easier. I would guess most of the teens know who Mick Jagger is, but identifying him from a photo taken in the earl...

Re: Confetti Discussion

I fell victim to that first Party Foul, and the new feature of being able to choose to use an extra life somehow caused me to save it for later when I wanted to use it. Luckily I finally got a second question wrong at my last possible chance, so my extra life failure didn't cost me $300.

I responded carapace instead of exoskeleton. Judges? Looks good to me. The terms aren't quite interchangeable, but certainly tarantulas and lobsters have carapaces that get molted. edit: one might argue that "hard outer bodies" seeks the all-encompassing term, but I think "body" is a squishy enough...

       :( I ruined the perfection on the Beaufort scale. My first thought is always hurricanes with that, but we don't hear about such storms on a scale of 12. "The Middle" was the only unfamiliar thing in that category, but I only got "...

I was thinking of the right area for the Australian group, but didn't remember the name; I just called it "Strait of New Guinea." It was the only one I missed. I gave it a 2 because I thought it was pretty hard, but my opponent (ZollingerJ) had geography as his third-best subject. It was also the on...

I bit on the Ulysses negbait in Dust Jacket for $400 There was no negbait there, just people who see "long James Joyce novel" and jump to conclusions without considering the rest of the clue. Why is it every time I actually do manage to cough up a Pavlov, it's the one time that I actually have to r...

  :(     I really should have gotten View-Master, but I think the clue's phrasing confused me just enough that I needed Alex's pre-reveal remarks to get it. Part of the issue was knowing that stereoscopy had existed well before 1939. I ...

I WAGged "prison" based on the word "gritty." Without that, I would have lost 0(1)-1(1) (we both got ratatouille but I defended it incorrectly).

Re: Tuesday, June 11, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Rabindranath is a very obviously Indian name, The hell it is. Recognizing any nouns associated with India never goes well. Neither does hinging a clue entirely on "it sounds like it should be from X". I thought "Javier Bardem" sounded Portuguese but I was wrong on that count. It's literally 100% su...

I suspect you would also have had the highest Jeopardy! score after three games, but I did not check every three-game champion in the Archive manually so I can't be sure. Larissa Kelly had $108,600 to your potential $121,333, and I would imagine hers is the highest (real) score. Anyway, Roger Craig...

I've heard "Alix" as the French form of "Alice," and I understand it to be pronounced like "Elise." I believe Alix is pronounced in French with a concluding "ks" sound, as in these videos: youtube.com/watch?v=athqxgaC9Pw youtube.com/watch?v=2VDvK0Bgzqk&t=75 (at timecode 1:20) youtube.com/watch?v=ut...

If she mistook Asterix for an asterisk she didn't hit the k very hard. It sounds more like Asteriss to me - not much of a French accent, but an acceptable response... The (lack of) accent is partly why it's hard to be certain what she said, since she uses a short, American i and not a French i, mak...

This 9-letter word from Greek, normally a verb, is a fitting first name of the man who fathered Dennis Rodman and at least 25 other children.

Geez, people. Everybody get down off your hind legs. Nobody needs to do lecturing on either side here. The winner is the first person to back off and speak respectfully without waiting for the other side to do it. Do they also get to go first in DJ!? I don't know. I forgot to write the rules ...

My FJ response and wager as revealed in my sixth game were written by someone else. I might never have noticed it, except whoever did it respelled "eye" as "aye." I emailed Maggie asking about it, and she called me with an explanation, but she had laryngitis (or something else temporarily screwing u...

Are you really ignorant of the paperwork everyone who goes on the show receives, or just being a moron? Sounds like you are (the former, I mean). The paperwork has nothing of ...
