Re: Tuesday, May 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Just in the past few days I was thinking about that title and wondering exactly how there would be an archipelago in the USSR's mainland, which makes this FJ a happy coincidence for me. What's the record for consecutive solo gets on FJ for a contestant? I wouldn't be surprised if James or Ken has it...

LOL, just LOL at Robert Frost making that Overland journey in 1859. He was still alive at John F Kennedy's inauguration.
I'm assuming he was thinking of "The Road Not Taken," but yeah, Frost was born in 1874.
My dad thought he was thinking of "...miles to go before I sleep."

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

André did his best to stay competitive, but he couldn't neutralize Scott and make up a $15,000 deficit at the same time. In the end, his pre-FJ $12,800 is the highest I know of for a player in second place in pre-doubled times. (Next highest is Joe Carroll's $12,400 in Michael Daunt's second game . ...

Re: Friday, April 30, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Inspired by discovering a minor typo in Thursday's game, I remembered when J! misspelled cartoonist Lincoln Peirce's last name (to make it doubly presidential), looked up the game (it was during a Kids Week), and found it had another Baum-related FJ (he's in the clue, so I'm not spoiling anything by...

Re: Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions alternates - who were they

going to see if I can find Rob Lai's 3-day total, and then report back if I find something. I was just reviewing season 2 in J! Archive, and I don't think Rob won three games. His first game is a Tuesday (September 24, 1985); had he been a three-time champion, his last game would have been Friday t...

Re: Learned League 88 - Feb/Mar '21

I made the championship of the General Knowledge Puzzle League ML in a nail-biter: in MD11 I was in #2 against #3, who would leapfrog me into second place if he won; I initially had two right answers and one Kosman Koin, then I just had a flash of inspiration to pull an answer for #6, which prevente...

Rare J! typo sighting: I just rewatched this tonight and saw that the Carrie clue said "extra-excitiing." It's already archived like that, but there's no comment about it.

Does anyone know offhand it Emily's 9K DD is the largest DD bet of the season? Or at least the guest hosts? I can't remember ANY other bets this large since James H ended his run. Thankfully, I've forgotten all his birthday/tribute numbers  At the bottom of the season pages on J! Archive, ther...

Johnny mispronounced Leah's job title both yesterday and today. She's a project manager, and he called her a product manager.
First reply after this is nearly 10 hours later. Is this the post that broke J!Board last night?

Re: Tuesday, April 27, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

So apparently a "banned" wager was edited in an earlier episode. Anyone know which one? Which wager, or which episode? The wager wasn't banned yet at the time, but someone once bet $1,488 on FJ, a future contestant watching from the audience alerted TPTB that it was a white supremacist thing, and t...

He may have been signaling that he had won three games.
He probably wanted to create the impression he was doing that, but social media stuff seems to indicate there was more to it.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive

UPDATE: Found an article that mentions the number $47,200 but it says that he won that in a single day, which we all know isn't true. They very possibly could have mistaken that with his 4-day total, but I don't know if this is actual proof. The "single day" thing isn't that far out when you consid...

Let's quote Mark's post that had the video: Here are the introductions from a game I am guessing is late 1985 or early 1986. Any help with the last names would be great. Unfortunately, I only have the first three clues of the game. Check out the reflection on the TV screen to see me. finishemzoe sha...

Re: Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions alternates - who were they

This is a bit of a tangent: that article says he won the last three games of 1985 and lost the January 1 game. It's been said the infamous clip of the player who has failed to phrase her FJ response in the form of a question and loses as a result was from January 1, 1986. There are no close-ups of t...

Re: Reretaken Down

I was looking through some of my old posts and their contexts, and found this gem: I am 99.9% certain that any clue that comes up on Jeopardy about the Golden State Killer will not mention Michelle McNamara's book. This was in the 2018 current events thread in April of that year; the one clue J! has...

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I would suggest betting $7,598 or slightly less rather than $7,599. A common miswager by second in "lock-tie" and crush games is to cover third by a dollar. Thus staying above a third place double-up by two or more dollars would noticeably reduce the extra risk, but cost you very little. I actually...
