Re: New old games in the J! Archive

Teresa Clavined at the end of the Thursday game, to her slight benefit. Pre-FJ scores were $12,600 to $4,800, and she bet $3,599 instead of the $2,999 that would have kept Charlotte locked out. Edit: however, if Charlotte had bet to keep Richard locked out, she would not have gotten her score above ...

Re: Hosting Question

I don't remember anything hateful from Ken; it doesn't seem like him. I recall a joke or two that were viewed by some as insensitive ( this one in particular which is back in the news). Definitely no love for the political right, which, as compared to the fairly politically neutral (or at least pol...

Re: What ought to happen next?

Official word has come out that J! will be resuming production at the end of this month (starting 11/30) with "a series of guest hosts from the Jeopardy! family – starting with Ken Jennings."

Re: What ought to happen next?

Oh, the other thing that needs to happen: They need to provide a reasonably priced streaming option for cord cutters who don't get TV reception. There are a LOT of people who are saddened by Alex's death but who truthfully haven't seen him in years. They like him, but not enough to take on a ridicu...

      :( :( I haven't seen the stage production or the movie or read the book, but I have some basic idea of the plot, and the cast recording was my first exposure to it, so I checked the "stage production" box. L in calm, but nothing else in the...

Re: Friday, November 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I've said it before, but for me certain so-called silent L's don't get explicitly pronounced, but they do color the preceding vowel, enough so that I wouldn't call them silent. Yoke vs. yolk is one example; I don't hit the L the way I would in "bulk" or "milk," but I pronounce the O farther back in ...

AMERICAN LITERATURE $600: In this 1946 novel, "There wasn't any Democratic Party. There was just Willie" Stark This clue is correct as written as that particular line from the book does not include "Stark". However, I can see why a suggestion correction came in that made me go to the tape to verify...

Re: Friday, November 20, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

SILENT "L" would have Kellie Pickler disagreeing with one of the responses as she always said the "L" in the fish name. I deliberately pronounced the L in all my responses, just for fun. Are there past examples where such a response has been accepted or negged? There was a FIRST LADIES' RHYME TIME ...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Five of six boardies in the JBL rundle got the game show right, which had an 11% overall get rate. SMH. Seeing this thread gives me a little insight how. I went with Let's make a Deal as the prizes seemed pretty decent and a show would only give one prize vs. the multiple players in TPIR. TPIR here...

Re: Tuesday, November 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Y'all rang? It would be funny if someone responded "Who is Java?" to FJ, because they only knew the character's name from Colm Wilkinson's pronunciation of it in his performances of "Who Am I?" I got it and spelled it right, but with some trepidation due to thinking Les Misérables was an 1830s novel...

Re: Fun with NBC's "The Weakest Link"

I wonder when the show will start doing celebrity or themed episodes like in the original version. Another thing I'd like to see added to this version are Champions League or Bad Losers episodes. UK Weakest Link had those in the early days. Bad Losers being people brought back for a second chance t...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

There were a lot of 9(6) scores in my private rundle, 13 out of 24 players. Eight got 5 right, two got 4, and one got 1. Half the 5-righters were paired against a 9(6), two others beat the two 4s, and the other two tied each other. I was one of the five lucky 9(6) players who didn't end up in a tie ...

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6867 ART $800 has a "form" that needs to be "from." Can we get a clip of Barbara being announced? How did Alex do saying it? The Polish pronunciation starts out like "shish kabob" but instead of "abob" you say "yevitch"; stress goes on the "yev." I woul...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Cricket was a guess, although "Twenty20" struck me as vaguely familiar. I just had no clue about sports having "formats," and I wondered if Rugby Union and Rugby League were formats, and proceeded from there to other sports that are popular worldwide but less known in the US, and cricket was as good...

Re: Game Show Network to Air Jeopardy! Marathon Saturday

The 2006 game is rather random. Susannah was one of the Best Ever Trivia Show experts. Also, I think that episode might hold the record (for the 2005-06 season) for highest combined score between all three contestants before Final Jeopardy! (that's my best guess for why that episode was included). ...
