How are there 44 ingredients in a McRib? Are they counting all the ingredients in the sauce separately? Individual sesame seeds. There's obviously no way the preppers are putting together 44 different things (or even 13) when you order a McRib.

I could've checked the penultimate box, but you had to say "in front of" rather than "to".

I don't know that it's an obsession. And it's not just over wagering way too much. We also fret when contestants wager way too little.

Re: Thursday, May 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

In the clue about the thyroid and adrenal glands, the target answer was "endocrine." I thought I heard Steve's answer as "endocrind" instead of "endocrine," and was fully expecting a reversal. Did I mishear, or did he actually put a "d" sound at the end of the word? I heard it that way too, but I t...

Re: Thursday, May 17, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

If the clue had specified adding the letter to the FRONT of the word, I might have gotten this FJ. As it is, my joke responses were sciaptica, scopliosis, and lumpbago. This is an especially tough miss for Claire since she likely knows that plumbum is Latin for lead. (Hence its symbol pb on the peri...

Re: 2018 Current Events Study Guide

Hijacker D. B. Cooper has been identified (once again). This time it turns out he was former military paratrooper and intelligence operative Walter R. Reca of Michigan. You'll never have to know the name, of course, but there could be a clue about a former military paratrooper being identified as th...

My first association of Menelaus is from O Brother Where Art Thou? : Gov. Menelaus "Pass the biscuits" "Pappy" O'Daniel. But that was enough (with Ulysses) to get me to the Trojan War and then the Trojan Horse. One of my favorite lines from the Coen Brothers (and there are many): https://youtu.be/c...

No one is surprised that they didn't get basking SHARK?!?! Never heard of a basking shark, so no, not surprised. Me neither too. My off the cuff guess was crocodile. I was focused on the ability to open its mouth a yard wide. But looking back at the clue, see they also specified a 50 foot length fo...

Re: Tuesday, May 15, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

The FJ wagers, and Rachel's DD wager, speak for themselves. Oy vey. If that were true, we wouldn't see this pattern so often that it's become virtually expected. Not only do the wagers not speak for themselves, people's eyes glaze over if you ask them to listen and think about the math for 30 secon...

Re: Tuesday, May 15, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Sigh. Once again, the same player who underwagers on DDs overwagers on FJ. In this case it was the former that cost her. Oh well. Claire is a good and worthy champ. Would've been fun to see Rachel do some acrobatics. Mrs. Penguin is still humming the Lemmings theme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a...

That said, never heard of "netiquette"
There are a few people on this board who would elicit a derisive snicker from me after such a statement. But you're not one of them.

Ouch. Erika. Dang. Should've been a BMS on Long. Huey's the most famous, but it's not like he's the only one. Most notably, there's also Huey's brother Earl--45th governor of LA (Huey was 40th) and famous for his dalliance with New Orleans stripper Blaze Starr. Ran Super Conductors, but that's a fie...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

I got Bacchus because he is the Roman god of wine and figured he wouldn't be in the Bible. It's hardly unlikely. The Greek gods Zeus, Hermes, and Artemis all get a shout out. Yes, but I think it would still be tricky to consider him a Blblical character even if he were mentioned in passing. I don't...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

So I looked back at this game 's "Not in the Bible" category, and I'm stunned at how tough it was. Bernice, Bacchus, Bartimaeus All three sound equally Biblical to me. Bernice is only passingly mentioned in Acts, and Bartimaeus is so obscure he doesn't even have a Wikipedia article. I went with "Be...

And I know that, but just like "Which of Jupiter/Saturn/Uranus/Neptune is biggest", it blatantly refuses to stick in my head no matter how hard I force it. About Yellowstone and Yosemite - one way to remember which is which is by visiting them. Or just pick one - Yellowstone is closer to you. You'r...

Agreed. My poll prediction is 90%.
And with 121 having taken the poll, 109 indicate they got it right, for... 90%. I think that means you win double or something.

Re: Monday, May 7, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Another Chicago here, with zero confidence. I thought of Stagecoach, but didn't know of a city by the name. I think Stagecoach even caused Wells Fargo to flit across my brain, but I didn't chase it down. Wells Fargo isn't the name of a city. I don't think of it as primarily a transportation company ...
