Re: Tuesday, May 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Jeff over-wagered. Then I read on here he minored in theology. Good over wager. He didn't over-wager by a lot. Since he's only trailing by $800, he only needs to leave back $1,600 to stay ahead of where Juliet "should" be on a miss. Wagering $14,000 instead of $15,600 doesn't cost him nearly as muc...

No, CCer, a tambourine does not have valves.
Did they get Amis right? When that clue played, I imagined a closed captioning error where they spell it Amos.

Character actor Norman Lloyd, perhaps best known for his role as Dr. Auschlander in "St. Elsewhere," died at age 106. He had previously worked with Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, and Alfred Hitchcock. His last acting credit was in Trainwreck.

Re: Monday, May 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Also the FJ! responses reminded me just a bit of the final game of the UToC, where all three contestants would have 3 different names... and each contestant picked a different 2 of those names, where one of those picks were the correct 2. The UToC's final FJ was a "name both" and only Brad got it. ...

Re: The 2021 Tournament of Champions Is Happening Next Month

I was poking around my LearnedLeague stats, and I discovered I had a tied-up record against one ZuffranieriJ, courtesy of a much smaller LL back in those days. https://i.imgur.com/W0LEtc8.png I thought that was pretty cool. I played against him eight times from LL54 to LL67, and have a 4-2-2 record...

Easy FJ for me. Do the sub zero players always rejoin the panel at the end? It seemed odd. It's been that way for a while. (The exactly zeroes do too.) In season 25, it began that they would play the short-handed FJ, announce the winner, show the sponsors' spots, then return to the credits chat wit...

    :( :( Henry VIII, Philippines. Not only was the bishop of Urgell all I needed, having the rest of the clue without him probably wouldn't have been enough. Baa, baa for me, and I would have deliberately listed the words instead of quoting th...

People, please! Toulouse was not that tough - I'm sorry, but not when spotted France + south and + OU 2x. I thought she'd get it as a crossword player, but she looked flummoxed

Re: Friday, May 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I must say, writing any clue, FJ or not, that contains the words "may have been" is not exactly factually sound. James I may have been in Bora Bora for all we know. I'd expect whoever did the research for the clue to know, and not include this supposition if they didn't know. Did it affect the hist...

Re: Friday, May 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The clue confused me. "9th in line" made me try to think of an English monarch who was ninth in line for the Scottish throne, and since post-Elizabethan monarchs included Scotland in their kingdom, I went pre-Elizabethan with Henry VIII (though I didn't like having "VIII" in my response when "the 8t...

For anyone who doesn't know: Andorra is a co-principality, and it's not an inherited position; the co-princes are the president of France and the bishop of Urgell.

Re: Rename the "lock-tie"?

If it were to be renamed, I'd suggest "lock/crush." It's the cusp between lock territory and crush territory. Like a lock, first can wager such that second cannot overtake first in FJ. Like a crush, first can wager to exceed second's maximum score without risking a TS loss. Or make it like the other...

I think Mark's question was whether the now-correct transcription required an erratum... No, Mark's message was before he realized about the mistranscription. His message included his own screenshot of the clue. https://jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?p=354777#p354777 Yes, before he realized his error in a...

For the transvaal question, I just said Mining and not diamond mining. Judges?
You were correct too, and I don't think there's any need for a BMS. Jo'burg's mining industry is primarily gold, though it was correct to accept diamonds.

Just in the past few days I was thinking about that title and wondering exactly how there would be an archipelago in the USSR's mainland, which makes this FJ a happy coincidence for me. What's the record for consecutive solo gets on FJ for a contestant? I wouldn't be surprised if James or Ken has it...

LOL, just LOL at Robert Frost making that Overland journey in 1859. He was still alive at John F Kennedy's inauguration.
I'm assuming he was thinking of "The Road Not Taken," but yeah, Frost was born in 1874.
My dad thought he was thinking of "...miles to go before I sleep."
