Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

Today I got THE CALL! I’ll be taping July 23 or 24 :D In case this is pertinent: There are 0 players in J! Archive billed as being from Newfoundland. Assuming you're living there when you tape, you'll be the first to actually be introduced as from Newfoundland. And, of course, will be announced as ...

Re: Tuesday, June 19, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

To me, this question was a toss-up between Dewey and Truman. Since it was widely expected that Dewey would win, it seems very possible that Truman could have sent a telegram congratulating Dewey on his "win," only to find out later that the results were in his favor. As it turns out, the election w...

I guessed Alf Landon, but he never served in Congress and had died less than a year earlier.

Note that This Is Kirk! opines that "it really comes down to a question of semantics." So it really is identical to the issue currently under discussion. :D
And OldSchoolChamp touched upon strategy versus tactics, which the SUFF-ICS category also did.

Re: Monday, June 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

(deleted content from up the thread) I don't know why this is a response to my joke about increasing growth by a percentage. Sorry, didn't mean to step on your punchline. It was kind of a topical thread for my rant about misuse of the "dismal science" that is economics. I like to keep my she...

Jumped straight to Rubens when they were looking for David - did the clue specify French artist?
No, but the title included Napoleon, Josephine, and Notre Dame.

Re: Monday, June 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

When politicians talk about "increasing growth by 4% a year", for example, they mean GDP growth. When politicians talk about "increasing growth by 4% a year" and growth is currently 4%, does that mean they want it at 4.16%? The clue: ECONOMICS $400: From 1990 to 2015 this annual figure for the U.S....

This is a bit self-indulgent, but podcasts are part of "the media," so here it is. Local comedian Brent Weinbach, whom I became familiar with because of a video game music podcast, also does a podcast called "Pointed Questions" where he simply interviews people (alongside a "sidekick" who says a th...

Was there a way to "solve" this clue, or was it just something you had to know outright?
I think "lines (or strings)" was supposed to evoke fishing lines. But a simple change to "lines (i.e., strings)" might have cued it a little stronger.

At first, Baldwin was the only name I recognized, and I was scared that there could have been another Baldwin company that made something other than pianos, and the names I didn't recognize were hiding something from me. Re: Tuesday, June 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was distracted by Maine for a bit, and the only Maine-set thing for kids I could think of was Pete's Dragon, which isn't even a novel. But I kept racking my brain, and somehow pulled up the correct response for a farm-based children's classic novel from mid-century.
