I've NHO moccasins either.
They're a soft leather shoe originally worn by Native Americans.

Re: Tuesday, December 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Looked forward to the Roald Dahl category. My 2nd grade teacher read most of his books to us (although strangely not "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"). Did she read Danny, the Champion of the World ? That was my precall for the category, even though I knew it was too obscure. I doubt that even a...

Re: Tuesday, December 18, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Ouch, Conor! That's going to sting for years to come. His expression at the end of DJ suggests he has already begun to understand what he just did to himself. But that didn't stop him from overwagering on FJ making it impossible for him to win on a triple stumper. That would've been an even rougher ...

Re: Monday, December 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Guess this is more of a blind spot for me than I realized. I've heard of the 8-legged horse, but never its creation story. I didn't recall the creation story either. I'm with those who got it just because the story had that Loki trickster god feel to it. That might be an interesting poll question i...

FJ: My entire knowledge of Norse mythology comes from Der Ring des Nibelungen, so I WAGed "Grane" because it was better than saying nothing at all.
This FJ did make me wonder if they would have accepted "Loge" for "Loki".

I'll be checking the box that says I not only got this FJ, I could've named the horse.

Congrats to Jackie for losing one true DD and not flinching when the next opportunity came. So many contestants miss the opportunity to catch up because they're afraid of losing all their money twice.

     :( :( I'm with the 50% of boardies who checked the box of glory. I wonder what the highest perecentage is for that box in a regular game week. Only one poor boardie, who chose to remain anonymous, checked the box of shame. It wasn't the usu...

Bible - C'mon now, music related book? Do we not know "The Old Hundreth" (based on Psalms 100, sung by the congregation at Huck Finn and Jim's funeral with no corpus delicti :)) (waiting for math teacher to inform the plural spelling, lol) Corpora delicti. Not that I'm a math teacher or anything. I...

I don't know why I know ANYTHING about Kipling. Courtesy of my eighth-grade English teacher: "Do you like Kipling?" "I don't know. I don't think I've ever kippled." The greeting card that made that famous used to be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most sold--6 million copies, I think. ...

My other misses were Anointment,
I forgot about that one! I said "anointing" which I assume would be acceptable since it's equally a synonym for "inunction". "Anointment" sounds like a made up word to me, but it's in the dictionary.

I may need to redact my compliment for her legal prowess - wasn't "corpus delecti" a TS? I seem to have my pedantic hat on today--it's "delicti" (though the closed caption also said "delecti". It sure did. I would've spelled it that way without bothering to look it up had I been a closed captioner....

Re: Tuesday, December 11, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

To me, "Psalms" just seems Greek. Other languages don't begin words with a Ps- sound--at least not the languages I'm familiar with. Hebrew doesn't. But Greek has a letter of their alphabet devoted to that sound-- psi (ψ). Lots of Greek words begin that way, as do many English words derived from the ...

Well, congrats to Faris but I do hope he'll get in the rhythm of the game for the next show. He kept pausing before calling for the next clue... by its full name. I was hoping we'd see that last Shakespeare opera clue so I could run the category, and with a little more zippiness in clue-calling, I t...

I"m kinda with TPH on the dwarfs clue. If you've never seen the clock, is there any reason to pick one dwarf over any other? None that I'm aware of. Seems to me if you haven't seen the clock, it's just a random 1-in-7 guess. No logical reason it should be one and not any other. One is decidedly mor...

So what made it so easy for those who got it right? That the government had to pay out means it wasn't contracted work; they're probably paying off copyright infringement. I'm usually excited to learn new things but tonight I learned the correct pronunciation of "Quixotic" and continued ignorance would be preferred. I was [very mildly] surprised that Alex didn't take the pedantism opportunity to say, "We were looking for 'key-HOTE-tic" but we'll accept that." Had an ...
